Meditative Trance Sleep - Does it work?
« on: December 06, 2009, 09:55:57 AM »
What exactly is that reward supposed to do?

I haven't noticed any difference in my Sims sleep time. I haven't timed it but if I need to do that to be able to tell the difference it doesn't really seem worth the price. Is there some trick I'm missing?

I was kind of wondering the same thing, PJ. I picked up this new reward in the Happiest Centenarian on the Block challenge, just so my Sim could be awake more hours to fulfill more wishes. I didn't really notice a huge difference in sleep times.

There is a big difference, I haven't timed the normal sleep time, but it seems they need at least 8 hours to get well rested even on the best bed.  With meditative trance sleep and the best bed, it's 4 1/2 hours from when they go to sleep to wake up to being fully rested.  They can even fill up quite a bit of the energy bar if you put them to bed for an hour and a half or two before work.

It's always the first reward I get for my Sims when I am trying to have them grind skills, after steel bladder.

I just got it for the first time, too, and I see a good bit of difference.  My Sim only has to sleep about 5 hours to be fully rested.

I haven't noticed a difference either-  Do you think it is a patch issue?  I still haven't downloaded the patch....

I have the latest patch. I think it's something like the fridge, there's something broken about this.

The first time I got this reward I didn't see any difference at all and I had decided to give it one last chance and then give up on it. When I played yesterday there just wasn't any noticeable difference either and I thought, Oh well, waste of points. But today when I started up my game again I was so surprised at how early my Sim woke up the first time she slept. She only sleeps 4˝ hours now. ???

I've looked at other forums and it's the same thing, some people see a difference, some don't. Another thing that needs to be fixed... :P

Sheeesh. Here we go again. C'mon EA!  ::)

At least they didn't mix up the two bugs where you'd put food into the fridge and the fridge would go into immediate Meditative Trance Sleep and wake up Well Rested. But, your Sim would wake up nauseous because food had spoiled in him after 4 1/2 hours.

Knowing Metro though, I suspect that he has eaten ambrosia in the past week and just doesn't care about the -15 penalty because he has the +75 from his nummy meal he ate last Thursday before Survivor came on.  ::)

More like a bowl of Cheez-its while watching UFC fights.  ;D

I'm working on the Lifetime Rewards introduced with World Adventures and thought I'd whip out the testing cheats to determine this one's bonus. It's exactly 20% as you'll see below. Note these values are from 0 energy to full:

Pre-upgrade w/ best bed: 420 minutes (7 hours)
Pre-upgrade w/ worst bed:560 minutes (9.3 hours)

Post-upgrade w/best bed: 330 minutes (5.5 hours)
Post-upgrade w/ worst bed: 450 minutes (7.5 hours)

Hours converted to minutes for ease of math.

So, you get exactly 20% (my numbers are off a little of course). Your Sim could live with a cheaper bed and get energy full faster. But, if you can afford to spend 30,000 happiness points on this one you probably already own a great bed. Still, it's totally worth it -- 20% more time for your Sims to get things done.

Good info, Carl. Meditative Trace Sleep isn't nearly as attractive a reward for a career Sim. At least in my opinion. But, for a full-time painter, writer, gardener, or fisherman — wow...jackpot. All those extra hours are just golden.
