Paused Update?

When I started my game today... I was notified that it had a required update. I went to origin and downloaded update. It says 100% but remains paused. I am unable to open my Sims4 now... Can someone help me?

Hi Belle,

If you're having problems updating, it's been suggested to exit the game, and close out of Origin. Restart the computer, and try updating again.

It may help to clear all cache files. (Read below for details) -- If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the Origin client.

*** It will not update if the game is running in the background.


Delete Cache Files

It's safe to delete the localthumbcache.package file

- In the cache folder (Do NOT delete the folder)
cache –> *.cache (all files ending in cache)

- In the cachestr folder (Do NOT delete the folder)
cachestr –> All content can be deleted

Delete Origin Cache Files

Thank you for the helpful suggestion... I was able to complete the download after simple restarting my PC... Hard to believe it was something so easy... <Thunk to the head> LOL

I hope it's ok to post on this topic, I realise it's been a while but I am having the same issue.

I can't play the sims as there is an update, however when it gets to 100% and is finalising it pauses and then says failure to download. I've tried it numerous times (it is also doing it to another game I have on Origin although I'm not bothered about that).

In addition I've gone to repair game (which in itself took forever) and it does the same thing. Pauses then fails to download it.

I've deleted all cache files including origin's.

I was playing the game last night and it crashed. I didn't think much of it at the time as I'd been playing for a while and just assumed it was one of those things, but now I'm wondering if somehow it's related.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. I'd rather not have to re-download the games again. Takes an age.

Edited to add: I have also used CCleaner and have no mods.

Hi Tigerskin,

Thank you for saying what you've already tried. Have you tried by any chance:

Exiting  the game and log out of Origin. -- *If exiting Origin isn't working, open Task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) search for a file called ts4.exe. Click on it and select end process.

Restart computer, and try updating again.

Hi @MrsFlynn, thanks for your response. Unfortunately I also exited out of Origin and restarted (quite a few times) to no avail.

I've had to bite the bullet and uninstall the game. I'm in the process of re-downloading the game currently - hoping I won't come across the same problem on when it eventually downloads.

Just another quick question, can I ask also if others have had to reinstall the game again: how long it takes? This is the second time I've had to re-download the game in two weeks and without exaggerating it takes around 10 hours to download!  That seems incredibly excessive to me. I resorted to downloading it overnight (although the computer gets to the point where it eventually goes to sleep and pauses the update). I do have all game packs including the digital content - however it hasn't even downloaded the base game yet....

I've tried to do some searching on the problem and found a few things that may be helpful.

What has been suggested is to check if there are programs that are conflicting with Origin, and check to see if Origin may be being blocked by your firewall. The last resort suggested was to uninstall/reinstall Origin.

Also, If you have a slow(ish) internet connection or just want to backup the install files.

Note: You will need to have Game Installers checked first before you start downloading the game to be able to back up the install files.

Origin > Application Settings
Click the Advanced tab, and checkmark Keep game installers after game has been installed.

From what I remember, it took us a long time to download the game as well. Though I can't remember time wise how long it took.

I will bookmark this page in case in case I need it in the future and I'll read through it as well in case there is something that helps with Origin.

Overall the download took around 16 hours....Luckily all seems to be working ok now though.

I sincerely appreciate your help.
