I'll be doing a vanilla, Sims-driven legacy challenge following Pinstar's rules.

SUCCESSION LAWS
Gender: Matriarchy — Only girls are eligible to be named heir unless there are no female children, at which point boys become eligible for that generation.

Heir: Democracy — Chosen by reader vote. Or Merit if there are no votes.
Species: Tolerant — The species of the child has no impact on their eligibility for heir status.

SCORE (Updated after each new chapter)

(Wordpress)
Meet the soon-to-be-founder of the Golden Legacy, Jin Ying Xiong.

Ying Xiong – Ying, for short – grew up with close to nothing as an orphan in Shang Simla, spent every waking hour working every imaginable part time job that would hire her to save up as much as she could. And when she turned 18, she packed up and bought her plane ticket to Brindleton Bay as well as a nice big empty plot of land.

Having never had a family, Ying longed to establish one of her own. She wanted to live the Sim Dream, and she was going to make it happen.

Ying, having lived a harsh life, is a CREATIVE and resourceful indivdual. She is also AMBITIOUS and a PERFECTIONIST, wanting nothing less than to succeed in a life she started off with the wrong foot.

Her starting aspiration is SERIAL ROMANTIC, and although it might seem like an unchracteristic aspiration for such an goal driven woman as Ying, it really isn’t.

Ying knows how tough life can be, and she doesn’t want her future offspring to have to suffer any hardships like she did. She refuses to settle for anything less than perfect, and that includes her future spouse. It is her plan to filter through potential spouses till she finds the perfect one that will benefit her future generations the most. Her bloodline has to be pure and strong, for they are to grow into a lasting, prosperous legacy. The Golden Legacy.

And she will do whatever it takes to ensure it, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness.

ABOUT THE NAME

Ying’s full name is Jin Ying Xiong; Written 金英雄 (Jīn Yīng Xióng) in chinese. Jin is the family name / her surname, while Ying Xiong is her first name.

Fun fact! 金(Jīn) means Gold. Thus the ‘Golden Legacy’.

And to match the straight forwardness of her surname, Ying’s first name 英雄(Yīng Xióng) means: Heroine, Protagonist, Main Character.

I originally intended to name her 敏(Mǐn), meaning clever and smart (the shrewd kind), which I thought fit her pretty well. But then changed my mind at the last minute because naming the main character of the story literally was my idea of a super lame inside-ish joke haha ~

1.1 — New Beginnings

1.1 — New Beginnings

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

So… today is Ying’s first day in Brindleton Bay. She’s looking a little serious in this shot.

Why don’t you at least give our readers a smile?
Ying: “You wouldn’t be smiling if you were $200 in debt now would you Watcher?”
Oh yeah. I almost forgot about that. But you wanted this no? You insisted on Brindleton Bay because Oasis Springs was too hot and Willow Creak was… “blegh” in your own words.
Ying: “Just because I wanted it doesn’t mean I’m immune to the occasional pangs of buyer’s regret! $200 is a lot of money when you have nothing okay!”

It wasn’t in the original plan to begin with an Extreme Start; It just sort of happened. I hadn’t gotten to play Brindleton Bay as of yet and I wanted to have a go at the town. Not to mention the lovely scenery! So bright and open and spacious! It’s not as dreary as Windenburg and the 64 × 64 lot is a bonus.

But that now means Ying is going to have to be really counting pennies as she tries to earn that $200 to buy the Knight of the Octagon Table while making end meets at the same time.

Ying: “It’s no biggie. I’m great at being stingy and living rough. Also have all the know-hows on making moolah! No worries Watcher.”
That’s very sweet of you Ying, to try and reassure me. I’m sure we’ll figure things out together!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

We wanted to jump right into money making because Ying was really strapped for cash and the sooner we got her out of debt, the better. But there was the Welcome Wagon and we figured that it can’t hurt to spend some time to get to know the neighbours right?

The Delgato(s) came over for the Welcome Wagon, but only Supriya Delgato actually appeared although the notification text showed her hubby, Justin doing the greetings. Justin even appeared on Ying’s relationship tab despite her never interacting with him.

Ying: “Weird… I guess. We. Got acquainted through text messaging? Is that a thing in Sims? I didn’t know that. Also, if you think about it, isn’t that really creepy? How did Justin get my number? I just moved here!”
Is this you breaking the 4th wall? Are you breaking the 4th wall? You are aren’t you. Stop that. You’re going to ruin our reader’s immersion!
Ying: “I’ve been communicating with you since the beginning Watcher. I think the 4th wall has long been broken.”

No one else other than the Delgatos showed up. And the Welcome Wagon didn’t last very long before another notification pops up saying that they’ve got to go. So that’s that.

That just means it’s time for Ying to go make some money. Here she is taking a short jog to the beach just a stones throw away from the property. Isn’t the view gorgeous? Brindleton Bay is just so pretty scenery wise.

The neighbourhood is really pretty. There’s the beach that spans a fair distance, a small BBQ area ( FOOD! ) with benches and a public toilet and lots fishing areas. Perfect for the hobo life. And best of all, it doesn’t need to be loaded! It’s very convenient.

( I really miss the open world of TS3 ;; )

In any case, Ying throws out a line and starts fishing. And she actually catches Tuna for her first catch that goes for a tasty $88!

How did you do that?!
Ying: “有志者,事竟成。Heh, heh. When there’s a will, there’s a way. But anyways, that’s 44% of my $200 debt. I think I’ll be able to pay it off in no time!!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ying must be a really lucky sim. Or maybe she’s just really good at fishing, because she catches a mid-tier fish that sells for around $20, and then ANOTHER tuna. I don’t know how she does it.

But after that her catches are lacklustre in comparison and eventually she decides to try her luck treasure hunting instead since the fish are no longer biting.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A few rocks later, Ying manages to gather up a couple of fossils and common metals that she sells off to clear up her $200 debt entirely, with a decent amount of extra simoleons to spare.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Pressing debt dealt with, Ying spends some time socialising with some beach goers. One particular man catches her eye – Marcus Flex. And he certainly is flexing. He’s in the Partihaus and Powerhouse clubs, so that means two things. One, he’s cool. Two, he’s fit.

Ying: “He might make a good spouse, don’t you think Watcher?”
Well, you certainly do seem taken by him.
Ying: “Maybe. He’s certainly got anattractive physique. Nice and strong. I reckon he’d be able to produce healthy offspring. But that’s only if he’s not jacked up. Steorids can’t be good for the babies. I’ll need to get to know him better first…”
Aren’t you approaching this whole romance thing a little too… I don’t know? Objectively? Calculatingly? It’s okay to just like him you know? There’s no need to think too much about it. If you like him, then you like him.
Ying: “It always pays to be cautious. Also, of course I have to be objective! It’s my legacy at stake!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Whatever Ying might say though, Marcus is certainly a charmer. Look at how charmed Ying is by Marcus’s suave flirting!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In any case, the day goes by rather quickly. But yay! The purchase of the Knight suit has been made and the challege can now start proper.

Ying: “I wish the statue came in red. Silver’s rather basic, don’t you think?”
Don’t be ridiculous. A red suit of armour would look weird.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

With the day coming to an end, Ying headed off to the Brindleton Bay’s Gym / Spa ( I placed one of those Spa-Gyms that came with Spa Day in the world since Brindleton didn’t have a gym ) to deal with her hygiene. She spent a whole day fishing and digging around in the dirt and most certainly smells funky. But she was so tired she went straight to the couch to nap instead.

The shower can wait.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The next day, after she’s decently rested, she takes a nice long thoughtful shower to freshen up before proceeding to job hunting on her mobile. She settles for a job as a Palette Cleaner. The job itself isn’t amazing or anything, but painting is a skill that brings in a lot of dough even when freelanced. So why not kill two birds with one stone? Besides, Ying hopes to memorialise her primary spouse in the future with a painting.

Best wishes to you and your legacy founder!
Your founder Ying is gorgeous!
Great choice for the family name of your legacy, too. (The character 金 is also part of my family name, but that doesn't make me biased. Nope, not at all!)

Welcome to the forums, and I'm so glad that you decided to post your Legacy story.  I lurked for a while before getting up the courage to post, too.

Ying is off to a great start.  I like the choice of Serial Romantic for her first aspiration.  It sometimes gets a bad rap, but really, you can look at it as just dating-- which is a smart thing for a founder to do.

Ying is gorgeous!  Welcome to the forum ^^  Loving her start so far.  Yesss, go for Marcus!  I have a soft spot for him.  He makes some cute babies and in my ID attempt, he was great friends with the founder as well as helping take care of the kids.

@oshizu Thank you! Haha ~ I sort of loosely based Ying off my mother (don't tell her). Twas thinking, who would be a good founder for a lasting legacy? Then *snaps fingers* it hit. Someone like mum! Lol. Was wracking my brain trying to think up a nice surname for the legacy too, but I'm glad I came up with 金 in the end. It's just plesant aesthethically and to the ear. Also, 'Gold' just feels fitting for a legacy? Idk.

@BallerinaHippo Thanks. ^^ I've been lurking on-off the forum for years now without an account. The influx of Sharebear legacies spurred me on and I finally somehow got the guts to give it a go myself. Hopefully it all works out! Fingers crossed!

Totally agree about the Serial Romantic aspiration! Ying needs to get to know her potential spouses better before commiting to them. It's an entire legacy at state! Also, in my expirience, the romance aspirations are relatively easier to speed through/complete as compared to all the other aspirations so might as well grind those tasty satisfaction points ASAP eh?

@Shewolf13 I don't usually interact with OG townies much on the romance side cause my playthroughs usually have set couples/relationships already. But errr... heh heh. Considering your soft spot for Marcus, you might be a lil' disappointed by the next update. Not giving any spoilers! :-X So read on to find out more. ;)

@FrancescaFiori Thank you! Glad you liked the name. :)
And Ying is all about red. Once she gets a proper place to settle into, I'm gonna bet she's gonna fill it with mostly red furniture. More red = more prosperity.

1.2 — Hard Work & Heart Break
« Reply #11 on: April 24, 2018, 04:56:43 AM »
(You can read this post on Wordpress HERE)

1.2 — Hard Work & Heart Break

Picking off from where we left off, Ying got herself a job as a Palette Cleaner. There was still a day or so before work would start for her so she headed off to Casbah Gallery, San Myshuno to study up her new trade.

Ying: "Early bird gets the worm! Always best to be prepared!"

Ying can't afford an easel at the moment. She doesn't even have a bed and has been jumping between the Spa-Gym and Parks to get her fix of food, showers and sleep. So the easels in the gallery will have to do.

Not only does she get to fufil her daily task and level her painting skill, I'm pretty sure she levels it faster in the gallery if those sparkly, golden icons above her head are indicative of anything. Must be the décor. Or maybe it's a lot trait?

Ying: "Whatever it is, I'm overflowing with inspiration! Just wait and see! I'm gonna paint something awesome!"

Are those... humanoid cats?
Ying: "Yeah. Cute aren't they? On the way to the gallery I saw two meows getting it on. Must've stuck with me."

Ying's first portait sells for a miniscule profit of $6, but no matter. She paints for the rest of the day, leveling her skill. The profits she gets from her portaits also scale up with her skills. It's not much, but some cash is better than no cash. It's pretty much her routine for the next few days. Work. Skill. Sleep. Work some more.

All that hard work pays off and she gets promoted a couple of times! She's no longer a lowly Palette Cleaner, and is now a Hungry Artist. With all the money she's managed to save from her promotions and portrait sales, she finally has enough to afford a bed, an easel of her own, and basic hygiene facilities ( no sink though ).

Hungry Artist is a pretty apt description of Ying's situation. There's still no fridge, simply because Ying is stingy and insists that she can still live off the grill by the beach.

Ying: "A fridge is way too expensive at the moment. And totally not necessary."
You can afford it. Running to the grill everytime you need to eat is so inconvenient...
Ying: "Eh. I'd much rather spend my money on making more portraits to sell. Don't worry, I'll make enough to buy that fridge soon enough."

She's way too practical for her own good. Sometimes I wonder if she'll ever learn to enjoy herself.

But hey! Here's a cute shot of Ying sleeping in her new bed. No more benches and sofas!

This update would've been rather boring, since Ying was basically trying to grind her painting skill and power through her career. A tough childhood has left her pioritising money above almost everything else, and she can't bear to do anything other than work for more money while she's still so strapped financially. But everyone has their exceptions. And for Ying, her exception was Marcus Flex.

The Humor and Hijinks Festival rolled by, and Marcus asked Ying out on a date if she wanted to go with him, and she said yes in a heartbeat.

Awww, so you do like him.
Ying: "Of course I like him. He's a nice guy. A good friend."
You know what I mean ~
Ying: "I don't know what you're trying to insinutate but—"
Ying and Marcus sitting on a tree. K-i-s-s-i-n—
Ying: "OKAY. That is so childish! What are you? Five? I just thought it'd be nice to have a break from all that painting. And I also can't have my friendships detoriating because of my work."
If you say so.

Ying totally likes him. I mean, look at that hug!

Their little social gathering soon turns into an actual date and well, no one's complaining.

Marcus and Ying are pretty cute together. For one, Marcus plays along and responses really well to Ying. If she flirts, he doesn't just take it, he flirts back. And their back and forth is really cute to watch.

They flirt so naturally the 'date meter' easily hits gold range in no time. Ying is totally smitten, and it's not surprising. She's never dated or ever gotten involved in a romance before and here's Marcus. A man who plays off her so well and knows all the right words to say. Things were going so well, and surely the feelings were mutual. Right?

Ying thought so. The mood was right, so she gathered her wits and took a leap of faith and asked Marcus to be her boyfriend...

ONLY TO BE REJECTED. WHAT?!?

Marcus: "Erm, sorry. But no. Not ready for that sort of thing yet Ying."
Why!? He was totally into you like just moments ago!
Ying: *sniffs*

Turns out the jerk has noncommittal as a trait. Grrrrrr....

I can't believe he still has the nerve to look all smug and blasé about the whole affair.
Ying: "You said that we had something special! That no other girl has ever made you feel this way!"
Marcus: "Yea— Well, I mean. We do!
Ying: "Then why are you so against us becoming a couple? At least tell me why you rejected me!"
Marcus: "It's not like I don't like you or anything, but do we really need to put a label on... this?"
Ying: "This?"
Marcus: "Yeah. We have it good now right? Why change it?"
Ying: "Because it tells me you're serious about 'this'."
Marcus: "But I am serious."
Ying: "Urgh, nevermind."
Marcus: '"So, I think our date's coming to an end. But wanna do this again some other time? There's this bar in Windenburg that's—"
Ying: "Yeah. Whatever. I gotta go. Night."

Urgh. I oughta just. Just. JUST HAVE HIM PEE HIMSELF AND THEN DIE OF SHAME. If it weren't for the legacy testingcheats would've wrecked his sorry ass.
Ying: "There's no need to go so far... but thanks Watcher. It's nice to know you're looking out for me."

Ying: *Burp* "Am I doing it right?"

The rejection took a hit on Ying's mood so she went and had a go at the bubble blower to bring it up. It was her first time so it took a while for her to figure out how to use it properly. She felt a little better afterwards and decided to retire for the night. Starting tomorrow, Ying is probably going to throw herself into her work. At least work and money won't break her heart.

On the bright side of things, at least she got her first Gold Medal for the date despite things sort of going awry towards the end. One step closer to finishing up her aspiration.

Authur's Notes:
Well. That certain was a curveball. What am I gonna do now??? Lol ~
Sorry if my legacy seems sort of grindy. I'm not great at writing nor am I used to starting out with so little finacially on Sims so I'm just a little obsessed with the number on the left-bottom corner. Thank goodness it fits Ying's character.
With rules and legacy goals to fufil though, hopefully I'll branch out a little more so I can write something more entertaining. ><  I mean. Ying has to get like 8 boyfriends eventually and that ought to be exciting?

I love all the great facial expressions you're capturing in the screenshots!
Stupid Marcus! But you don't need to use a cheat for revenge. When you're wealthier, Ying, invite Marcus over for a dip in your 3x3 pool (with a fence, lol)... *coughs
Oh well, at least he was good for a first kiss! You didn't want that adult Marcus, anyway!

I know it's a different character, but Ying's name reminds me of that Tang-dynasty chuanqui, The Tale of Ying-Ying. I bet your gorgeous mother has read it. :D

P.S. The knight statue needs to go in household inventory so that it inflates Ying's bills without providing an environmental boost.  ;)

Bad Marcus, bad. Ying might've just dodged a bullet there, some of Marcus' kids (at least in my games) wind up with a weird lower lip, like the skin tone doesn't match the upper lip and it just makes the whole mouth look really off. Still I agree with Oshizu, he could be excellent death fodder for the pool and it would be nicely ironic given how beefy and in shape he is. Good luck to Ying in the future. There might be someone else in her future.
