The Sims 4 Mods

Gameplay Tuning and Alterations by Carl

Sims 4 Mods
Rare plants used to spawn normally with grafting. I made a very simple mod for to fix what many players think is a "bug".

I've only recently started learning about modding, in order to teach myself more about how the game's internals work. I'm hoping this is an experience that will help me to uncover better information about gameplay mechanics in The Sims 4 and future games in the franchise. Since I analyze gameplay systems, I may also feel that I can improve things (for myself and other players) by making adjustments to how things work. Sometimes my views don't line up with the Developers. For now this list is sparse but I need a place to host what I've created.

Installation of Mods
As a general rule, mods come in either .package format or zipped. They will be placed in /Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods on Windows (create this folder if it doesn't exist). There are usually one of three scenarios: If the file you downloaded ends in .package it doesn't need to be unzipped, just place it in the Mods folder. If the mod is a zip file that contains a .ts4script file you can leave it zipped. If the downloaded file is a zip that contains a package file, you must unzip it. Enable mods and script mods in the gameplay menu > other then restart The Sims 4. If you get stuck you may try our guide to installing mods.

Spliced Plant Rare Spawn "Bug Fix" Mod

Is Up to Date and Working as of September 2019

The Seasons patch and Gardening overhaul that came with it made a number of changes to the game's Gardening Skill. One change was that grafting would no longer reliably produce rares - and this is what got me interested in learning to make simple tuning mods, after 10 years of ignoring them.

Grafting allows you to take cutting, splice the cutting onto another plant and combine two plants. That spliced plant can now spawn a rare type of produce give you used a correct combination. Otherwise grafting is used to condense gardens (the plant will spawn one or more types of plant). Grafting was the original means of unlocking hard-to-obtain produce in The Sims 4. The grafting change made weights for spliced plants 500 for common, 100 for uncommon, and 1 for rare. With 6 spawns per plant, this is roughly a 1% chance per harvest a player would receive the rare.

It affects the following grafting combos:

  • Bird of Paradise - Graft Tulip with Chrysanthemum.
  • Bonsai Buds - Graft Daisy with Strawberry.
  • Bonsai Buds - Graft Roses with Grape.
  • Pomegranate - Graft Cherry with Apple.
  • Dragonfruit - Graft Snapdragon with Strawberry.
  • Cow Berry - Graft Dragonfruit with Snapdragon.
  • Orchid - Graft Lily with Snapdragon.
  • Death Flower - Graft Pomegranate with Orchid.

Features: This mod modifies the rarities so that you get equal amounts of all three rarities. Weight is set to 100 for each. A secondary purpose of this is to give players the ability to condense large gardens into just a few plants, but without sacrificing rare and uncommon produce in the process. I am considering a larger mod to roll back other changes made by the Gardening Overhaul.

Hi, is this rare mod updated recently or even last year? If it is updated, then I can get the updated one. I have the old version of this. Looks like it doesn't work at the moment.

Admin:

I'll ask Carl to update it, we did talk about this a while back but it must have slipped to the back of the To-Do list!

I just updated it and tested - it's working now so, try re-downloading it and replacing the file in your mods folder if you'd like to have this.

I noticed my sims are no longer gaining relationship with this mod. I tested it on its own to make sure it wasn't conflicting with anything else but unfortunately it's just this mod that's causing relationships to stall.

Oh forgot to mention, the mod I'm talking of is the Gameplay Overhaul.
