Beginners Guide to Not Losing Sim Families

This is the Perfect Guide for Beginners who find themselves "losing" their Families when Saving in a Multi-Family Game.

Please Note: If Save is continually used, the game progress gained or family played may be lost. This is why it's important to use Save As, give the save a new name, save often and back the files up in case they maybe needed later.

Playing Multiple Families In One Game and Saving is Confusing You? Learn How To use "Save and "Save As" safely.

* Please make a backup of your Saves folder first. This way nothing gets deleted and all is safe. The backup can be safely deleted at a later time.

1. Click the Load Game button on the Main Menu.

2. Choose a saved game. - For this example, the family shown in the thumbnail highlighted below is thought of as family #1.

3. Click Manage Households (up in the right corner of the map screen) to view what families are in-game and what town they are in.

4. Depending on where family #2 is, check around town, or go to Manage Worlds (up in the left corner) to find your 2nd family.

5. Find, select and click the Play button to make family #2 the active family.

6. To save your game at this point, select Save As from the Options menu and type in a new name. Doing this a) saves your game and b) makes the newly currently played household the one you will see in the thumbnail in the saved games panel.  As shown below:

Note: if you select Save, it will look like it overwrites (family #1) as the last save. As shown in the photo below:

It will have the current active family's photo and name as last played household. This is fine to do but it is also very useful to learn how to use 'save-as'. So, select 'save-as' and name your game again using the same name.

This allows you to manually save over your current game, which is saving all the progress you have made and also allows you to keep your current game.

And there you have it! The not-so-secret-secret on how to understand saving a multi-family game.
