Do pets count towards Charisma skill requirements?

I haven't got the game yet so I can't test it for myself. But I was curious: In order to increase your Charisma skill to higher levels, you are required to have a certain amount of acquaintances and friends for each level. Do pets count towards this total?

I just checked my sim's charisma skill, her only friends are 2 horses and a unicorn. It says that she has 3 current friends that fill the requirement, so it looks like they do!

Also, I got the one charisma skill point she has from talking to a bird. :P
