Lisa had was a lucky lady.  I hope Ben sticks around a nice long time!

She was. :( This is why I'm not opposed to marrying in Sims with terrible traits - sometimes, it's the best thing for the family.

Aww... Poor Ben.  :(  I hope he'll stay around for a long time, too. I'd really miss him.

Hopefully the Marathon Runner challenge will ensure that. If only he was a Vegetarian too...

Poor Ben, he seems devastated. Mandy looks nice as a kid.

Thanks saltpastillen, Mandy definitely takes after her mother.

Poor Ben  :( Mandy is so pretty as a child!

Welcome to the forum, Ella! Thanks for choosing to comment on my story. I think you'll like it here.  :)

Chapter 49 – Death at a Birthday Party

It’s hard to be a kid these days when you can’t stand electronics. Mandy has to find other ways to have fun for the two long days before school starts.

One way is through friendship. On Saturday she pillow fights with Omar James, son of Liberty’s boss (Phillip James) and wearer of pretty little princess slippers.

And on Sunday she meets her cousins, Marlin and Shanita Ursine. You know, Courage and Kelley’s kids? Marlin is Evil, Brave and Athletic, and Shanita’s an Artistic Neurotic Diva. They happily take a break from terrorising the town to play with Mandy.

Oh, and Marlin also wears the princess shoes. The fashion of the future, people! I guess it’s nice to know that gender expectations will soon be a thing of the past.

I’m sure Marlin can get away with wearing whatever he wants, though. Just look at that face. He’s like Ben’s evil clone.

When she isn’t visiting friends, Mandy plays with her little toy oven. It doesn’t take long for her to max out her skill and start making cakes and pies for the family.

Meanwhile, Auntie Hope is feeling insecure about her age. Luckily, she has someone to cheer her up.

“Rudy! It’s so great to see you!”
“The same to you, my dear. How was your birthday?”
“Not that great. I was kind of hoping you’d show up and do magic tricks for us at the venue.”
“How do you know I wasn’t there?”
“What?”
“Performing an invisibility trick?”
“Haha, you dork! Here, hold still for a second…”

Yay, Hope and Rudolpho are now officially boyfriend and girlfriend! It’s about time considering they’re both about forty years old or whatever the Sim equivalent is.

Hope’s so happy that she serenades Rudolpho with a rock song. Don’t look at me, she popped the wish.

And shortly afterwards, she finishes up her midlife crisis with wishes for a tattoo and a session on the treadmill. It’s strange seeing her so skinny.

In other happy news, Barry has just completed his lifetime wish to become a chess grand master. That was way easier than I expected! I’m kind of disappointed he didn’t have to play against Liberty, though. I had the dialogue planned out and everything.

He celebrates with a session on the gyroscope conductor. It’s still the most popular pastime in this house.

“My conductor has been claimed! NOOOO!”
“Haha! Sorry Ben, too slow!”
“*sigh* I will return after dark. I trust you will be done by then.”

“Oh, hi Dad.”
“…Hello, Liberty.”
“...”
“…’
“…Well, this is awkward.”
“Indeed.”

“If only Lisa were here to laugh with us!” *sob*
“Dad, you’re making me cry too!” *sniff*

There there, guys. I’m sure Lisa would approve of your mourning.

Ben encounters a little glitch – he somehow ends up with Alicia’s walking stick stuck to his hand for a few days. It makes for amusing screenshots, but I can't help but jump a little when he RAMS IT THROUGH HIS CHEST:

Ben, no! You have so much left to live for!

A few scares later and he manages to detach himself just in time for Stella’s birthday party.

Stella grows up with No Sense of Humour. It doesn’t make her personality any more appealing.

After the sparkles the guests all go outside to eat their cake. Hang on a second, who’s that old guy? Is that…?

“Rudy? Why didn’t you tell me you had your elder birthday?”
“I… I was hoping you wouldn’t have to see me like this. You see, the reason I try to be young at heart is because I am young at heart. I suffer from a condition known as Story Progression Aging that makes me older at an alarmingly speedy rate.”
“So? Did you think I’d be upset you’ve gone all grey?”

“That’s not this issue. Hope, the two days I spent with you were easily the happiest days of my life.”
“Rudy, why are you saying these things? Rudy?”

“Rudy! No!”
“I’m sorry, Hope. I wish we had more time together.”

WELL. That certainly took me by surprise. Poor Hope!

“POOR HOPE? POOR HOPE? I’M STUCK IN A WALL OVER HERE! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH THIS SCYTHE IS WORTH? IT BETTER STILL BE UNDER WARRANTY.”

Homeless townie aging is the worst. Though I was fearing that Ben would be the one to go, and that can't happen, okay?

Yeah, I was afraid Ben would die too. RIP Rudolpho. I've never seen a sim die so early in the elder stage. Great update!

Oh no! That was one death that I was not expecting! Poor Hope...that just doesn't seem fair. :(

I'm glad that Ben is still alive and kicking, even if he continually impales himself with that cane.

Stella grew into a cutie. That whole "no sense of humor" thing might be interesting to play.

How long was he in the elder stage for? It seemed like 5 sim days or something

RIP Rudolpho   :'(
And so soon in his relationship with Hope. I hope Hope will be fine without him.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Sorry it took me so long to reply to them!

The trickery with the title was deliberate  ;). Ben shall live to spin another day. That's not to say Rudolpho's death wasn't shocking to me, because it was. That party was the first time I say him as an elder, so he couldn't have been more than a few days into that age bracket.

Chapter 50 – I’m on Chapter Fifty! OMG!

Hope moves Rudolpho’s urn to her room and mourns him every night. Before long, she starts to feel a presence in the form of whooshing noises and levitating light fixtures. She decides to stay up one night to watch the lamps float, and…

…She meets the glowing spectre of her boyfriend. His visits are scattered and unpredictable, but luckily Hope already knows how to live with that.

“Yaaawn… That’s strange. I think I can see my sister watching TV with her recently deceased boyfriend.”
“That IS strange! You should go back to bed now, Libby.”
“Yes. Sleep. Good idea.”

“Yaaawn… How odd. I believe I can see my daughter embracing her newly transparent partner.”
“DAD! Go to BED!”
“As you wish, my dear. Sweet dreams.”

“Ewww, old people kissing! I’m going to stand here and yell at nothing so you know how grossed-out I am.”

And that’s exactly what she does.

Stella needs a hobby and she has a wish to fish, so I let her cast off in the neighbour’s pool. For some reason, it’s always full of goldfish and minnows for her to catch. They obviously need to clean it out more often.

Soon Mandy will be a teen, which means she’ll have to part with her beloved easy-bake oven. She makes sure to stock up on brownies, cakes and pies.

“HA! She thinks she’s making REAL food!”

Oh, be quiet, random townie. No one can take you seriously with that arm coming out of your chest.

Mandy grows up with her friends, family, and one GIGANTIC planet looking on.

Apart from her lips, she gets her looks from her mother’s side. She’s also a Natural Cook now. Perhaps she was one all along.

Is that a giggle, Miss Jones? I can’t say I blame you. Omar’s now a teen and he turned out cute!

…and he wants to eat your brain. The eeeyes!

Omar has to leave pretty early in the night (no doubt to maul somebody), so Mandy just eats her cake and goes to bed.

Quick Ben update: Our favourite crazy grandpa has grown more adventurous in his old age. First he autonomously puts a pillow through Barry’s mandible…

…Then, more worryingly, he plays with Liberty’s chemistry set. Perhaps he’s trying to make a Young Again potion…? (He actually makes a Stink Juice. Very mature, Ben.)

Back to Mandy. When she’s not flexing and admiring her little twig arms, she likes to visit the library to read culinary textbooks.

And just look who she runs into! Mandy can’t stop herself from doing a happy dance on the spot. She immediately tries to start a conversation with Omar.

“So… Why’d you drag me over to these bookshelves?”
“I wanted to chat, but you were way too close to that computer. Don’t you know how unhealthy those things are?”
“But I like computers! I’m a Genius Computer Whiz!”

“…Ooooh. I was joking?”
“Wow, that’s a relief! I really like you Mandy, I’d hate for something like that to come between us.”
“Yeah, um, me too.”
“…”
“…”
“So... Books?”

Well, that could be a problem. We’ll have to see how things go at the dance.

Uh-oh. Barry’s finally having issues with the conductor.

“*snicker* You having fun there, Dad?”
“HELP MEEEEEE!”
“That’s what you get for putting your faith in technology. Why don’t you just go for a run instead?”
AAAAAAAARGH!

So, with spinning ruined for him, Barry has nothing to do but become a teacher and pass on his Logic skills to the next generation.

“Basically, I’m teaching the neighbourhood’s youths to think critically and develop creative minds. Hopefully, our our guidance will help them reach their full potential, and give them the opportunity to make a difference in the world.”
“Oh, Barry! That’s the hottest thing you’ve said to me all week!”

I'll let you know that I almost woke up the whole house after reading that.

I, for one, approve of ghostly romances and generally ghostly activities. Oh, and that Omar is definitely a catch. I approve of him too.

Okay...breathing now after laughing like a maniac... ;D

I'm glad that Hope gets to keep her love, even if he is a bit less...tangible than before.

Ben is still hilarious. I'm just happy that he fulfilled that marathon runner challenge so he can stick around for a while longer.

Uh-oh...Omar might have some trouble with Miss Technophobe. I hope they can work it out despite their differences. That part between Barry and Mandy was just great though, as was the part between Barry and Libby. Okay, Ben may be my favorite heir so far, but Libby and Barry have to be my favorite couple.

Woot! I love a happy ending.  ;D

Chapter 51 – The Terrible Teens

Stella’s a bit of an odd child. When she isn’t fishing, she likes to stand around and argue with hersel-

ARGH! She did it again! This kid will NOT stop making creepy eye contact with me. It’s almost as if… she knows.

“Hello up there, Laura. Stella seeees you!”

Eeek! Moving on now!

Omar comes home on the bus with Mandy one day. Unfortunately for him, Mandy’s busy getting a tutoring session, so I let him wander around and do what he wants. This turns out to be a mistake. Before I know it, Stella’s autonomously roped him into THIS:

Greta could barely contain her desire as she was pulled into his muscular arms. ‘But Cary!’ she gasped in scandalised delight, ‘What about your Eternally Faithful moodlet?’
“Hmm, Stella is amused by these adult hijinks. Tell me more.”

THERE’S SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS SCREENSHOT. *sob* Aside from the obviously inappropriate reading material, Stella’s leering at poor Omar and that isn’t even her bed – it’s the one used by her middle-aged aunt to romance her magic dead boyfriend. Now there’s a sentence I didn’t think I’d ever have to write.

Well, the least I can do is get Stella up to a slightly more appropriate age. I decide to age her up before school on her birthday so she can go to the dance with her sister. Hey, what’s the worst that could happen?

Oh dear. The trait she gains (and I swear I’m not making this up) is Flirty. FLIRTY. As if the boys in this town needed one more reason to feel uncomfortable around her.

You know what else is freaky about Stella? She has FANGS! I totally didn’t mean to give her the vampire teeth, so either I added them without realising or she just aged up with them in. I’m not sure which option is the more disturbing one; either way, I’m starting to lose control. Help.

Mandy and Stella get ready for their school dance that evening. Cheer up girls, it’s prom night! Show us your pretty smiles!

“Woo. Prom night. I’m so excited I could scream.”
“Pah, Stella is not entertained by this primitive social exercise. She would rather seduce boys the old-fashioned way.”

…Are these dances really getting that predictable?

Apparently so – My game is all “let’s get this out of the way” and makes Mandy Prom Queen the very second she walks into the venue. After that, she and her sister are free to beat up their classmates and be rejected for dances. They come home with a lot of negative moodlets, but they also manage to score a love interest each – Mandy gets together with Omar James, and Stella manages to nab Kristopher Sekemoto.

“Your teacher called to tell me you’ve been fighting! I can’t believe it! That’s certainly not how I raised you to behave, Amanda!”
“…Dad? Is that you?”
“Of course it’s me! I was so shocked by your mischief I aged thirty years in one night!”
“Um, I don’t think that’s how it works.”
“Huh? Speak up, I’m suddenly deaf thanks to you!”
Nothing. Sorry for missing your birthday.”
“You should be.”

Despite her brand new love interest, Stella still has a thing for Omar, even going so far as to invite herself to his house after school one day. And how does he respond to her visit?

“Oh-God-hi-Stella-I’m-late-for-work-already-bye!” *sprint*

Quickly followed by:

*SLAM* “Intruder in the James house! Put your hands where I can see them!”
“Hello, Mister Phillip. Is your case report going well?”
“*gasp* How did you know my name?!”
“You’ve employed my mother for sixteen years and have been present at every one of our family gatherings.”
“…Oh.”

“So you’re Liberty’s kid then? Hmm, I still don’t trust you. You did start dating my son without giving me enough warning to do a background check on you.”

“There has been a misunderstanding, Mister Phillip. It is my sister, not I, who is presently involved with Omar.”
“Really? In that case you seem like a nice girl. Come upstairs and have a cup of tea.”

Meanwhile, cousin Marlin comes home with Mandy during a brief window where I don’t have all my cheats on, and this is what he chooses to express:

“You people are TRASH! And just so you know I mean that, I’m going to be a jerk and ruin your screenshots with all my unflattering clunky thought bubbles!”

Oh, not anymore you won’t. *opens cheat console, enables effect hiding.* I don’t actually hate speech and thought bubbles, but I don’t want to risk important events being blocked and it’s just easier to keep them turned off all the time.

Oh, Marlin. He’s so hardcore he needs hip hop music pounding through his head before he can focus on his homework.

“You know, if you didn’t rely on technology so much you wouldn’t do so badly at school.”
“SHUT UP, MANDY.”

And then he hangs around and blows bubbles all night. True story.

“Marlin, I must object! Bubbles are bad for the growing brain!”
Shhhh. I think I hear them landing softly. Or maybe that’s just the sound of you decomposing, Grandpa.”
“You-! *deep breath* …Every day I grow older, I grow wiser. I hope you live to experience this level of enlightenment.”
“Sure, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night.”

Oh, Ben, I’m sure he didn’t mean it. You’re not that old yet. Please don’t die.

Author’s note: Yes, my name is Laura in real life. It’s not an uncommon name, so I’m looking forward to freaking out all the other Lauras who read this chapter. ;)
