Awesome! Also bookmarking this. It's great to see Deirdra scheming people into dynasties again! And wow, Sam was such a cute teen. I think that rebel look and hair dye looks cool on him.

Well, with that great background stories, I can't wait to read more about their life together. Bookmarked.  :D

Thank you  :).  I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

I didn't guess it at all.

Thanks.  I hope so :)

Awesome! Also bookmarking this. It's great to see Deirdra scheming people into dynasties again! And wow, Sam was such a cute teen. I think that rebel look and hair dye looks cool on him.

Deirdra's too good a character to disappear after one story :).  I was thinking of using one of her kids as a founder but they're all genies or IFs, so weren't allowed.

Thank you :).  I was very tempted to keep the green hair for Sam but it didn't fit the story.  He's grown up well, I think (especially considering his ancestry!)  Although you're right, he was probably at his best as a teen.  I liked his rebel look, too.  He also had a bright green motorbike, although it didn't make it into the final screenshots.

Oh so cool that Sam gets to live out his life in this dynasty!! Is Sophia from a previous story, too, hazelnut?

Sophia isn't from a story, exactly, since I lost almost all of the screenshots and so just wrote a summary.  She's the final heir from my DecaDynasty.  I had vaguely been planning to use Sophia or Sam in another game at some point and then, soon after this dynasty was announced, I realised that they had a couple of traits in common and might make a good pair.  So I cloned them, made them both young adults and plonked them down on the dynasty lot in Riverview to see what happened.  Sophia was pregnant by lunchtime and 'Try For Baby' was the only direction I gave them  :o.  The versions in this game are slightly different but they're still very much attracted to each other.

A Grim Proposition

“Aunt Deirdra, where are we?  It’s a wasteland.  No plants, no water…”

“I can’t see the stars.  If I could recognise the constellations, I’d know where we are.  But there are no stars at all.

“What are you playing at, genie?”

“I don’t think we’re in the real world at all.  I think Aunt Deirdra’s brought us to his world.”

“Oh, sorry, I should’ve introduced myself.  I’m Sophia Silverman.  And you are…?”
“Sam.”
“Well, ‘Sam’.  I wish I could say I’m pleased to meet you but if you’re that genie’s nephew, you’re probably as much to blame as she is.  And who is he?  The one who possibly owns this place.  And, most important, how can I get out of here?”
“I don’t know.  I’ve only just arrived, too – and Deirdra’s an old family friend, not my real aunt.  But as for him – look over there.”

“The Grim Reaper!  Are we dead?”
“No, you’re still alive.  I just asked Deirdra to bring you both over to my place.  I get tired of chasing around after you humans.”
“But why did you ask her to bring us?”

“Because you’re the last in your lines.  Born to wealth and luxury, with ancestors who worked hard to get to where you are today.  Then you both mess up as soon as you’re free to do what you want.  OK, you’ve both had a rough deal in your different ways.  Where did I put my hankie?  But that’s no excuse.  You need to pull yourselves together...  So I’m offering you another chance.  Start your own dynasty – see what it’s like at the other end of the line.  You won’t have time to be bored or depressed, I can tell you that.  And, just to keep things interesting, your family will have to start again from nothing at regular intervals.  Let’s say, every fourth generation.  Maybe that’ll stop them from getting complacent.

“Samuel, since I owe the Gooles a favour or two, I’ll let you start in Hidden Springs, where you feel comfortable.  I’ve rewound time there to the day before you arrived.  No-one’s even heard of Louisa...  And before, you ask, no, you won’t meet your younger self.  I’ll switch you on to a different track – although you might want to avoid your childhood friends for a while, until you get used to the idea that they’re now considerably younger than you and haven’t the faintest idea who you are.”

“Rewinding time?  And creating a parallel universe?  You can do that?”
“Oh, manipulating time and space is quite simple really… which brings me to my next point.  You both know how these things work.  Your families have been there before: challenges, collections, la la la...  Same old same old.  It’s just too easy, isn’t it?

“So this time, you have to work faster.  I’m repossessing part of your lives.  Call it a perk.  I’ve indulged you lot for long enough.  You’re going to be living in the fast lane now…  I’ll leave you to talk it over for a while, shall I?”
“Wait a minute!  What did you mean…?  Oh, he’s gone.  Sam, do you know what he meant about ‘Louisa’?  The only Louisa I can think of is…”

“The singer, yeah.  She’s my mum.”
“Really?  Annals is my all-time favourite album.  Wait a minute; didn’t she say in an interview that it was based on fact?  I thought she must have been on the herbs.”

“Mum doesn’t do herbs.  Yes, it’s the story of my family.  You see…”

*   *   *   *   *

“…And you were the little boy at the end.  That song’s so sad.”

“Yes, I’m Poison Boy.  She didn’t want to put it on the album but I told her she had to.  The song was too good to leave out.  And it is part of the story.”
“And I was feeling sorry for myself.  You poor thing.  I think you were very brave to let her go ahead – but the song does have a happy ending.”
“Yes, it did, for a while.  Maybe they're right.  Maybe I do need to sort myself out...  Anyway, that’s my story.  What about yours?  Grim implied that your family goes back a long way.  Did one of your ancestors make a bargain with him, too?”

“I don’t know about that – although there is a story that my many-greats-grandfather Hank shook hands with the Reaper at the end and seemed happy to go, so maybe there was something going on.  All I know is that it was a condition of his will that the firstborn child of every generation had to complete certain tasks before they were given the cash to get married and set up in their own home.  I’m the tenth generation – or the eleventh if you count Hank and Pauline – and once I’d completed my tasks we were supposed to be free to do what we wanted.  Except that I never seemed to get around to it.”
“I’m beginning to see why they brought us together like this.  We have so much in common – and you even have experience of completing tasks.  You really know how it works.  All I had to do was be born…

“So what do you think?  Go for it?  A fresh start – but with someone you’ve only just met?”

“I don’t know.

"I like the idea of starting again but as you say, we don’t know each other at all – and if this is anything like the rules my family had to live by, we’d have to have a child almost immediately.  There wouldn’t be much time for courtship.”

“Um, no.  I hadn’t really thought of that.  I’ve never even had a girlfriend before, never mind anything really serious.  What about you?”

“I was engaged once but we drifted apart.  I was too busy with my job, he said.  I didn’t make enough time for him…  He was probably right.  That’s something I’d do differently if I had another chance.”

*   *   *   *   *

“Well, have you decided?  I have three other couples lined up, keen to do this if you don’t want to – or to take over if you mess this up as well.”
“Yes, we’ll try – together.”

“Come on then.  There are a few details to sort out; terms and conditions, that sort of stuff.  Nothing unfamiliar.  Then we’ll get you both to CAS.  You could really use makeovers.”
“Who’s Cass?  Is she a stylist?”

“No, dear.  CAS is a place.  A place where we can make some changes.  I think you should be young again, Sophia – give you a better chance.  You can both have personality tweaks if you like.  And, of course, you’ll need to have your skills removed.”
“You’re going to erase our memories like you did to Grandmamma Ana?  We won’t remember any of this – or our previous lives?  I never knew her but everyone says Grandmamma was a bit odd: absent-minded and, well, eccentric, I suppose.  Grandpa Joe always reckoned that was why.”
“Oops, yes.  I’m really sorry about that.  I always was clumsy.  Fortunately, things have moved on since then.  It’s not all about spells these days.  Genie scientists have revolutionised the mind-wiping business.  You’ll lose your skills but remember your previous lives and families.  It’s just that you’ll be unable to talk about them except to each other.”
“Oh yes, our families.  What about them?  We never even said goodbye!”
“We’ll arrange for them to watch what you’re doing – but you can’t communicate. As you know, Samuel, the Gooles are effectively immortal, if they want to be.  I can arrange for the same treatments to be available to your family, Sophia.  If you make it to... ooh, let’s say… sixteen generations of descendants, you can be revived and we’ll have a big reunion.  Maybe even a party.”
Sixteen generations?  No, seventeen?"
“Yes, well, I don’t want to make this easy for you.  I’m not the Big Softie Reaper, you know…  "
"And what did you mean by 'revived'?”
“Oh, did I forget that part?  You'll have to die so that your descendants can complete their tasks.  Just think of it as getting to experience all that life offers.  So, are you still up for this?  Or should we call in the reserves?”
“I am, I think.  Are you, Sam?”
“Yes.  My old life wasn't going anywhere.  I needed a change.  Can’t get a much bigger one than this.”
“OK, then.  Let’s go!”

Sorry for the slow reply, folks.  We've been internetless for the past ten days.

saltpastillen, I was just glancing through to remind myself how much of the story I'd posted and realised I hadn't replied to your earlier comment:

lol, you crack me up!

Can't wait to read more hazelnut  :)

Thanks.  It was read and appreciated at the time.  I just somehow skipped past it when I was replying.  (Probably too busy being cracked up by ratchie :).)

Awesome just awesome.

Thank you  ;D.

Thanks.  Given that it's a dynasty, you can probably guess a lot of what's going to happen next...  ;)

Epic! I absolutely loved the intro.

(For the record, I knew who the founders were right away! Hehe. So exciting!)

Thank you.  And congratulations on identifying both so quickly :).

Thank you.  The DecaDynasty's not really a story, more of a record of how I played the challenge.  Because of computer problems, I kept everything very simple, so there wasn't much to write a story about - although most of the Sims do seem to have made a definite impression on me as characters (which is why I wanted to give Sophia a chance to live a full life at last).

And welcome to the forum.

Starting A New Line

“So, here we are.  Just us, a bin and a postbox.”
“And a great view, sunshine, the smell of pine trees…  No, not much, is it?  What do you think we should do first?”
“Well, um, there was that business about having to have a baby in the next few days.  Do you think we should maybe… get to know one another better?”

“Well, yes, I do… and I’d love to spend the day chatting – but I think other things are more urgent.  We don’t have much money.”

“And Deirdra said we had to own the whole town within four generations.  That’s going to take a lot of cash.”

“We’ll need help, too.  If we can’t become too expert in any skill we want our descendants to master, we won’t get far on our own.

“I think we should go out and talk to people; make a few friends.  I have a couple of ideas…”

*   *   *   *   *

Sophia was nervous.  Her first day in a new town and now she was on her own.  True, she’d had plenty of friends back home in Sunset Valley and had thought nothing of meeting new people, but now that she’d lost all of her skills, her confidence seemed to have gone with them.  Still, Sam had told her how to approach this.  She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

It was strange meeting another doctor but being unable to drop into professional jargon, unable even to admit that she’d been a surgeon herself until yesterday.  She must be coming over as some kind of mad enthusiast – a hypochondriac, maybe.

This woman must think she was crazy.  Although, from what Sam had said, Emmaline Rhoen wasn’t too stable herself.  Thank goodness the SMJ had had that article last month about Hidden Springs and its unconventional treatments.  She could at least make some sensible comparisons between established therapies and those used by Dr – no, Sam said she preferred ‘Healer’ – Rhoen.

*   *   *   *   *

Sam’s task was easier – or, at least, it was easier once he’d managed to track down his chosen targets.  He’d often heard Mr Riverhawk discussing gardening and the joys of the great outdoors with Grandpa Joe.  All he had to do was remember that he and Mr – no, Nick – Riverhawk were much the same age now.  Once he’d got over that hurdle, everything was straightforward.

*   *   *   *   *

As the afternoon softened into evening, Sam and Sophia arrived back home with their new friends…

…and, shortly afterwards, they were a household of six.

Their new place might be a little – well, completely – lacking in amenities and an inconveniently long way from the centre of town but it was right next door to somewhere much more luxurious.  Somewhere with soft beds, comfortable chairs, a good TV and games.  All six of them trooped over to spend the first of many nights at Redwood Lodge.

*   *   *   *   *

The next morning, Sam found Sophia out on the balcony.

“Good morning, Sam.  I can see why you love this place.  The view’s beautiful.”
“Yes, it is.  Very beautiful.”

“You’re not even looking at it…  Oh.  Thank you.”
“You look lovely, Sophia.  That top really suits you.”
“What, this old thing?  No, sorry, I really have had it ages but Deirdra did something to make it look like new again.  She didn’t like my jumper, for some reason.  And she hated the trousers I used to wear with this blouse.  Said they were too baggy.  She bullied me into these skinny jeans.  She said… um…”
“That you’ve got nice legs and ought to show them off?  She was right.”
“Well, actually, she was talking about my bum.  Is she always that… direct?”

“Oh, yes.  For someone who wears the world’s silliest work uniform, she has pretty strong opinions about fashion.  She told me I looked like a history teacher and needed sexing up a bit.”
“You look… very… nice, Sam.  Did you get the tattoo in CAS, too?”
“No, I’ve had it… them… for a while.  Signs of a misspent youth.  Aunt Deirdra just insisted I should stop covering them up.

“Sophia?”
“Yes?”
“You know what you were saying yesterday… about getting to know each other better?  Do you think now would be a good time?”

*   *   *   *   *

“This probably sounds silly, given our situation, but.. er… would you like to go out with me?  Be my girlfriend?”

“I’d love to be your girlfriend… although I don’t think we need to go anywhere.  Here’s perfect.”

“Sam… you know the other thing I said yesterday?  Do you think now would be a good time for that, too?”
“Already?  Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure. “

Next chapter

The versions of Sam and Sophia that I’ve ended up with in this game are slightly different from the originals.

Sam’s original skintone was on the green slider.  He’s now been moved on to the rainbow slider.  His appearance is unchanged otherwise, although his traits have changed slightly.  He’s kept his love of the outdoors and is still a genius but his good trait has been replaced with ambitious (no surprise whatsoever, in this dynasty :) ).  His remaining traits are virtuoso, which came close to being a family trait for the Gooles,  and friendly.

Sophia’s hair has been reddened slightly.  They both started out with greenish-brown hair, although Sam’s is a darker shade.  I left his as it was because it suits his skin.  Oddly, they also have similar eye colours.  Sophia started out by keeping her original skin colour but I eventually shifted her on to the pastel rainbow slider (yes, I really want rainboos!)  She’s also had her good trait replaced with ambitious.  She’s still a genius and bookworm but has swapped her heavy sleeper and lucky traits for born saleswoman and charismatic.

*Joins in with the amazement*  ;D

Their little romance is so adorably awkward. You gotta love Dierdra's scheming them into some better outfits to help move things along. Emmaline looks like she has some great genes to pass on to future kids too.

That shot of Sophia talking about a baby's bottle and looking embarrassed was entirely spontaneous (and only a few minutes into the game), so I just had to go along with the awkwardness.

I've acquired a lot of expansions and store content since Sophia got her first wardrobe, so a makeover was long overdue.  Her other outfits were really boring.

Emmaline is a very unusual-looking Sim.  I don't know how EA managed it but even her neutral expression is a mad stare :).  She's mostly there as a helper - the instant LTW and maxed cooking skill are very useful, as is her pay from being well through the medical career.  I've been extending her life with makeovers, so she may get a chance to pass on her genes.

Anyway, I am loving this story so far. I think they're both adorable in personality and looks and yes, I'm trying to make you blush again ;) Who are the other two in the household of six? Did Nick bring his whole household then?

Thank you :D.  Yes, the other two are Nicholas' housemates: Cassidy Earthsong, who has another set of very interesting genes, and Jessica Willow.

A Baby and a Wedding

Sam and Sophia spent most of the day at the library.  The others joined them when they weren’t at work.

Nick started a garden.

Jess fished.

Sam bought a guitar and began learning to play it.

They all spent some time searching through skips, hoping to find something valuable and/or useful.  No such luck.  They just ended up nauseated and smelly.

Sophia wanted to read every skill book in the library.  So it was no surprise that she was there when she realised that it wasn’t just the dumpster diving that had been making her sick.

With the money that the Free Spirits had brought into the household, they’d bought their first property, Meadow Beach, and had turned it into a children’s playground.

“Might as well do something useful with it,” said Jess.  “What’s the point of a fishing spot with no water?”

Their own home was still a bare plot of land but now they decided it might be time to start building.  Redwood Heights was great for sleeping, bathing and entertainment but Emmaline wanted somewhere to cook.  They were all getting fed up of eating quick meals outdoors.

Besides, the Lodge had no facilities for babies.  A small house would solve all of their problems.

Really, it was more of a hut than a house but it was a start.

*   *   *   *   *

A couple of days later, Sophia’s studies were interrupted again.  She phoned Sam and headed for the hospital.  Their son was born a few hours later.

Emmaline, who’d been on call since before dawn, was hoping to get a lift home with them but the besotted new parents didn’t even notice she was there.

After snuggles and a feed, the baby was popped into his cot to sleep while Nick kept an eye on him.  Sam and Sophia had business elsewhere.

“Sophia Silverman, will you do me the very great honour of becoming my wife?”

“Oh Sam, you idiot.  Get up off the grass.  You’ll ruin your suit.  I thought we were just going to have a simple, no-fuss wedding.”
“Yeah, that’ll be why you’re wearing a simple no-fuss dress, then.”
“That was Deirdra’s doing.  You know how bossy she is.  She said I had to have a fancy big dress in case you decided to make an honest woman of me.  In fact, this is my only formal outfit.  I’ve been terrified I’d be invited to a posh party and have to turn up in a wedding dress.  Anyway, please stand up.  Of course I’ll marry you.  You already knew that – and it’s not as though we can afford an engagement ring.”

“Surprise!”

“Where did that come from?”
“Deirdra gave me a load of special genie rings to pass on down the family.  They’re invisible to the untrained eye, except when they’re needed.”
“Very Lord of the Rings.”
“What?”
“It’s a book.  Didn’t you have it in your world?  I’ll explain later, when we have more time.  A lot more time.  It’d be nice to get married before dark.”

“Soph, have you thought about names?”
“Have you changed your mind?  I thought we’d agreed that Adam was perfect for the first child in a new family.”
“No, I didn’t mean him, I meant us.  Well, Adam too, I suppose.  Which surname are we using?”
“All the women in my family took their husbands’ names on marriage.  We’re an old-fashioned lot.  I think I’d like to do something different, though.  Maybe combine our names – although Silverman-Goole sounds a bit cumbersome.”
“I’d like a change, too.  Something to mark the start of a new dynasty.  Maybe we should choose a new name.  After all, that’s what Grandmamma Ana did when she moved to Twinbrook.”
“Oh!  I’ve just had an idea.  It sounds quite like your name and the meaning’s similar to mine – and it really suits Adam.”

So Sophia Silverman and Samuel Goole became Mr and Mrs Gold.

Cassidy had offered to take the night shift in the kitchen/nursery, so as the sun set over the lake, the newlyweds went next door for a romantic wedding night at the Lodge.

Next chapter

By the way, I discovered during their wedding night that Sims get a ‘WooHoo off the home lot’ moodlet from the showers at the Lodge but not from the beds.  How odd.  I think those showers may see quite a lot of use  ;).

Oh how lovely! Gold immediately made me think of Once Upon a Time. I loved the wedding and the new surname is perfect! And Adam is just darling! A little gold rainboo, how sweet. :))

It's funny: I'd decided on either Gold or Gould as the surname even before the challenge went live and then Adam popped out with skin to match :).

Welcome baby Adam! I bet he'll be a cutie  ;)

He grows up with distinctly Goole-ish looks, although not at all bad-looking - oddly, he seems to look more like some of the earlier Gooles than Sam does, which I didn't think was possible in a different game  ???.  Maybe it's just his colouring.

Hidden Springs is beautiful.  One of the reasons I'm playing this game relatively slowly is that I keep stopping to gawp at the scenery.  The view from their lot is amazing.

Wonderful update! I have to agree with the others: both the new name and the little baby boy are perfect.  :D

"Oh Sam, you idiot.  Get up off the grass.  You’ll ruin your suit."

I got a big laugh out of this! Hehehe. I just love how adorable and practical their story is. And magical genie rings? That's as good as any explanation I've heard! Also: goldboo, huzzah!

Well, given how lush the grass is in Hidden Springs, you'd have to be daft to kneel on it wearing light-coloured trousers  ;).

Play It Again, Sam

The next morning, they were all up early.  It was going to be a busy day – although Sophia still took some time out to admire her disappearing jewellery.

Since Cassidy had been on baby-minding duty all night, it was probably only fair that she was the one who took Adam to his first cake.

He grew up into a cute toddler who definitely took after his father.

While everyone except Adam finished eating his cake, Sophia went out to collect the post.  A package had arrived by airmail.

“Sam, do you know a Riley?  A parcel’s arrived.  I thought it’d be from Deirdra, because she said something about trying to send help, but it seems to be a present for Adam from ‘Uncle Riley’.  There’s no-one of that name in my family.”

“Riley?  Trust him to find a way round the restrictions!  He’s Deirdra’s brother-in-law – and an imaginary friend.”
“An imaginary friend?  Come on, Sam.  Imaginary friends don’t really exist.  They’re just, you know, imaginary.  The clue’s in the name, really.”
“They may not have existed in your world but they did in mine – and it appears they do here, as well.  I bet that present turns out to be a funny-looking doll.  You see, it works like this…”

*   *   *   *   *

Adam loved his new toy but didn’t get much time to play with it.  Succeeding in life was more important, so Sophia started teaching him to talk.

Sam took his guitar off into one of the bedrooms to practise.  He hadn’t quite reached the stage of being pleasant to listen to.  In fact, Jess described his playing as ‘unbearable’.

After lunch, Sophia taught Adam to walk.

Both of them were tired by evening, so they had an early night.  Sam, who’d sneaked a nap earlier, stayed up and kept an ear out for the baby – when he wasn’t playing his guitar.

The next day, Sophia took her son to the library, trying to pass on her love of books.

Sam played for tips outside the theatre.

*   *   *   *   *

Life wasn’t all toddler skills and guitar.  The house might still be tiny but the garden was expanding rapidly.

Emmaline and Cassidy were progressing through the medical career and Nick had switched from journalism to cooking.  He was still very junior but his natural talent was beginning to shine through.

There were other developments, too.  Cassidy and Nick were no longer just friends.

Shortly before Adam’s second birthday, they realised there was going to be another addition to the household.

This time, Sophia helped Adam to blow out his candles.

Sam was out, playing for tips in Subalpine Square.

Sophia showed Adam the inexplicably well-stocked dressers at the Lodge and let him pick out some clothes he liked.

Then Emmaline came home from work and took him off for tutoring.  It was vital to get a head start on his schoolwork.  Or so all the adults insisted.

Cassidy spent a large proportion of her pregnancy with Sophia at the library, working on her charisma skill…

...but towards the end, she felt too ungainly to bother going out and just listened to Sam performing Two Steps at a Time.
“More like Two Hundred Steps at a Time,” muttered Jess, driven to distraction by Sam’s efforts to get that phrase to come out the way it sounded in his head.

Cassidy went into labour while watching Sam and, soon after, Ivy Riverhawk made her appearance…

..and Jess, sick of lovey-dovey couples, crying babies and, above all, the constant guitar practice, moved out.

Next chapter

The game really did say that Adam’s IF doll had been sent by ‘Uncle Riley’.  I don’t remember seeing that particular version of the pop-up before.  Such a neat coincidence had to become part of the story :).
