Yeah it does say in the rules that the first born child that is a different life state is the heir but then says that with twins and triplets if they all qualify then you can choose.
That is a little confusing.

Rachel

Actually sometime in the last week or so at Pam's suggestion,  we changed it to the first birth resulting in a different life state to lessen the confusion on allowing you to choose in the case of multiples.

Wait, so we can't choose when we have twins and triplets?  Is this now changing to first named?

My first birth resulted in triplets that were all a different life state.  I randomized their traits as infants, eliminated one as a toddler, then chose the heir as a child.  Also, once one was determined to be a spare I aged them up early and moved them out, leaving only the heir at home with the parents.  The one I chose was the 2nd named in the 1st birth.

No, you can choose if it's multiples.  That part is staying in there.  That's why it's not the first birth of a different life state not first born.

Teresa - you're still fine.

Another question (sorry!). In the case of twins / triplets, do we have to choose an heir right away or can we wait until they age up to toddler (or even later, assuming the requirements are met)?

Metro says: "They can choose whenever they want as long as all the traits are random until the heir is chosen."

No. You're only to bring in spouses for the heirs to bring in the next life state. And adding to the household at all means you have to go through all the requirements which you would not be doing in that situation.

Sorry, I'm confused. Is it adding to the household if the spare moves out instead of the spare's spouse moving in? Thus no one new comes into the household? I'm not trying to question you, I just don't understand.

Phew, that was how I understood it, but then the talk sounded like you were taking out the multiples rule so I got nervous.   ;D  Now back to my regularly scheduled game.

Spares can only marry as a mechanic to move out.   You are not allowed to marry the spare off and then move them out as a separate action.   The moment you marry a spare off, you have to lose control of that Sim.  Otherwise you are adding to the household.

Metro said no because of the way that uponthewaters phrased the question.   That's why I want it very clear that if you're going to have a spare get married - there is no setting up with a try for baby.  There is a ceremony that your Sim throws and then you lose that Sim.  The spare will not be coming home with the heir and it's parent.

My sim just got a 10k wish to Resurrect a Sim. Shame I can't because she would a helper.

I'm sorry, but why can't your Sim resurrect another Sim?
Problem? Don't panic! There is always a solution. You just have to find it  :D

Resurrecting a Sim adds them to the household, so I'm assuming Gogowars did not need a spouse at the time, therefore it isn't allowed.

This is true. And the spouse is actually a ghost.

Say a potential spouse is a single parent.  Is the step-child able to move in to be considered as a spare?  There is no other parent to take the child, and it is not able to stay by itself.  Would I just need to cancel the marriage and find a new spouse if I just found out about the kid when the spouse is moving in?  Or is there a way to move the spouse without the child?

Spares must be children of an heir and their spouse, so a step child would be in a different category and not allowed to come into the house. If you would not be able to move the spouse in without the child, then you would need to find a new spouse.
