I just caught up on this story. It's wonderful, very mysterious and well written! I feel so sorry for Ares. Stiles seems like such a bad man, but I'm still so curious to meet him.

If you read the first couple of chapters of Rex Rocker, you'll see what happened when Ares was first born.
Thanks for reading! I'm glad you're all liking it!

Chapter Ten: A Strange Revelation
Feeling alone and completely distraught, I headed home, yet again. I rode in the back seat of a taxi not really knowing what to think. I just wanted to meet him and the situation had turned into something so much more. Something way beyond my comprehension and understanding; I never wanted it to be like this, not in the least. It made me think about my sons though. What if this had been them? I pressed my face against the window of the cab.
"Taxi, wait." I leaned forward talking to the driver, "Take me back. Take me to the Vito's manor." We turned around in a parking lot. I knew I didn't want my sons to grow up wondering if I loved them, wondering if they could come to me with their problems or ask me anything. We arrived on the big hill with the huge estates. On either side of the circular road, there were two huge mansions, but up ahead the town had built the JRA International Equestrian Center where they bred and showed horses.
Poseidon had wanted a horse and if I had any fatherly love in me anywhere, I wasn't about to let him down. I didn't care if his birthday wasn't for a couple of years or so, he wanted a horse. I paid the taxi driver and walked into the huge horse stables where a man greeted me.
"I want to buy a horse." I told him sternly.
He led me and showed me around eight stables holding different horses.
"Now this first one is a little aggressive, but she's fast and very smart." I didn't like the color of the horse and I knew Poseidon wouldn't either. He had told me he wanted a draft horse like a Clydesdale or a Shire horse.
Then I saw her, a magnificent mare with a white muzzle and a light beige mane and tail, with feathering. I had never seen a more beautiful horse.
"That's the one." I pointed to her, "How much do you want for that mare?"
"$490" the man stated. I wrote a check and he gave me the reins to her bridle, "Nice doing business with you."

The boys were surely already home, but by the time I got back, night had thrown its dark blanket over Sunset Valley. I didn't quite know if Poseidon wanted his horse to be a race horse or a jumping horse, so I took a wild guess and bought some racing posts. I also bought a stable and a ton of hay which I stacked against the house (it had to be moved later though.) Then I also bought a water trough and salt lick.

I hope Poseidon would like the mare, but I felt bad for not buying Zeus anything. So I ran to the store and bought him a telescope which I set out in the front yard. I knew they'd be surprised when they woke up in the morning. I went to bed that night feeling a little better and I didn't have the nightmare...

I woke to the sound of Bella walking in the living room and Hades and Athena giggling and gurgling. I walked out to find her sitting in the floor with Hades teaching him to talk.
"Hey sleepy head." she smiled up at me, "Hades has just about learned to use the potty." I could tell she knew I had been depressed, I still hadn't told her what had happened.
"Where's Athena?"
She pointed into the living room. Athena sat in front of her crib drinking her bottle. I bent down and kissed Bella's head.
"I love you." I walked in and picked up Athena and tossed her in the air, she squealed with enjoyment. My children were my life and I could never do what Stiles had done to me, to them. I loved them with all my heart...
I put Athena's potty training back into action and she learned it right then. I then sat her down in between the two cribs and started to teach her to talk. Bella had done so well and had almost taught Hades to talk; I knew she didn't have time to work with both kids.

After a little while, Athena caught on and said "daddy" for the first time. I hugged her tight and then carried her into the foyer where Bella still sat in the floor teaching Hades to talk.

"She said 'daddy.'" I smiled. Bella looked up at me with a look of concern, "What?"
"What's wrong?"
I sighed. I couldn't hide my feelings from her, Bella had been there for me with everything and I knew it best to communicate.
"You remember I went to the house yesterday..." I placed Athena who had started to squirm on the floor.
"Yeah, what happened?"
"He wasn't there...but I found this note under the door." I handed it to her. She started to read it and about halfway through she furrowed her eyebrows and then looked back at me.
"This man is a piece of work. Why would you say that to your son?" she then looked at Hades and I knew she would never be able to say anything like that to her children. Only a cold hearted snake could even consider writing such a cruel letter in the hopes that his son would find it.
"I don't know...I've been trying to forget about it."
Bella then smirked at me.
"Yeah, I saw the horse, Ares." she giggled lightly, "You didn't think you could sneak all of that large horse equipment to the backyard without me noticing, did you?"
"I just felt so bad when I read the letter. I didn't want my sons to think I didn't love them."
"Its completely understandable." she looked back at Hades then back up at me, "So what kind of horse did you get exactly?"
"Its a Shire horse. She's a beautiful mare, Bella. You ought to go look at her."
"Has Poseidon seen her yet?--"
At that moment, Poseidon walked out of the bathroom.
"--hey, baby!" she quickly said.
"Hi mom." he rubbed his eyes. Bella looked up at me and motioned with her head to somehow get him outside.
"Hey, son, will you go look out back? I think an old limb fell and I want you bring it up to the road for the trash to pick up."
"Okay, Dad." he went and got dressed then headed outside. Bella and I rushed to the kitchen window.
Then a second later we heard a scream.
"DAD!!!" I walked outside.
"What, son?"
"A...a horse!" he pointed.
"Happy extremely early birthday." I grinned. He jumped up in the air and ran to me.
"Thanks Dad! Thank you so much!" he hugged my waist.
"What are you going to name her?"
Poseidon thought for a minute...
"Epona! You know? From the video game?" he grinned. I looked at the large mare and I did see the resemblance. I had bought a green and brown bridles, a green saddle and blanket, and a chest strap. Poseidon, I could tell, loved her instantly...

"She's all yours buddy. You'll have to work with her. You can't ride her right now, but you will later."
Poseidon jumped right to brushing her and cleaning her hooves, he talked to her and petted her, and hugged her. Then he went to scatter some hay for her.

I don't remember why he put his pajamas back on, but that's okay

Zeus then walked outside. His hair still wet, so I knew he had just got done showering.
"What's going on?" then he rounded the corner and saw the large horse in the back. I thought his eyes would pop out of his head.
"Your brother has a pet now." he then looked at the ground, "Look over there, Zeus." I said pointing to the edge of the yard. There sat the telescope. He looked through it until nightfall. They both stayed outside all day. Poseidon loved that horse, it instantly became his best friend. He also started training her for racing. I knew she'd be ready to race by the time his birthday came around.

While the boys were outside, Hades and Athena had finally finished learning to walk, talk, and use the potty and started playing with their toys in the foyer.

Bella and I finally had some alone time and headed to the bedroom.
"Thank you so much for supporting me through this." I told her as we relaxed on the bed.
"You are my best friend, Ares."
I grabbed her and pulled her closer to me. We hadn't had some romance since Hades and Athena were born, but we did that night...

I hoped later that she wouldn't become pregnant...

Afterwards, I kissed her and headed outside. I decided to help Poseidon out and I would upgrade the water trough so the water would refill automatically.

The horse came to drink by me and when I finished, I approached the majestic beast.
"I just wish I knew why my father was like this..." she snorted with her head low to the ground.

"You really are a beautiful horse...I just need a revelation or something."

"Ares, there's someone here to see you!" Bella called from the front yard. I gave Epona a carrot then headed to the front yard.
"Hello, Ares. Its nice to meet you, can I talk to you for a minute?" a man in a black sports jacket, black pants and black shoes stood in the front yard.
"And you are...?"

Chapter Eleven: The Villain, The Princess, The Hero
"I'm Stiles, Ares. Your father." the man stated as if it he were just my father, as if he'd been there all my life and helped me with my girlfriend or grades. Stiles never came to watch me enter the world, he never came to visit and see my first steps or hear my first word. He didn't even come to my birthdays or comfort me when Christopher died. My father never once entered my life, he only left to be two towns away just to get fired and never come see me.
"You think you can just come up here and expect me to take you in as my father? Why are you really here?" I jabbed at his chest.
"Whoa, slow down, son. I just wanted to apologize..."
I didn't trust him, not after everything he had done. Not after all the heartache and stress he had forced upon me.

"I don't want an apology. I want an explanation. You never called, you never showed up. You didn't even bother to come watch me be born."
"I was busy, Ares."
"With what? Being drunk, depressed, and getting fired?"
"I had a life, Ares. Your mother threw me out. I was going to marry her! I was going to move in and we were going to have a good life together. We were going to raise you together." he pleaded with me.
"I don't believe you. Mom said you sounded desperate. She was only a one-night stand to you." I turned away, his face disgusted me.
"She was a wonderful woman. I had never connected with someone like I did with her. When she turned me down...I didn't know what to do. I felt alone and she carried my child, you, inside of her. I couldn't convince her to let me stay so I left. I even sent some money to help her out too. When I tried to visit, she had always moved to a bigger home."
"That's not true. We lived in the same house until Asclepius and Apollo were children. You could have come visit us then, but you didn't! You stayed away, as far away as possible. I'm glad I listened to Mom and stayed away from you."
"Well fine. Ares, but I am sorry for everything I've done."
This man, the man who created me and abandoned me wanted to make amends. I couldn't trust him, he had lied and cheated his way to where his is now and he still continues to lie by saying empty apologies to me. I didn't understand why he had even come here or what he really wanted from me, but I had to find out, even it meant spending more time with him.
"Fine...what do you want, Stiles?" I refused to call him "dad."
"I have an investment in the corporation, as you know, and its growing...fast. I was wondering if you'd want to partner up with me and share in this profit."
My blood boiled, he wanted to share his stolen money with me?! What next, did he want me to kill Zelda and then run away with him to Bridgeport and live happily ever after with him?
"Why do you want me to share this with you?" I eyed him carefully. I didn't want any sudden act of defense or slyness to slip by me.
"I've got something great planned for the profit I make from the Doo Peas Corporation real estate."
I hesitated. He had planned to do something worse with all of his stolen money. I thought back to the conversation Bella and I had after Zeus and Poseidon had been born...something about buying out all of the big corporations in town.
"What are you trying to do, Stiles? Run everyone out of business?" I folded my arms.
"Well, not exactly. Just one business in particular." he smirked evilly at me. I didn't like where his plans were headed and considered pressing the record button on my phone.
"What business...?" I wearily asked. I thought of all the businesses in town that could easily be taken over: Hogan's Diner, the theater, the grocery store or bookstore, or even the fitness center. Then, before he spoke it hit me...
"The theater, of course." he laughed, "I already own it, but if I invest in my own business, then I'm getting a bigger share of the profits and I have full control of the company."
He made it sound like he just wanted the money, but I knew something hid beneath...
"Why are you really wanting to have complete control of the theater, Stiles?"
"I have my reasons, Ares. If you invest, I'll fill you in." he smiled bitterly sweet.
"No. I won't do it. I won't invest."

"There will be large profits in the near future though, Ares. You can be rich. You can provide for your family like you never have before! Please invest." he practically begged me, but still unsure, I declined.
"No, I can't. I don't know what you have hiding up your sleeve..."

"Then I'll just have to take over the theater by myself. You'll see, you'll all see why you shouldn't cross my path." he sounded angry and I feared what he'd end up doing.
"Stiles, don't do this! You're making a big mistake! I'm begging you!"

"No. I'm going to carry out my plan and you'll pay for denying this great opportunity, Ares. You'll pay."
"Fine. Go about and get arrested, Stiles. I will never go along with this. Its ludicrous. You're going to get charged with fraud." I knew this plan wouldn't be carried out successfully. I feared the worst for the theater though; everyone there would be so unsuspecting.

"I will. You'll see Ares and you'll regret this decision. I'll be sure to make your life as miserable as possible. You're not my son, you're just a scared man with no backbone."

He then stormed off and my heart bubbled with hatred. I hated the man, I never wanted to see his face again. I should have calmed down before I went back inside, but I didn't and Bella could see my anger right through me. Not as though I had been trying to mask it though, I had slammed the front door shut when I went back inside.
"What happened? Who was that?" she looked up from washing the dishes.
"That, my wife, was Stiles." I, still fuming, pointed out. She dropped the plate in the sink and it shattered with a ear piercing crash.
"That was Stiles?!" she dropped the dishrag she held and had to pull out one of the kitchen chairs to sit down. Amazed, she rested her hand over her mouth.
"Yes and you'll never believe what he asked me."
She looked up at me.
"He wanted to me to share in his investment in the Doo Peas Corporation. Apparently once he gets enough cash, he's going to buy out the theater and do gosh knows what..." I wiped my brow, my frustration had caused me to sweat.
"You denied right?"
"Of course. You don't actually think I'd partner up with him, do you?"
"I'm just so amazed..."
"Me too..."
I pulled out a chair next to Bella and rested. I didn't even get a chance to fully wrap my brain around the fact that he had showed up at my house. He had spoken to me and I replayed his voice over and over in my head. A man who should have been there all my life finally showed up and then just as he had been again, he went away...
I then unexpectedly started to cry. My anger finally settled, my fear and heartache resurfaced.
"Oh, Ares..." Bella embraced me and I wept on her tender shoulder. I couldn't believe he had the nerve to show up, just to ask me to commit fraud and ruin the futures of the theater employees. My own father, the man who gave me half of him and joined with half of my mom, the man who made me in the deep night. I continued to cry and held Bella, too, as she stroked the back of my neck.
"Come on, its time for you to go to bed. You don't need to worry about this right now." she kissed my ear, then led me to bed and laid me in bed. After a couple of hours, I let sleep conquer and drifted into a dream about my family...

In the morning, I woke and entered the living room. Hades and Athena sat in the floor reading their books. They looked so adorable as they flipped the pages with their tiny hands.
My life felt like the books they read; just pages flipping away and sometimes I felt like I didn't read everything I wanted to on the page. I kissed Hades head and started to get ready for work. I knew a promotion to be on the horizon and I couldn't have been more eager to finally get a raise. We needed a bigger house since Hades' and Athena's birthdays would be coming up soon.

Bella went about cleaning the house and I headed off to work as the boys started to get ready for school. I hadn't gotten over the previous night and all day at work I kept wondering what he planned to do with the theater when he had it in his evil clutches. As I did my exercises and chatted with the boss, I had a sudden realization: Mom worked at the theater!
I wished my head hadn't thought it, but I continued my daily work worrying about Stiles getting closer to my mom. Even though I remembered Mom worked there, I still didn't fully understand why he wanted full control of the theater. Still nothing fully added up; the man had a way with leaving holes in his explanations.
As predicted, I earned a promotion to the Squadron Leader and it of course came with a handsome raise.

I went inside to find Bella in our bedroom and the twins still in the floor reading different books. I knocked on our bedroom door, and peeped inside. Bella stood at the edge of our bed smiling ear to ear.
"Uh...what's going on? Why do you look like you killed Stiles?" I walked in and shut the door behind me.
"Because, Ares. I just found out something today!"
"What's that?" I approached her and leaned against the foot of the bed.
"I'm pregnant!" she announced happily.

I took my hand and wiped my forehead, running my palm over my eye. Another baby would be added to the family soon...
My stress level increased tenfold. I didn't know what to do; Stiles surely had devious things planned for my mother, I didn't know how to confront him about his fraud, the twins' birthdays would arrive soon, and now we were expecting a new baby.
"Bella, I need to talk to you..." I grabbed her hand and led her to the living room and sat her on the couch.
"What's this all about, Ares?"
"I found out why Stiles wants to take over his theater."

"Why's that?" she looked at me, but as if she were trying to put the pieces together in her head.
"Mom works at the theater. If he gains control, then who knows what he'll try to do!"
"Oh no..."
She paused then looked at me.
"Maybe he'll die soon, he is getting old Ares."

"Not likely. The man is full of spunk and oozes energy. He's too pumped about his scheme." I scratched my head, my stress continued to increase, "Bella, I don't know if I want this baby..."

She quickly turned to me with pure devastation in her eyes.
"What do you mean you don't want this baby?!"

"We've got so much stuff going on! I'm scared, Bella! I'm really scared!" I glanced back at her and she looked as if she would cry.
"I...I....I don't know what to say, Ares. I didn't know you felt this way...I thought you'd be excited."
I put both hands over my face in distress.
"I am excited--but I'm scared too! How are we going to handle 5 kids, a horse, and a crazy man who's out to get me?!"
"I don't know Ares...look. How about I move out and give you some time to think about all of this? I'll let you know when I have the baby..."
"Bella..."
"No, you need time away from thinking about my pregnancy..."

She then got up, headed into the kitchen, and called our agent on the phone.

"I just need a temporary house, something cheap...yes....oooo, yes, that one will do nicely. Yes...yes, thank you so much. Bye."
"Please don't leave, Bella..."
She smiled so sweetly at me, my heart sunk at the thought of her leaving me in the house alone.
"I'll always be your wife, Ares, but for now. You need things to get your mind off of this chaotic mess. I love you." she kissed me on the lips and then walked out the door, taking nothing but the growing baby in her tummy."

I went back into the living room. I now had to look after two toddlers, two children, and a horse by myself. I didn't know how I would do it, but maybe it wouldn't be too difficult. I fretted over Bella, I worried that something would happen to her and our unborn child. It wasn't as if I really didn't want the baby, but I didn't want to imagine the horrible things Stiles would attempt to do to her or our family.

I decided to feed Hades and Athena and put them to bed. My first night without Bella began and with Zeus and Poseidon being well behaved, it turned out alright. I still missed my beautiful wife, even if she had only been gone for a couple of hours. I loved her and wondered how I would vent my feelings with her gone.

The next morning, Saturday, I fed Hades and Athena and changed their diapers, ate breakfast, then watched some television as the boys played. Zeus and Poseidon spent the day playing with the baker's oven, which they mastered, then Poseidon went out to tend to Epona, who had already reached her halfway mark to her racing skill. She turned out to be a strong horse with a lot of endurance. She would be more than ready by the time Poseidon would get to enter her into the races.

I changed Epona's face to make her look more like the real Epona

My second day without Bella winded down; Zeus ended up using his telescope most of the day after finishing his homework and Poseidon cleaned up the house, did his homework, then headed to bed. The twins read their books, used the potty chairs, then I placed them in their cribs. I went outside and told Zeus to go get his pajamas on and go to sleep.
"Dad." he told me as we headed inside together.
"What son?" I held the door open for him.
"I want to be an astronaut just like you when I grow up." he then raced off to his room.
I smiled, my son looked up to me as a role model and wanted to be like me. Zeus had always shown good traits to be in the military: athletic and great at making friends. He would have no problem going into the army.

I missed Bella constantly, but working with the children most of the day helped to take my mind off Stiles. In a few months, Bella and I would have a new baby added to our family and I would ask her to move back in. For once, I didn't want our new baby to be named after a Greek god or goddess. I decided if the new baby were to be a boy, his name would be Jack and if the baby were a girl, her name would be Samantha.
I grinned to myself then drearily dozed off to sleep...
I dreamed of my children that night and what their futures held in store for them. Even in my sleep, Zeus made me smile when he announced he wanted to be in the military.
It had been a good day...

Haha. I do too.
It amazes me how much Ares resembles him though. The ears and nose are completely identical.

Chapter Twelve: New Additions and New Subtractions
The last few months became almost unbearable, but the children made it better to an extent. I had to constantly remind Poseidon to spend time with Epona and Zeus just wanted to play computer all day. It took some encouragement to get them to do their chores and do better with their skills, and I knew they missed Bella as much as I did. The break from her definitely helped me to appreciate everything I had and suddenly, Stiles couldn't have mattered less to me. I wondered what he planned though, with all this time away.

Aside from having to give the boys an extra push. I continued to go to work and and cleaned the house while at home. There were some broken fixtures every now and then, but I took care of them. I also made sure the twins stayed happy; I played with them, changed their diapers, fed them, and read with them every now and then. I never realized how much work Bella had to do with both toddlers while I worked. Though the work wasn't hard, it still took up a lot of the day and by nightfall, I felt like passing out in the middle of the floor.

I counted down the days to when Bella would be due to give birth to our new baby. As the final trimester started to wind down, I sat at the table with Zeus and Poseidon one night, eating dinner.
"Dad, is that...?" he pointed out the window to someone walking to the house across the street.
I went to the window and blocked the glare with my hands; the person looked an awful lot like Bella. With a closer look, I realized it was Bella! She walked with her tummy out since it had gotten huge.

"Stay here boys, I'll be right back!" I dashed out the door faster than I had ever run before.

"Bella! Bella!" I shouted, but she had already gone inside. I burst through the door, "Bella!"
"Ares?!" she looked astounded at my arrival, "What're you doing here?"
"I saw you walking here and I called for you, but you didn't hear me!"
"Oh Ares..."
I grinned wide; my wife never looked more beautiful to me. She looked as gorgeous as she did when we first got married and I knew I loved her even more now. I embraced her tightly.

"I've missed you so much!" I felt my throat get tight and my eyes starting to water.
"I've missed you too..." she broke away and wiped my eyes.
"Please come back home..."
"Are you sure? Have you had a long enough break--"
"Yes!"
She laughed. I then looked down at her stomach, the baby had gotten so big and I knew she'd be due any minute.
"Look how big you've gotten!" She gazed down at me, I knew that she understood I didn't think she had necessarily gotten fat, but the baby had gotten so big inside of her. I bent over and felt her tummy.

"I'm so ready to meet you...I'm sorry I said I didn't want you..." I whispered to her stomach.

We packed Bella's thing and moved all of it across the street back home. The boys were equally as glad to have their mother back. Bella, worn out from the pregnancy, headed off to bed and I put the twins to sleep for the night. Finally, everything had gone back to normal and I would rest easy that night with my wife beside me.

In the morning, the twins birthdays finally arrived and soon they'd be starting school with Zeus and Poseidon. We were very happy about the birthdays, actually. We didn't want to have three little people around the house that needed diaper changes; one would be good enough. Bella got up, made the beds, emptied the potty chairs and put the cribs back into storage. I woke up Zeus and Poseidon and told them to go do their chores. In the afternoon we all gathered around the kitchen counters where the birthday cakes were set and celebrated the twins' birthdays. Athena went first and Hades followed--Athena grew up beautifully and looked just like Themis when she had been a child. Hades resembled Bella more with age; the way his lips were lower under the nose and his big golden eyes. He looked nothing like his brothers though and I'm sure people would wonder if maybe he was the child of a previous marriage. He wasn't though, Hades couldn't have been more like me in personality and like Bella in appearances.

Seems I lost the picture of Hades blowing out the candles...

They were equally excited about becoming children, Athena and Hades were, but with two older children, we needed more space. A couple of weeks later, we had a buyer for Bella's house and it brought in a lot of cash with it. We had to wait though, because the next morning, Bella went into labor.

We had another little boy...Jack Samuel Rocker...

"You don't want a Greek name, baby?" Bella looked up at me as she held our son for the first time.
"No...not this little guy...he's a special one. He's our reminder that nothing can tear us apart--not any amount of evil, not corruption in a man--not even Stiles will be able to tear our family apart. We are a unit." I kissed her as she started to cry.

We went home and rested for a couple of days. Just Bella, the two sets of twins, the newborn, and I; we lazed around the house, then on Sunday, before the sun went down, we discovered we had enough money to finally buy the house we had built so many months ago. It had 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a bigger kitchen area, and a fenced in area in the backyard for Epona. We bought it right away, packed our things, then drove the taxi closer to town.

Athena and Hades headed into Athena's room to play with blocks, Zeus and Poseidon showered and headed to bed, Bella fed Jack and changed his diaper then put him down for the night. Then she and I had some leftover cake and crashed for the night.

In the midst of my dream, I heard a knock on the front door. I went to open it to find an unexpected visitor...and she appeared very unhappy...

Chapter Thirteen: Corruption from the Beginning
“Mom? What’s wrong? Why are you here so late?” I asked. She looked paranoid and skitty, as if she’d seen a ghost or had been robbed.
“It’s your father Ares. He’s planning something, something bad at the theater. I need you to go check it out for me…” she looked down at the paved walkway and I knew she had more to say.

“…what is it?” I asked.
“I’m pregnant…” she smiled slightly. My mother had finally gotten pregnant with the man she loved. I couldn’t have felt more overjoyed to hear the news and I hugged her.
“That’s great Mom…I’m glad things are looking up for once.”
She kissed my cheek.
“I love you, son. Don’t tell the others, but you’re my favorite…” she kissed me again.
“So how do you know about Stiles?”
A car slowly drove by and she stared at it as it passed.
“Mom…?”
She glanced back at me.

“I just heard about from some people at work. He’s finally gained full ownership of the theater and plans to change its employees’ policies. You have to help, please!”
“Is he there now?”
“He said something about working late on some paperwork, so I would assume so.”
“I’ll go over there right now.”
She grabbed my arm before I could go back inside.
“Please…stay safe, Ares…”
“I will, Mom.” She needn’t worry about me; after all, I was in the military. I fought scarier men than Stiles; maybe not more crooked or evil, but scarier and tougher, yes. I went back inside where my family slept happily in their warm beds. I looked at the time: 5:32AM. I quietly got dressed, kissed Bella and my baby boy good night, and then drove to the theater…
When I arrived all the lights were out, and dawn had just started to break. The golden rays, with pink streaks stretched far over the horizon and the sunlight barely lit anything. I peered inside the theater’s double glass doors; the lights were out, but the door opened.

Foolish man I thought to myself. Anybody, like, oh yeah, me, a military officer could waltz in there and do anything we wanted. The unlocked doors were a good sign though, too, it meant that someone had to be inside and hopefully it would be Stiles.
I walked up the red velvet carpeted stairs to the second floor. A door at the top had a sign attached to the door handle:

THEATER PERSONNEL ONLY

I paid no attention to it and tried to open the door; locked. I looked around, and at the foot of the stairs I found the supply closet. There were costumes hanging up and old props that were covered in cobwebs and dust leaning against the back wall. I saw a box that said “SMALL PROPS” on it and opened it up. I found a fake key, but it would have to do.
I went back upstairs to the door and stuck the key in, it wouldn’t rotate. I couldn’t just bust the door down. I had to be quiet otherwise Stiles might break for the exit. I looked up. The ceilings tiles could be lifted. The walls were pretty closed together, so I popped one of the tiles out of place, and then shimmied up the wall into the ceiling area. I only needed to get over the door so I crawled over two ceiling tiles and removed another and dropped down. I now stood in a long hallway with doors on both sides. Stiles would have to be in here somewhere.
I looked to my right, at the end of the hall on the left side, a light shone dimly into the hallway from one of the rooms. I crept down the hardwood floor to the edge of the door. I could hear Stiles talking on the phone with someone.
“Yes. I know…yes…no, no, I used the money to buy out the theater.” He laughed, then continued, “I’m working on changing the policies right now. Yeah, when I’m done, no one will be able to leave the theater, and the best part: no one will know it’s me. I’ve been flying under the radar for years. Yeah…I’m going to get back at her…yeah. When she comes into work today…no, I’m not going to kill her! I’m going to make her pay! I want her to see the life she missed out on--”
I knew in that instant he meant my mom. The clues had finally, after all these years, come together. He went into real estate with these women because they owned big businesses and to keep him from having any kind of record in the police station. After he made millions from the Doo Peas Corporation, he bought the theater as a partnership and once his portfolio filled with tons of money, he gained full ownership. Now he wants to change the theater’s employee policies to make sure no one can leave the theater that way he can have his revenge on Mom!
My rage built and I swung around into the doorframe of his office.
“Hi Dad.” I said sarcastically. Stiles looked surprised at my entrance.
“I gotta go…” he said into the phone and then hung up, “How long have you been here, Ares?”
“Long enough, what’s this about changing the theater’s policies?”
He chuckled.
“Ares…this was the big picture I was telling you about! These are the unearthed details you so begged me to fill you in on. This is it! I have billions of dollars from investing in companies and now, I can do whatever I want to the theater.”
“This is illegal and you know that. Besides, I recorded everything you said over the phone.” I had my phone ready to record his conversation. I knew he would be too egotistical to not brag about the terrible things he had been planning to do.
His face slowly disintegrated into a frown and I held up my phone.
“Give that…to me….now, Ares…” he said with teeth clenched.
“No. Give me the policies.”
“Ares…”
“Stiles…”
He then leaped over the table, knocking over his lamp and some papers and chased me down the hall. The only way out would be to bust down the door or jump out the window. I had to think fast and when I looked behind me, an epiphany occurred.
Stiles wore a black suit, his anger overcame his any other misperceived notion that I had of him and with that glance, I noticed a very peculiar similarity. He looked like the knight on the horse in my dream. He appeared so nice when he came with the proposal of letting me into the scheme, but deep down, in his wicked heart, he had different plans; plans to make my mother’s life miserable.
I made a sharp turn and threw my body against the door. It crashed through the doorframe, and I went tumbling down the stairs. I huffed and puffed when I rose and noticed his hand just behind the collar of my shirt, I sprang up and raced through the back doors of the theater.
He followed me into the parking lot when he realized we were in public.
   “Ares, give me the phone.”

“No, this is it Stiles. You either give me the policies to be burnt to ashes, or I turn you in for fraud and unjust ruling, not to mention theft.”

Stiles glared at me as people had finally woken up and walked about. Then he did something unexpected…he pulled out a gun. I dropped my phone to the ground.
“I’m not going to jail and this isn’t worth all the trouble, not with you meddling in my affairs.”
“Stiles don’t. You’re making a big mistake. Mom offered to let you come see me! She wanted you to come see me! You didn’t though; you ran off with nothing more than a letter and a couple thousand dollars. Don’t do it!”
He hesitated and started to cry.
“Sorry Ares…but I had been depressed ever since I returned to Sunset Valley. Your mother never loved me…she never wanted anything to do with me.”
“Because you seemed desperate.”
“I can’t do this, Ares.” And then a loud exploding cry rang out beside the theater that day. Stiles body lay on the pavement, and his ghost floated up before me.

“It’s not worth the trouble, Ares…”
I couldn’t believe it…I couldn’t believe my eyes. My father had finally gone. Stiles was gone forever, never to return, never to ruin my life or my family’s life or my mother’s life ever again. He couldn’t touch us anymore, he wouldn’t see us anymore, and he wouldn’t speak to us anymore. It was over; all the years I spent trying to seek him out, just to ask a mere question: why did you do it? All those years trying to find him, just to see what he looked like. All those years, wasted, but fulfilled.
I knew I would never get to ask him what my heart truly wanted to ask, but I wouldn’t have to stress another day worrying about him, worrying about what he would do while I was away at work, while my unprotected family stayed at home. I could finally sleep at night; I could finally go back to raising my children and loving Bella. I wouldn’t have to stress another minute with my mind wandering away about Stiles’ corruption, his arrogance and evil plots. I was free.
I was sad too though. My father, after all, wouldn’t be coming back. I would never see him again and I mourned outside the theater for a couple of hours then left him to his grave...

I went home to Bella and my son. She smiled at me as she did the house chores and took care of Jack. I went and sat on the couch and watched the news…

The twins’ birthdays would be arriving in a couple of days; they would be teenagers starting in high school. I never did have the recurring dream of the knight again. I only dreamt of my family and my career. My heart content, my family at peace, all in all, I had finally found my beginnings and my boys’ beginnings were just starting…

I'll continue to update and show you the children's progressions as they age, but I will be starting a new story soon! Thanks for reading everyone!

I agree, that was a great update! It's sad that Ares could never reconcile with his father, but I'm glad Stiles won't be bothering them anymore.

Chapter Fourteen: Teens and Toddlers
We had a lot of birthdays arrive in the morning: mine, Zeus and Poseidon's, and Jack's. Though I wasn't looking forward to finally becoming an adult, I knew there wasn't much of a choice, and besides, I was ready to see my boys turn into teens and my baby son become a toddler.
We bought four birthday cakes for the occasion, then waited for Zeus and Poseidon to come back from the badging ceremony in scouts. Jack went first, being we were very eager to teach him to walk, talk, and not use his diapers as a potty anymore. Then Zeus and Poseidon went. Zeus looked more like me with age and Poseidon resembled Bella. They both grew up handsomely and I couldn't have been any prouder.

Then I went...I didn't feel much different as far as age went and I couldn't really see much of an age difference in appearance. It didn't matter though, only my children mattered at that point.
Bella, Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, and Hades headed off to bed after putting away the left over cake. I potty trained Jack for a little while, before putting Jack in his crib then crawling in bed next to Bella.

Things hadn't been so relaxing, so peaceful, in so long. I had forgotten to appreciate the crickets chirping outside my bedroom window or the light rustling of leaves on the trees that eventually put me right to sleep...

The next morning, the kids got up and prepared for school. Zeus and Poseidon watched TV for a little while, discussing what high school would be like and I headed off to work.

I continued to work with Jack, teaching him to walk and talk, and Bella helped too when I was away at work. This became our routine for a couple of years, Zeus joined the football team and Poseidon joined shop. I received a phone call from Mom saying that she had the baby and named him Cronus, and that she was pregnant with twins.
I was very excited about it, after all, they would be my younger siblings. When I gave it consideration, I realized Mom had already had 5 kids, and was now pregnant with two more...she had a full life indeed and I knew she was getting older...
It saddened me to think like this, but when I thought gloomy thoughts, I remembered that Stiles was gone, never to return, and it cheered me up knowing I had my peace back...

That's a lot of birthdays, but it's nice to see that everything is calm and normal.

Chapter Fifteen: A New Chapter for the Teens
Everything went smoothly over the next week, Bella taught Jack to walk and I was promoted at work. I was so close to becoming an astronaut as I wished. Bella, I noticed, grew anxious to get promoted at work. I knew she wanted to start back at work, and we were done with having children.
I also received yet another phone call from my mother. She told me she had the twins and named them Hermes and Aristaeus, and was pregnant with another set of twins again. She also said that Sam had celebrated his 60th birthday...
My heart grew heavy to think my mother would be next in line to age up. I knew she was getting old, but she was happy with Sam, and that saddened me the most. I knew she loved him more than anything in the world and I wouldn't be able to bear the sight when he passed on...she would be devastated.

However, my boys were finding out love on their own. They met a couple of girls at school, their names were Emily Gresham and Sadie Gregory. They were very beautiful girls.

Poseidon eventually told Emily that he liked her...

Kissed her...

Then asked her to be his girlfriend...

I was so proud of my son, but what father wouldn't be? Zeus...wasn't so lucky on the first night he hung out with Sadie, but he didn't mind, he didn't want to rush it. They both came home, did their homework and headed off to bed.
In the morning, it was my day off, so I spent the day reading up on my mechanical skill as Bella taught Jack to talk and use the potty. He learned both.

After school, Zeus went to Sadie's house and confessed his attraction to her and went in for the kiss. I think she was swept off her feet. Then they started going steady as well. My first born son...had a girlfriend. I cherished the moment...

After Hades mastered his oven and Athena finally mastered the block table, I had to go give a seminar at the base. My wife celebrated her adult birthday and my son would start school soon. Jack looked so much like Hades, and both boys looked so much like Bella. I was happy about it...but a little disappointed, after all, Zeus and Athena were my only children that really resembled me. I still loved all my children though...
I had to miss out on the celebrations, but I was still happy about the new chapters in our lives...

I was ready to see my boys learn to drive and go to prom...then they'd be graduating soon...
