Error upon starting Create A World
« on: May 30, 2010, 06:20:54 PM »
Whenever I start Create A World, I get the error code:

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted.

I am a total failure at computers on Windows, as I normally play on Mac. How do I fix this problem? I have .net framework 3.5 installed, and pretty much nothing else (recently reinstalled windows).

Any advice? I'd be greatly appreciative.

I don't have Create A World installed, but my suggestion would be to uninstall it and reinstall.

Already tried. I think it is the computer, not the program.

In what kind of file is the Create a World Tool? Electronic Arts?

It would standardly be put right beside The Sims 3 file, so indeed in the Electronic Arts folder. But because you asked that: do you mean the problem could be solved by installing it in another folder?

No, but if the error state he is trying to write or read protected memory, it could be the file. (Because of read-only files) But the EA file is just a normal file. Is anything in the create a world pack a read-only or protected file?

OK, I just installed the CAW I went to play, and it gave me an error. I then went to play my regular  Sims 3 WA and it said I had updates. I ran them , and now it wont open at all. It gives me the CAW start page when you first click then it goes blank... I have no clue what going on.

Yeah, I just checked the official forum regarding recent patch issues, sounds like a LOT of people are having this same problem with CAW.  Hopefully they'll make a fix soon for this "fix".

And it's about time they fixed it! When my computer comes back from the store I will install this immediately.
Thank you very much Swede! I have searched for this a very long time but didn't find anything.

O dear, Illuminator is bashing EA. :P kidding.
But they will probably sent a mail from the Sims 3 site these days anyway to anounce this. If it isn't today, it will be tomorrow.

I'm sure they do notice.  They may not communicate to us about everything they are working on, but they have proven to me over the past year that they are very much aware of the problems with the game.  If they weren't, we wouldn't have any patches at all.  It's just that, for some reason, they don't feel the need to communicate their awareness to use.  At any rate, the topic of this thread is something they fixed with the most recent patch.  I haven't heard if it's working properly, though.

Anyone tried the CAW patch yet? Same thing happened to me. It was weird though because after having installed it I was able to use for quite some time, then got kind of bored of it and when I wanted to use it again, it was corrupted. I uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times, both failed. Then I got bored and uninstalled it. I might try it someday... if I ever get to run the base game and EP again! Just wanted to know if it actually worked for anyone.

True... the problem is that they can be annoyingly slow to solve all the issues we've had since TS3 came out.
