The Rule of the Weatherwaxs

Introduction

Once, long a go, in a small isolated village called Lancre in the Ramtop Mountains there lived a witch called Alison Weatherwax, rumoured by many to be Black Aliss herself. As is well known, Black Aliss was a wicked, cruel witch....
Oi, that's never been proven! She was cruelly maligned, was black Aliss! Where's your proof, he?
Hush, I was busy with the introduction!
Pfft for that - whoever you are. Get your facts right, girlie, then do the introduction! Why do you need an introduction, anyway?
We need an introduction for the readers, Esme. They need to know where you've come from. My name is Tal, but you make call me Master.
I won't! A Weatherwax bends the knee to no one!!
Well, then, will the Watcher do?
Sounds too controlling. We Weatherwaxs walk our own paths! If your name be Tal, then that's what I'll be calling you.
Quite demanding, arn't you?
One must make a stand. Don't you be a making accusations without proof!
The proof of my statement is in the stories: she not only caused a young girl to lie in a poisoned sleep for a hundred years, she also kidnapped children!
Stories?! That's not proof, that's heresy! Gossip and bad feeling ain't proof. And anyway, how was she responsible for a little miss mischief that poked her nose in matters not meant for her? She helped those two little brats: they were lost in the woods and she offered them food and shelter. And what did they to thank her? Pushed her into an oven, that's what!!
Alright, alright. What if I said she was a domineering figure, with an incorrigible manner?
I can live with that.
I'm so glad to hear that. Otherwise known as Black Aliss, Aliss Weatherwax had an enormous influence far beyond her lifespan. Her sister's granddaughter, Esmeralda Weatherwax...
Who I was named after.
...was thought to be even more powerful than what she was. Even the male descendants of the Weatherwax clan has proved to be prominent members of society - several having become Arch Chancellors of the illustrious Unseen University, as well as the less well known university of XXXX.
Where's that, then?
At the bottom of the world. May I continue without interruptions, please?
If you must.
I must. Anyway, after occupying the Ramtop Mountains for many generations, one member of the Weatherwax clan decided to venture out into the unknown lands. Despite their natural dislike of going abroad (foreigners are such strange people), the young Esme packed her few belongings and took the west road, towards the legendary land called Dragon Valley.
Maybe I'll see a dragon! Or two! Or maybe even three...
You do like having the last word, don't you?
Yep!

Chapter 1: Magical Beginnings

After wandering through her new home-world for a few days, Esme finally decided to purchase the large lot near the town's centre. A witch should be close by to offer the quickest help!
And to hear the latest gossip.
Yes, that too. First thing our young Esme did was....
Garden? Turn people into toads?
No, change your wardrobe!
*rolls eyes*

From left: Everyday, Formal, Sleepwear, Athletic, Swimwear, and Outdoor wear.

Ohhh....I look much better!
I told you you would.

This here land is all mine. Notice the grand feature in the back garden!
Esme, that fountain belongs to another lot!
....
I can ensure that your future house has a grand view over it.
Sniff. I suppose that would do.

There, your fist home. What do you think?
There's a billion places like home. But only one of 'em's where you live.

After exploring her new home for a while, Esme finally decided to use her old broom.

It's HER old broom, you know. As unreliable as always. I had to fly low to prevent a potential fall.

Esme's first stop was at the Alchemy Shop.

This looks easy enough. Shoo while I do my thing!

She also visits the Grocer to purchase a few sample plants to reproduce in her small kitchen garden.

What are you doing at the City Centre?
All witches must work for a living. To do so, I need to register as a Gardener.
Ah, good thinking!

Poor Esme. Have spent several hours trying to harvest all these poor neglected plants, she was too tired to stumble home. Thank goodness for sleeping bags!
Zzzzzz

All gardens must begin somewhere!

Now what are you doing?
Well, I found three of these strange green cones when exploring the town. Talking helps plants grow, so maybe talking will help this thing grow!
That 'thing' is a dragon egg.
Whoot!!

Welcome to the Weatherwax lot, my lovelies!
What are you going to name them, Esme?
Hmmm.....I'll call the green dragon Amschat, the black one Mort, and the purple one Oghem.
Don't you want a red one?
No, I don't hold with fire.

Esme spent the rest of the day interacting with her new critters. I'll let her relate her findings to you.

Do you ever talk directly to DEATH?

Amschat: summon me a treasure!

A goldfish?! What kind of treasure is that?

Lets see what the harvesting interaction does!

Well, that was a shockingly thrilling feeling!

Oh dear. Looks like great-grandmother Weatherwax had it right: magic's not all it's made up to be.

Poor Esme.

Chapter 2: A Handsome Stranger

After a week of gardening, inter-spaced with some alchemy practise, Esme was able to finally purchase a bed.
Good: that bed roll was become slightly cramped.

One afternoon, tired of only using the slightly feeble Invigorating Potion, Esme decided to go see what the Elixir shop has to offer. She had barely gotten past the entrance when a handsome stranger met her eye...

Hmmm....hello there, darlin'.

Esme! Really! How forward can you get?
I can't help it! It's this weird attraction thing. I feel all light and swirly.

Well, chat a bit first - find out what he's like before making goo-goo eyes at him.
Yes, mom.

His name is Mason Sockholme. He's a Snitch at the local police station.

And he has a gorgeous smile!

Well, that's something. Only, he's a witch. You need a different lifestate partner, Esme.
Says who?
Says me.
Sigh.

Ah....young love.

Maybe I should reconsider...there is always ways to remove his 'witchy' side.
As long as you leave his 'outside' just as it is.
*eye roll*

As you can see, Esme was not backward in coming forward with some romancing moves...

First kisses are always the most treasured.

Star-gazing, giggling and smirks marked our evenings.

So, are you going to pop the question?
What question?
Esme!
Umm...well, I've kind of already asked him....

You sly thing!
Well, things were going so well, I just went ahead and asked.
And?
And now...to set a date! Maybe tomorrow at sunset, or...
Not so fast, young lady. You haven't thrown a wish for marrying him yet.
Pfft, you and your rules.

Now, the waiting starts....will Esme take weeks to finally pop the 5k wish? Will they have a sunset service? All will be revealed in the next chapter!

Chapter 3: Till Death do us Part

After proposing, I set back and prepared myself for a long wait. However, Esme had other ideas.
Never put off for tomorrow what you can wish for today!
Thanks, Esme. After 1 day's wait, she popped the wish to marry Mason.

Indoors. Sigh. What about the twilight wedding I had planned?
My wedding, my choice. We did go outside afterwards, though.

To celebrate outside the kitchen garden. Not exactly romantic, Esme.
Pfft for romance!
Well, then. What will we do concerning Mason's witchiness?
Hmm....I've heard of some type of experimentation in the local science station that removes one's occult state. I'll ask Mason if he's interested.

Mason: Remove my witch-powers? Sound's interesting! Sure, I'll try the experiment for you, Es.

After an interesting, though strangely depressing journey to the science facility, Mason decided he needed a break from the Valley.
He had always wanted to visit the alluring land of Al Simhara. Esme, having another three skill challenges and two 5k wishes to complete,
decided to stay behind.

Upon arrival, Mason decided to go exploring.

Mason: What's this? Those strange symbols seems....odd. Dangerous, somehow. Wander what'll happen if I take a peak inside?

Mason: Oooer. What's happening to me?!

Dizzy and disorientated by his encounter with the Tomb's guardian, Mason decided to return home.

Deciding he needed a clean break from the past, Mason redid his wardrobe.
Mason: That feels better! Though I have this itchy feeling that something is creeping up on me...

Meanwhile, Esme was making great progress on her various tasks.

Tis hard work, this Legacy thingy!
Too true, Esme. Too true.

Now, was that nice?
Esme (with a cruel chuckle): Just letting these townsfolk know what'll happen should they ever try to cross me.
Oh dear. What am I to do with you?

The days passed as Esme waited for Mason to succumb to his strange curse. She completed all her tasks and began accumulating money to furnish her enlarged home.

Esme: What's happening?!
Mason: Wheet!

Mason: Welcome to Adulthood, sweetling!

They had scarcely finished the birthday celebrations - which, frankly, had taken me completely by surprise! - when....

Mason: Noooooooo!!

Oi, Bonehilda, what do you think you're doing?!
Esme: Mason! Where are you?
In the green bag, girl.
Esme: You can be singularly weird, do you know that?

Poor Esme took Mason's death hard. Luckily, I had everything in hand.
What do you mean? He's dead!
Yes, he was supposed to.
You LET him die?!
Calm down, Esme. You'll see him again. He'll still be death, though.
Dead is dead. I'll get you back for this, just you wait. *mutter, mutter*
What was that?
Never you mind. Just you wait!!
Sigh. Founders. So over-emotional.
I heard that!

In between berating me, Esme took some time to greet DEATH. He has had some interesting encounters with various Weatherwaxes,
and spent several minutes conversing with the young Esme before leaving for the Netherworld.

After almost a week and a half of waiting, harvesting wild-flowers, waiting, gardening, and waiting some more, Esme finally got the Oh My Ghost opportunity.

Mason: Coo-ee! I'm baaaaack.
Esme: You're see through!!
That's because he's a ghost.
Esme: What?!

With all that waiting around, Esme was ready for some relaxing with her returned and newly re-married husband.

Mason: What's that sound?
Esme: A type of chime, I think. Strange.
Chimes equals nooboos, Esme.
Esme: Oh no.
Oh yes!

Esme (whispers): Do you think we did?

Such a unique first spouse life state! I'll be reading this from now :) Just for future reference, don't know if you have other ghostly plans, but the Philosopher's Stone LTR can bind a ghost right away (provided you have the points for it, of course!)

Good luck!

Chapter 4: A Promise Fulfilled

Authors Note: I just noticed I forgot to include a shot of Esme's Mausoleum pieces! So, here it is:

And their new, expanded house:

The kitchen garden, complete with three frozen dragon guardians.

After several days of waiting, and unexpected urges to visit the 'little room', Esme made a discovery.

Esme: Aww! Nooboo.
Bonehilda: A munchkin!
Esme: No eating my nooboos, Bonehilda!

While Esme rocks to her inner musings, please feel free to inspect their new kitchen-cum-dining room.

Esme: Great-great Granny Esme's old timekeeper. With the new nursery just through that barricaded door.

Mason: What was this? Es, did you try cooking again?
Esme: Nope. Not allowed to, remember?

Mason: Feels bumpy and squishy.
Esme: Mason!!

Esme: Ooooh. Relaxation is a cure to all ills.

Esme: What's happening to me?! Something wants out!
Relax, Esme. It's normal.
Esme: Then normal really hurts!!
Hurry up. I want to see if it's the next heir.
Esme: Remember that promise I made last chapter?
Vaguely. What of it?

Esme: Payback time! Welcome, little Ron Weatherwax - a witch!! Mwahahahah.
Oh, you wicked thing you!
Esme: *snickers*

After a quick age up. He's got his mother's eyes and hair colour. Would have made a perfect heir! Oh, well.

Mason, not concerned with heirs and bickering, was enchanted with his little man.

The walker is a great way to entertain toddlers. Plus, it's so cute watching them roam about in it!

Esme: Oh, no. Not again.
Ron: Thoothoo. Wham!

Mason: And so, they cast her out, to burn forever more in the desert sun.
Ron: Scawy stowy, dada! More!

Mason: Yes! New nooboos!!
Esme: And here it comes....

Chapter 5: Triplet Chaos

After puffing and panting for what seemed like days, Esme felt the first twinkles...

Esme: Hello, little Diamanda!
Witch (Easily Impressed, Genius). So, another non-heir. Sigh. Maybe baby #2?

Esme: Nope! Another little Witchiraeboo! Called...Lillith!
And her traits are Light Sleeper and Brave.

And then....

Welcome, Bethan! Heir apparent and ghostly beautiful. Her traits are Grump and Loves the Heat.

While his troop of sisters were being born and gurgled over, Ron aged up to child.

And Diamanda aged up to toddler.

As did Lillith.

Little Bethan seems to require quite as much attention as her mom, crying whenever she's left alone in her room.

Both Mason and Esme are wonderful caregivers, enjoying the uniqueness of their fourth child.

Whenever Bethan slept, Esme and Mason taught the other two girls all their necessities - talking, walking and potty.
Then, it was time again for a birthday!

As a teen, Ron looks more and more like his mother.

Bethan, tiring of all the attention given to her older siblings, was finally allowed to come before The Cake.

There's a cool aspect of playing with ghosts that I just discovered - this being my first time to do so - the
colouring of the clothes do not mater, only the 'shape and style'! Makes life much easier, I must say.

Bethan: And that's all, folks!
Um, no not yet. Both your sisters aged up to child.

Diamanda: What synonym works best instead of 'inspirational'?
Lillith: Hush, I want to watch my show!

Chapter 6: Bethan Weatherwax (Heir #2)

**Special Author's note: Due to the fact that I am leaving on Friday for a two week holiday without internet access, or even access to my computer, I'm going to 'condense' the following few chapters. This is so that: 1) I'll know where I left off when I get back, as I'll update to where I am currently on the file; and 2) that everyone will have sufficient Weatherwax goodness to last them until I get back!  ;)**

Firstly, after a long wait, Esme finally got her Age Freeze potion (on the day of her Elder birthday, no less!)

Then Ron aged up to YA, and left home to pursue his growing interest in Science.

Diamanda and Lillith was also due a visit to the cake and aged up to teen...

And then to YA.

Bethan, the clever girl that she is, diligently kept up her peg box and xylophone playing until she maxed them both.
And was then directly taken to the cake.

She ages up to a very pretty little lady. And rolled the Heavy Sleeper trait.

Mason makes sure she has an A before going to school the next day.

Shortly afterwards, Jai decided to come out and play for the first time.

Bethan spent the next few days either playing with Jai, going to school, or practising her cooking skills.

The day after she achieved her spot on the Honour Roll, Bethan received the "When Dreams Come True" opportunity.
Thank goodness Esme had held out for the Collection Helper!! All tasks completed, Bethan found herself in front of
the cake again.

She got the Snob trait this time round. Hmm.....what will we do with her, Esme?
Roll again?
Nope, can't do that. We'll just have to make it work somehow.

Mason stepped in, again, with a bit of tutoring.

And Esme took her for her Driving Lessons....on a broom?! She got all the levels needed, just never used than
new - and expensive - car that Mason had bought her.

Bethan had to wait for the next morning to get her new job, thanks to her mother's eccentric teaching methods.

She sailed through the next few days with little stress, being promoted to level 3 in her career in 4 days and making
the Honour Roll in three days. She kissed Roy Beckwith for the first time, and chose him as her Romantic Interest, even
though she had her eyes on a very different being altogether....

Bethan makes a very striking figure, all dressed up in her new YA outfit! Oh, and she rolled the Natural Cook trait...what an
interesting mix!

Her elder dad looks very proud at her graduation, as he well might.

As soon as she came home, Bethan ghosted over to her best friend, Jai, and offered him a special drink.

After a bit of tweaking and tucking....

Doesn't he look charming?

Deciding to make use of her mother's skill in the garden, Bethan took up cooking and nectar making as her two allotted skills.

Listening to some cool tunes, Bethan stomped grapes, pomegranates, life fruit and many other types of produce in-between
cooking, reading recipes and all the other lovely stuff of maxing skills.

After a few weeks, Bethan was ready to rest...she had completed all her tasks! Now, to the fun stuff....

Her first kiss with Jai...

Proposing over the stray cat's growling warning of a ghost nearby...

And getting married in front of all the empty Mausoleum rooms awaiting future heirs...

Last, but not least, Bethan's room. Can you guess what her favourite colour is? It's important!

Great update and congrats on the marriage. I think IFs are not scared from ghost. Despite the stray cat's warnings, he keep interacting and finally end up marrying her. Anyhow, all thay have to do now is to produce the IF heir.
