Sims 4 - Missing Save Games

I'm Missing My Saved Games?!

The good news is, the saves aren't really gone. They are just missing for the moment as they have been moved or the files may need to be renamed so the game can see them. The tips below should help find the missing save files.

1. The save files may need to be renamed in order for the game to recognize them.

Go Back to Previous Save or Rename a Saved Game:

2. Or they may have been moved or saved to another drive or a cloud service like OneDrive, or iCloud Drive.

-- The tip below is mostly for Windows, but maybe helpful to Mac users.

If you do not see any of your user files in this folder path - C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

You may need to search your computer for the Sims 4 folder, as it may have been moved to a different location on your computer or saved to OneDrive or iCloud. If using Windows 8 or 10, this maybe turned on and sync'd automatically - by default. (**If logged in with a Microsoft Account)

To search your computer, click the Start button. In the Search bar type in the Sims 4. If you find the folder or files any where other than \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4. You will want to move or copy them back to that location so the game can recognize the files within that folder.

Please note if Save is continually used, the game progress gained or family played maybe lost. This is why it's important to use Save As, give the save a new name, save often and back the files up in case they maybe needed later.

** After it saves the 5 original backup files, it starts over making new backup files and will overwrite the old backups as you continue saving using Save.

Note on OneDrive / iCloud:

Having the game sync with OneDrive or iCloud can cause issues such as the game won't be able to see the saved games from the cloud services, as any saves need to be in the Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves to be recognized by the game.

Regardless if you use the cloud services, it's best to make sure Sims 4 is not enabled or is excluded from those services to avoid any problems. Again, If the Sims 4 user data is being written to the cloud or an alternate location the game will not be able to find it.

Any files saved to the cloud services should be able to be easily moved back to the Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4.

The user files should still be in their default location (Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4) and save there, once you turn off syncing with OneDrive or iCloud. It will no longer save a copy to either cloud services.

Check OneDrive's settings to make sure it's set to keep files on local drive. (Not the cloud as that may be part of the problem.)

** Note: We cannot be support for OneDrive or iCloud as we do not use them.
