I've been caught up in RL events a lot of late, I'm glad the Sims 3 challenges are still being followed up on. I was looking forward to another attempt at one. Are there any more stories people have started?

I'm trying to complete skill challenges for riding and it seems the horse best friend challenge is bugged.  My sim is best friends with the horse he has right now and has been best friends with seven others, but the "Horse Best Friends" counter in the skill journal says he has zero horse best friends.  He has completed all other challenges for the riding skill.  Can anyone who has supermaxed riding confirm whether this is a bugged challenge?

@farbe: I've never heard of that bug! Can you get a screenshot of your sim's friends panel plus the buggy skill journal? I believe you but I also want some proof. Bureaucracy is fun. :P

Hello! Old old member back with a question. I'm on the verge of failing my attempt because my founder hasn't got enough opportunities. She just turned elder and only has three which are the omni plant chain which took a long time to complete. She has the gardening career maxed and supermaxed gardening with a few other points in cooking and fishing. Is there any hope of triggering more opportunities in time or is there virtually no hope for three more before she dies?

@alex51299: First, do you have ITF installed or not? Because I would be careful with using backup opportunities because of the ITF skill op bugs. And I have no idea what other ops you have installed.

But anyways...

1. Have a stint as a Private Investigator, as the PI jobs count as career ops. You only need to do two and it can still leave plenty of room for another heir to do the job.

2. If your second generation is a young adult, make use of your university welcome kit/buy one and trigger the "Go to University" op (it's a special op and counts). If you take that option, your founder could and should go into science/medicine, as that major sometimes triggers career ops of its own. But please check every op because a lot of University ops are "social" and don't count.

3. Look around town for community events like Neighborhood Grill-a-Thon, as those take up the special op slot.

4. Join a rabbithole career that isn't planned for another immortal. As a bonus, she'll have something to do after immortality with it.

I can't say anything's guaranteed, even with those, but it's all worth a shot. Break a leg!

Thanks so much Trip! I do not have ITF installed and I never even thought of a temporary job. I'll test it out!

Edit: worked like a charm and I now have my first ever immortal! Thanks again!

@alex51299: I'm happy. :D

Gardening is usually good for ops, so I don't know what happened in your case. Hope it's just a one-time thing.

Which neighbourhood are you playing in @alex51299 ? Just wondering here if there might be some neighbourhoods that gardening ops don't fire as well when compared to others.

@Trip @Deklitch Thank you both! I'm in Sunset Valley. Ironically, it was only after the ambrosia was eaten that the gardening opportunities started rolling in.  ::) Go figure.

Help!  My gen 8 heir seems to be terminally bugged.  He's a day from elder and not getting any opportunities (well, none apart from celebrity ones that have already been claimed).  I put him into the investigator career and he got one case, then was offered that non-case to study at home.  Since turning that one down for the third time, he's not getting anything at all.  He goes into the police station or uses the computer but just runs through the animation without any case appearing.  Restarting the game makes no difference.  I'm begining to consider drastic action like a factory reset and/or going back to an earlier save.  Any ideas?

@hazelnut: Try the factory reset...though I guess you can't do a "true" one because you'd have to reinstall Monte Vista to get back in.

I did  manage to do a true reset, by starting a new game in Monte Vista and then copying across the two world package files from the old folder.  It worked fine: family tree, friends, property ownership all intact.  Unfortunately, Tyrone's opportunity repellent also transferred across.  I've tried testing earlier saves and the one immediately after his adult birthday appears to be unaffected, so far at least.  Can I try replaying from there?

Team, I'm having an issue with my file - My Gen 3 has lost a trait, and I don't remember which one she had. I suspect it was Ambitious, but I'm not 100% clear, because it was a side-trait she didn't need. Since I'm not sure which trait it was, how should I proceed? I haven't been keeping backups so I can't revert to one.

@Seabody: It sounds like a pretty minor issue. Add in whatever was the most likely trait.

Hello, this is my first attempt at any challenge, and I am kinda new to Sims in general. How do I get a portrait done of my Sim? It's nearing the time where I need to get one, but I don't know how

@Tomethius: First, you need a painter who has at least a level 7 painting skill.

If you have that, you direct them to an easel, and use the "Paint a Portrait of..." interaction with your immortal-to-be as the desired target. Don't fall into the pit-trap of using the "Paint Still-Life" option and getting your sim in the frame. Not the same, and not eligible.

@Trip Well, I guess this first run is a wash, then. Either that, or I need to find a lvl 7 painter in 1.3 days... :'(

Sounds like it is time to start looking up all the residents of my town, then
EDIT: Found the best-case individual. An Agnes Crumplebottom. Too bad she is unemployed, and I haven't ever seen her. Sigh

@Tomethius: Agnes is everybody's best bet in Sunset Valley for a painter. She's well-loved and even more used for that and her riches.

I know the feeling of failing from portraits. It happened to new once before. But never let failure get to you either. Just take a breath and start again!

@Tomethius: Yes. When your mother is pregnant, she should eat apples for a boy and watermelons for a girl. There's a lot of differing opinions on how much fruit the mother should eat, but I do at least twenty of what I need. Just queue it up! Enough fruit can replace meals. ;)

Also, meals made with certain fruits (like apple pancakes or apple cobbler) should have no bearing on the baby's sex, but you can never be too careful.

Watermellons and apples...why those fruit in particular is a question I have, but one that I probably won't ever learn. But they make about as much sense as other urban legends.

So my Generation 2 heir is a young adult. He managed to reach level 10 painting and inventing skills as a teen, and level 8 or 9 sculpting skill as a teen. Since becoming a young adult, he maxed and supermaxed his sculpting skill. He has received one painting skill opportunity (deliver a painting to China) and 2 school opportunities (stinky bugs, and Precious Metals Scavenger Hunt) but no sculpting opportunities. Somehow, he has picked up celebrity stars (at school, I think) and so almost every second hour he gets offered a celebrity opportunity. I'm desperately wanting sculpting opportunities for him.

I've decided to accept a celebrity opportunity so they don't keep on popping up on me. Is that likely to encourage skill based opportunities to be offered?

I suppose I can always turn to a rabbit hole career and get the opportunities that way. Business has lots of opportunities, doesn't it? However, I really want sculpting skill opportunities?

Anything legal I can do to try to encourage sculpting skill based opportunities?

PS I have checked and suppress opportunities is not selected. I have also recently cleared caches and so forth. Generation 3 is currently in the tummy of Generation 2's wife, and Generation 2 is a week off becoming an adult, so I have time.

Dek

@Tomethius Apples - the thing in the throat called Adam's Apple. Watermelon - there is a comment (if you have memories turned on) about something like that baby being the size of a watermelon. I wonder if it has something to do with that.
