Dumpster Diving and Makeshift Furniture Hunting
« on: March 07, 2013, 12:33:13 PM »
I wonder what can be found in the dumpster.

For the most part I've found furniture from the dumpster; specifically end tables and chairs. I also found a lot of collectibles there. I wonder what other furniture types we can find in the dumpster.
In conjunction to that, it seemed like Makeshift Furniture hunting yielded similar results, however I have also found a stereo and most recently, a washing machine.

What else has been uncovered when searching for random furniture?

I've found all sorts of things dumpster diving for example:

Furniture: armchairs, sofas, dining chairs, end tables, coffee tables, bookshelves, dressers, all low to mid quality.

Electricals: cheapest tv, microwave, stereo, cheap computer, expensive tumble dryer, washing machine and even a fortune cookie machine.

Quite a lot of small decorative items, many insects and rocks including some tiberium and those from WA locations, insects don't count for collections at all but rocks and metals will if you take them out of family iventory put them on the ground and collect them again. Oh and the tiberium grew unlike the consignment store one, I guess because you can collect it normally if placed on the floor.

In all when starting out or if you need some cash it's not a bad way to spend an afternoon, you just get a bit nauseous and smelly.

Here is the list of items you can find - they are named in code, so it may be difficult to work out exactly what they are without referring to the code, but I didn't feel like looking them all up individually.

So, stupid query, but I have to ask:

Is Dumpster Diving available in all EA worlds now, or just the University and Sunset Valley (based on patch notes).

I wasn't able to get that option at the junkyard dumpsters in Barnacle Bay, but I don't know if it's because it's not available at all, or just because the diver wasn't on the actual lot at the time (sadly, the file crashed, and I decided to go to bed rather than wait through another load).

Considering that I've seen sims autonomously dumpster dive in both Starlight Shores and Twinbrook, it's available in all worlds. I have better luck with the dumpsters next to the grocery store than those in the junkyard.

Lots added from the bin such as the Junkyard seem to be buggy, the dumpsters aren't shut properly so you can't dive in them, might be why it wasn't working for you.

You can replace them or just look for one already in town that is shut tight if replacing isn't an option (challenge or dynasty game for example)

My dynasty junkyard was placed pre patch so was fine but ever since in every game I've started the lids have been open slightly, there's usually a working dumpster at some other community lot though.

Grand, thank you!

Edit: Just to add, now that I'm finally back in the file, I found a successful dumpster to dive, in Barnacle Bay. It's located behind the hospital.
