Game Crashing Since Installing Seasons
« on: November 17, 2012, 03:48:17 PM »
So I just installed Seasons (doing a complete reinstall for Mac, following instructions on this forum), and I cannot get it to play.  I play 10 minutes tops and the game crashes.

I'm wondering if I am just overwhelming what my little MacBook can handle?  I've looked at the system requirements for the games, but can't quite figure out how much I need to handle the three EPs I have (Pets, Supernatural and now Seasons, and SN and Pets run well by the way).

I have a MacBook with 4 GB ram.   The graphics card is chipset (perhaps this is the problem?) and this is the info. for it:  Chipset Model:   NVIDIA GeForce 9400M,Type:   GPU, Bus:   PCI, VRAM (Total):   256 MB

Processor is 2.26 GHz intel core 2 duo and I have 142 GB free on the harddrive.

I'm thinking about getting another laptop just for gaming anyway, but in the meantime, I wonder if I should just uninstall Seasons?  Is it too much for my laptop to handle?  I'd like to have an idea if this is what is going on or if I should look for other solutions (like do another install, etc)

Thanks for any help!

Oh, I forgot to add, in case it matters, that this was happening in MFalls, and I am running a couple of NRASS mods, which are the latest versions (I even reinstalled them when I did my reinstall, just in case).  Story Progression, Master Controller, Error Trap, and Overwatch.

Seasons keeps crashing; too much for my laptop?

I don't think that all of the mods have been updated yet. Using a non updated mod can cause your game to crash.

Maybe, though I thought they had....and usually my launcher tells me if they are not the correct version for the game.

Actually, I suspect it is something else, as I uninstalled Seasons and tried to play just with SN and the game still crashed.  so I'm going to do some investigating, first taking out the mods and seeing what happens (so thanks for mentioning the mods, or I would have forgotten to try this), then doing a complete new install of everything.

I dont think it's the save file, either, because it crashes even if I try a completely new game.

But I would still love to know if people think running all three of these EPs is expecting to much of my laptop, because if so, I won't bother trying to reinstall Seasons right now.

I have all EPs, SPs and store items and don't have much trouble at all. Except a bit of game freezing this morning which seems to have been cured with a factory reset. As for mods: I get an email when each one is updated but I haven't gotten one for Story Progression yet.

And do you have a similar set up on your computer?

I did uninstall the mods, and I thought that fixed it, because I was able to play for about an hour, but then in crashed again.  I still haven't gotten out of summer yet, which is kind of sad!

anyway, I guess for now,  I'm going to try unistalling everything and reinstalling again.  Sigh.

edited to say, I think I'll try a factory reset first and see if that helps, and then if not, I'll do a full reinstall

My game has been crashing ever since Seasons was installed.

My game has been crashing ever since Seasons was installed. I've tried getting rid of my DC and cache files, but it hasn't help. When the game has been running for 10 minutes, the screen mouse turns back into the computer's mouse instead of the game's. The game then freezes and I have to turn the computer off. I own a Mac, and I'm positive that it meets the system requirements. Has anyone else had this issue?

Yep, me too.  I have a thread on it too....no answers yet, but I'm wondering about it as well.  Sorry I don't have any answers for you, but I hope we both get some!

I don't think that all of the mods have been updated yet. Using a non updated mod can cause your game to crash.

The mods that are needed to keep the game clean, have been updated, at least on nrass site they have been and if someone has mods from there, he has a list of the ones that have been updated.  I can't play the game without those mods or my game would crash.

Me too.  :) I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem. Do you have a Mac?

Yep, I have a MacBook.  I wasn't sure if it was a problem with my MacBook itself since I'm running three EPs, or if it was something else, which I posted in my thread too, which is here:  http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,13331.0.html

You should have a file in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 (or the Mac equivalent - it's the same The Sims 3 folder where Screenshots are). It will start with xcpt, followed by your Computer's Name, followed by a date, followed by a time. It will likely be a .txt file. (so for example, xcpt COREY785 18-11-12 12.59.59.txt.) Can you copy everything under [Exception Info] and post it here? It should look something like this (with different numbers):

Code: [Select]
[Exception info]
date: 2012-08-25
time: 20.31.51
type: ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00000004
address: 0x00000004 <unknown module>

I'm merging the two topics.  Even though it's two different computers, but subject is similar enough that both can be discussed in one thread.

Okay, here they are. I'm not sure what you mean by typing exception info, so tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

What I mean was, if you opened the most recent .txt file, you should find a section titled [Exception Info]. :) Copy and paste that here.

Makes sense to merge the topics; thanks!

This is what mine says (but I didn't post all the stuff that came after this which looks like a lot of code; did you mean that too?  Mine had a lot more....)
