Question
« on: June 22, 2014, 07:40:35 PM »
Hi all,
I haven't played Sims in over a year and when I launched it, there were a bunch of updates I needed to make. Right now I'm stuck because it says "unable to connect to EA download manager." I'm trying to update update 1.67.

I don't know if this is relevant but I also downloaded the Origin manager thing since it said that EA switched over or something...???

Help would be very much appreciated!

I'd get the Superpatch and run that to patch it rather than through the launcher.

@Dellena,
For the superpatch, do I need to back up my files and move my custom items just like I would normally?
Also, do I need to download the Origin downloader then?

You still need to backup files and move custom items, even with the superpatch.

You do not need Origin. :) That's how I patched my game because I hate origin.

Thank you! I installed Superpatcher and the game version is up to date and the patch is updated.

But now I have a new problem:
After installing Superpatcher, I still keep getting the error message that "EA download manager can't connect" -

1. Should I uninstall EA download manager all together?
2. The game launcher only shows Sims 3 (the base game). My ambitions expansion pack icon is lit up on the bottom of the launcher, but when I load the game, it says that it can't load my current game because it has stuff from the expansion in it.

I don't really know where the problem lies... someone please help!!!

This is how I installed it... seemed to work the best.

Install Sims 3. Don't bother with the download manager.

Install the superpatch.

Install expansions and stuff packs after that. Did that on both my desktop and laptop and the game runs fine, without the download manager or origin.

EDIT: Also, if it helps, I install EP's and SP's by release date. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

@KhaineGB,
Thank you, but is there a way I can do this without having to uninstall everything and reinstall it?

If it's complaining about missing content, probably not.

If your game is fully patched, try this to bypass the launcher:
http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Bypassing_the_Launcher

If you add a shortcut to the TS3W.exe application directly, the game should open with the default version with all EPs installed.  It skips the launcher step to make things load even more quickly.
