I'm kinda confused about the best friends. In each scenario, could I count them or could I not?

Scenario 1: Immortal 1 is best friends with Sim 1. Sim 2 is best friends with Sim 1. Could Immortal 1 count Sim 1 as a best friend?
Scenario 2: Immortal 1 is best friends with Sim 1. Immortal 2 is best friends with Sim 1. Could Immortal 1 count Sim 1 as a best friend? Can Immortal 1 and Immortal 2?

It has to be unique between immortals, just like the careers, black ops, etc. If Two immortals/heir are best friends with a Sim, they cannot count as a unique best friend. It doesn't matter if other Sims who are not your immortals/heirs are also best friends with the Target Best Friend.

Nope.

Best friends do not have to be unique between immortals. If two immortals are best friends with the same sim, only one of them can count said sim for their best friend requirements, but there's nothing wrong with both immortals having a best-friend level friendship with them.

My bad - I think I understand it, but explained it wrong. Thanks for fixing it Trip.

That's fine, especially with the tighter rules about best friends that other dynasties have. But I'm not letting someone stress about something if they shouldn't. ;)

Sorry Trip but you are wrong. Best friends have to be unique for immortals from the rules:

6. Have 6 different Best Friends (must be different Best Friends of other immortals)

So if Sim A counts Mortimer Goth as a besty then Morty is off the table for Sim B to even be best friends with. Even if you are not claiming him a best friend for Sim B.

Pam's explanation of the BF requirement is correct. It's different with the Life States Dynasty where there is no "claiming" and BF must be totally unique to heirs.

This is the explanation of Best Friends for Ambrosia that I had used (and, I believe, Trip had as well).

Would it be possible to have you (or any moderator) edit the rules to clarify that the BF must be unique?

To my knowledge, we have always interpreted the rule to mean the best friends can overlap, as long as they are claimed by only one Immortal Sim.  For example, Christopher Steel could be best friends with both Carina and Nectarine (wife and daughter).  However, only Carina claimed him as part of her requirements.

I found this, hope this helps everyone.  Listen to Pam.

I have lost count the amount of times this issue has come up.  I have always thought that best friends should be unique as in nobody can share a besty but if Pam has stated that this is not so then everyone should go by what the boss lady says.

In which case, we should modify the wording to reflect that: "If two immortals share a best friend, only one immortal may count them as a best friend" -- if the boss man agrees. ;)

Indeed, if it will cause less confusion, let's edit the rules to be more specific.  I stand by my interpretation as quoted by Nutella from September 12, 2013.  :)

I have edited the rule set.
The rule now reads:
6. Have 6 different Best Friends (must be different Best Friends of other immortals if two immortals share a best friend then only one of them can claim that particular best friend as an ambrosia requirement.)

Does that make sense to everyone?
