Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Weather

Seasons comes with the expected Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Seasons does not ship with a new world, but rather impacts all existing Sims 4 worlds, including places like Granite Falls and Salvadorada. Each world has its own weather patterns. It may thunderstorm or rain in the spring, summer and fall, and snow in the winter or early spring. Worlds like Oasis Springs are warm and mild in the winter, while scorching in the Summer. As time passes, the world gradually transitions into each season, weather growing cooler as mid fall phases into winter. Players are able to choose the duration of seasons through the game options menu. You can select 7, 14, or 28 days seasons.

With seasons, naturally you get temperature changes. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter just as you'd expect, and those things will effect Sims to a large degree.

Temperature

Temperature matters in The Sims 4 Seasons. To help with preparing for what awaits them outside that day, Sims can check the weather channel or simply mouse over the temperature and weather interface at the bottom of the screen. The calendar located in the bottom left will show you a forecast for the next seven days.

While exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, Sims can overheat or get too cold. Proper clothing can help a lot with this, but there's also temperature control inside the home and ways to cool off or warm up. Yes, the Expansion comes with a thermostat, and it's possible to mishandle it (like by cranking the heat in the Summer). A Sim getting too hot can have deadly consequences, so this system is also realistic and extreme situations can result in a Sim's demise. Preparedness is key!

Players can choose whether the worlds generate strong thunderstorms and blizzards occasionally, or if these never develop leaving Sims with tame rain and snow. Via the options menu, you can also select whether or not temperature makes an impact on Sims. Do this if you find it too annoying not being able to leave the house in a world with a more extreme summer or winter. Learn more about the weather in Seasons.

Weather Machine

The Expansion, of course, comes with a weather machine that lets you do just about anything to the weather for a day. Look to the Weather Machine Guide for more detailed information. Rain coming on your Saturday party when everyone's ready to have fun? Change it to a sunny mild day. It can also be used for diabolical purposes, like bringing in a blizzard in the middle of the summer when no one is prepared. More powerful options like changing the current season are also available. While you purchase the weather machine from buy mode (and don't build it yourself) there are over half a dozen upgrades available that improve its reliability and functionality.

Patchy the Straw Man

The Sims 4 Seasons features a Scarecrow named Patchy who you can buy and place on your lot. Befriend him, and he'll come to life and work in your garden. If you check his pockets, he may have some useful seeds. Check the guide to learn about all of his abilities and cooldowns. View the video guide above or visit the text guide to learn more.

Activities & Holidays in Seasons

From yard work to water balloon fights, the Expansion's trailer showed a busy world filled with building snowmen, playing in sprinklers, and dodging lightning bolts. With a fully functional calendar for event planning, there are several premade holidays - Lovefest (Valentine's Day), Harvestfest (Thanksgiving/Halloween), Winterfest (Christmas/Hanukkah) and New Year's. The Expansion's seasonal cycle and calendar produce a simulated year for Sims. What is more, Sim families can also make up their own holidays that repeat every year. Get together and do a polar bear dip or even play video games. You choose the activities that take place at the celebration and can invite others. The calendar also shows who is available when, so you can select a time to celebrate when a dear friend isn't going to be at work.

I'm happy to report that there is integration with other Expansion Packs and DLC. For example - and as we had hoped - shoveling snow and raking leaves can help Teens develop responsibility from the Parenthood Game Pack. Players who own The Sims 4 Pets will find their furry friends are also effected by the temperature and weather, with new interactions with snow and rain puddles. So far the team has been good about incorporating Get Together's Clubs into each Expansion, and Seasons is no exception. Furthermore, the Get to Work businesses can be used with our next major feature: The gardening career.

Gardening Career

The Sims 4 Seasons: Gardening Career
Click to Enlarge. Sims can make money with the new Gardening Career Expansion feature

At long last, there is a gardening-related career, and one that allows you to choose when you'd like to work from home (similar to those brought about by City Living. The Career branches at around halfway, allowing you to choose whether you'll be a Florist or Botanist. You can create a floral shop by incorporating with Get to Work, and sell your arrangements for a living. This is a fairly interesting idea, though of course it is no different from selling paintings as an artist. The Botanist branch is more focused on gardening itself, and a nice addition padding to your gardening income though there's nothing particularly special about it.

Beekeeping

The Sims 4 Video

Sims can also do beekeeping, which allows them access to special interactions provided by bees, along with honey. Beekeeping acts as a passive money maker that also provides a boost to Gardening. Bees pollinate plants nearby, providing a passive fertilizer effect that stacks with regular fertilizer. See the above video to learn all about this new feature - I'll write a text-based guide to it soon, now that I know everything.

New Skill: Flower Arranging

The Sims 4 Video

Sims don't need to take the floral designer branch of the new gardening career in order to benefit from the new violets are blue flower arranging table, available for $250 in Buy Mode. They're able to begin leveling this skill regardless of that track though it's possible they may miss out on some nice unlocks from Career progress. The jury is still out on that one. Here's a guide to the new Flower Arranging skill.

Scouting

The Sims 4 Video

Scouting is a new activity for Children and Teens in The Sims 4 Seasons. This new after school job is unpaid, but offers a ton of skill experience via the Scouting Aptitude reward trait you receive should you max out the 'career'.

New Deaths

There are multiple new deaths associated with Seasons. Sims can, of course, be struck by lightning if they are outside during a powerful thunderstorm. You can also overheat if there's a heat wave and your Sim isn't wearing cool weather clothing, while the opposite is also true. We're still looking to report on the last death which may be related to the gardening career, though it may simply be aging up prematurely via a scent the florist can create.

Umbrellas in Seasons

While I covered this on the weather page, it's worth noting here because a lot of people will have trouble figuring out how to find an umbrella. Umbrellas are categorized under Appliances > Misc. You can also do a text search for it and look for the 'Umbri Umbrella Rack'. Have each of your Sims claim an umbrella and they'll keep it, so long as you don't put it back. The umbrella doesn't appear in your inventory at all. The Sim is just flagged as having one. They'll use them automatically any time there's precipitation, though the umbrella can be broken in strong thunderstorms they seem to automatically replace them. Even doing something like gardening in the rain is possible with an umbrella, as the Sim will whip it out between animations without actually getting wet.

Father Winter

One of the special characters in Sesons is Father Winter. It's possible to Woohoo with him and even Try for Baby! Go to the Try for Baby with Father Winter Watch Page on Youtube, or find it on My Sims 4 Guide Channel to view it. A text guide to Father Winter is also available.
