Rules: Starving Students Project
« on: March 09, 2013, 03:40:46 PM »
(Approved by Metro)

With the release of University, I decided to create a challenge for myself to try and experience everything the EP has to offer, while not getting bored!  Here's my first draft of the rules.  Questions and suggestions more than welcome :)

Starving Students Challenge:

Create 2 YA Sims and 1 Toddler Sim.  Relationships can be whatever you choose.  Life states may be whatever you choose
Traits can be chosen - all are allowed
The YA Sims must have Major Master and Max Influence LTWs respectively
The Toddler Sim may grow up however you see fit.
No LTRs can be used to accomplish the LTW.
No Motive Mobile or Moodlet Manager allowed.
No cheats except ResetSim and MoveObjectsOn
Lifespan set to normal
Roommates in homeworld are fine
No selling of dorm furniture for profit.  You may, however, replace/upgrade appliances, redecorate your sim's dorm room, and add/remove Bonehilda
Start out on any empty lot with $500 in funds
No Jobs allowed for any household Sim, including self employment
Can move in other Sims
Money can be earned from grants, university odd jobs, collecting, selling created items and harvestables, tips, and dumpster diving
At some point, at least one plant sim must be harvested and raised

Challenge is over when:

- Both YA sims have accomplished LTWs
- Both YA sims have graduated with at least one degree
- the toddler, having gotten As in school, becomes an adult and scores well enough on an aptitude test for a scholarship
- At least one plant Sim is part of the family from infancy to young adulthood

** Edit - Until a patch fixes it, you may use testing cheats to remove mourning moodlets from inevitable dead roommates.

Hi! I was going to try this project. But one thing confused me. When you send the two out to university, who takes care of the toddler? Thought I would ask before doing anything.

You can send them one at a time or you can move someone in as a caretaker, which is what I did.  My Project is going pretty well so far.  The story is here:

Okay, thanks! I wanted to clarify that before I did anything. ;D And I am reading your story. I'm enjoying it. :)

Minus the toddler, this is essentially my life. I may e willing to give it a shot once my game is fixed and I get University, as long as I can balance all my other games. My chronic jumping around didn't affect nearly as much before I started posting stories!

The only question is, which LTW shall I take and which will be my husband's? They both apply to me more than him...he's neither very academic nor very outgoing, but then he does have a way with people, and I'm the one that's planning to go back to university a million times, so I guess the choice is fairly clear. :)

Yep.  Revenue from anything other than a job is fine.  At University, you can pose nude, take odd jobs, and do dares for cash.  Same deal applies in homeworld.

Hey, I wanted to ask. If your sim can afford it can they move to a new pre-built house? I keep trying to build a house but every time I try to save it the game crashes. And my sims can afford to move so are they allowed?

Yeah, I was having that problem too.  As long as they start out on an empty lot with the specified amount at the start of the game, they can move whenever they can afford to and however often they like.

**Edit:

Also, the way around this bug I've found is to make sure you DO NOT switch floors while building/decorating.  That's how I've been handling it in my ID.
