Ok, after having slept almost all day, (and still not able to get my blood sugar under control), I'm more or less awake and ready to continue.

Grim looked Jon over, and listened to us as we begged and pleaded for his life.  Jon, just hovered there.  I'm sure he was overwhelmed by all this and not sure what to do.  It certainly isn't what he normally saw when someone passed on.  No little chats with the Grim, just someone turning into a ghost and zipping into an urn or something.

"Oh, dear.  This really IS bad timing isn't it?  That looks like it was going to be a wonderful masterpiece.  Well, sorry but business IS business after all."

He laid Jon's tombstone down and took out that horrible scythe.  No matter what we said or how I begged we could see it was hopeless.  Still, we continued to try.
Poor Jon.  He never completed his life time wish because of me!  He spent all his time sculpting and painting instead of playing his music and becoming more famous.

Grim went through this whole routine of looming and talking and carrying on.

Just as he was getting well into his ceremony, Jon got bored and decided he had to pee.  He began to drift away.  Maybe he thought he'd be able to avoid the whole thing and it was just some bad food he ate or a horrible nightmare.  Maybe he wasn't really awake yet.

He should have known.  You can't escape the Grim.

Jon tried to explain to Grim that he still had a lot of things to do.  He even promised to make an eternal ice sculpture of him.

Crushed by the stubborn insistence of Grim that he must go now, Jon bowed to the inevitable and then leaped up.  He had the last word.  Instead of following Grim's instructions Jon had decided he would live forever too and leaped into the statue he had been sculpting and NOT into that awful tombstone.  He chose his own monument.

"Well, well, well.  I've never had one do that before.  I'll leave you to your grief.  Just go and tidy up a bit.  You've left some spoiled food out.  Don't worry, I'll clean up for you."

True his word as always....

Just as he was about to leave..

Justin put down his breakfast and followed after him.  I assumed he wanted to ask one more time if he could have his dad back.  Imagine my amazement when this discussion took place!

What WAS he thinking!!?  This is DEATH he's talking to!  Maybe he thought he could mellow him out for the next time he had to pay a visit?

Grim finally broke away when Justin turned around and just vanished in his usual puff of black smoke.  That night, needing comforting, Justin slept beside me the way he used to when he had bad dreams as a little boy.

Life goes on, and so must we.  For all eternity my handsome boy will be with me, but the love of my life is gone and throwing away that ambrosia and death flower looks better and better.  Not able to face things the way they were, I got my hair done, changed my wardrobe, and hoped for a better day.

Thank you, dear ones.  I just forgot my insulin in time so had to wait it out till it finally took effect and could bring me back from that awful sleep we fall into.  I really don't know which is worse, the shakes and insanity from too low or the unconsciousness from too high.  Of course, now I'll be awake for most of the night. sighing

Hope you like the story.  It took me long enough to get this out.  Now I can move it along a bit faster.

Has anyone noticed how often the sculptures die in front of that particular statue?  It's kind of creepy.  Also, did you know you can actually lift the statue out of it's base and have a statue and a base in two separate pieces?  You can sell the statue, (I kept mine), but there's not much you can do with the base.

Short up date:

Why is it things have to be so inappropriate in life?  I had not gotten anywhere near accepting the loss of my beloved Jon when it became time for Justin to age up and become a young adult.  Bad timing!  I was certainly not in any kind of party mood and Justin didn't seem ready for this.  Still we can't stop the march of time.

Notice the attractive blonde pointing the finger at the cake?  She and Justin had gone to school together and had been very good friends.  I think he had an idea he wanted to go steady or marry her and I for one was not at all happy about this.  She was mean spirited and evil and there was no way I wanted those genes in our dynasty.  I knew I couldn't do much about it if that is where his heart went but I hoped he would find someone much better.  The choices seemed so limited.

That girl seemed to mock and poke fun as Justin aged.  She was a snob and apparently our cake was just a joke to her.  Notice the attractive, sweet looking brunette in the background?  Now THAT is more what I had in mine for my son!

Hmmm, there is another brunette.  Younger.  Bad genes from her mother's side but did she get them as well?  I wonder......but she is only a teenager so out of the question.  Well, at least Miss Snobbypants has stopped laughing.

Oh no!  Here she goes again.  Now what is so darned funny?  Hmmm, wonder who that guy in the bushes is?  He keeps staring at me.  Well, Justin seems to be making the change quite nicely.  Wonder who he'll look like?

Oh, dear.  I think Justin just made a HUGE faux pas!  Dress jacket, shirt tie, and swim trunks?  No wonder Blondey is in hysterics!

Justin handled his wardrobe malfunction with great aplomb.  He absolutely did not allow it to phase him or to show that he was in anyway embarrassed.  "It was deliberate.  No body panic."  As he went from guest to guest he seemed to get really interested in that beautiful brunette.  My hopes went up!

It was no time at all before they were best friends!  And he had only met her that night.

Well, my boy sure knew how to put the move on her.  The next thing you knew they were hugging.  She confessed she rather liked his bravery and daring in his wardrobe choices.  He thought she was the sweetest woman he ever met.  I guess that wardrobe choice really WAS deliberate.  He wanted to find out who his real friends were.

He declared his attraction to her and asked if she had met his mother!  Things were definitely getting serious.

She charmed me right away.  She was everything I had hoped for in a spouse for my son.  Beautiful, intelligent, a great job, (she was a renowned surgeon), and sweet and kind.  She'd make such a good mother for my grandchild!

I could see she had a great time at the party and I was sure she would be the right one for Justin.  I guess it turned out to be a fair day after all, despite my sadness.  Did you notice how much Justin looks like his dad?  I'm hoping he will change that haircut though.

Oh yes!  I caught him at his easel and that was just too much for me!  So I sent him to change and get a new hair do.  You'll see what he came up with tomorrow when I update the big romance!

Dear Diary,  Justin seems to be set up for disappointment and heartbreak!  Remember that lovely girl he met and fell in love with at his party?  Well, the next day, with a somewhat dubious choice in his change of wardrobe, he went looking for her.  He finally found her at the pool, and while she let him know she was available, there were certain things.....

They chatted for awhile, and seemed to be getting along just swimmingly.

Justin had a question he just had to ask.  He knew it was impolite to ask a lady her age, but there was the dynasty to consider.  It was important to select a mate who would be there for some time, and since he had JUST reached young adulthood, he didn't want someone too young or too old.

They had quite a long conversation.  It was hard for him but he had to let her down and just remain best friends.  He had found out she was only one day away from becoming an elder, and that would not be a good choice for his bride.  He was pretty upset, as you can imagine.

Days went by with him focusing entirely on his art.  He was determined to achieve his lifetime wish of becoming a Descendant of Da Vinci.  It was a good way to get over the loss of his future wife as a bride.  It was nice to have her as a best friend, but he knew even that would not last for long.  Soon he was painting up a storm and making quite a tidy sum of cash for the family as well.  He'd master painting in no time as opportunity after opportunity came his way.  Placing 15 paintings in our home was no problem at all, nor was doing a painting worth $1,000!

To make things even better.  He had struck up a friendship with the high school girl across the street.  You know, the one with the bad genes in her family?  Her mom was a nasty piece of work being evil and mean spirited, but as it turns out, her primary trait was that of being good!  He knew her other traits would be fabulous as well if she had that good trait.  He began to visit her home, even though he was uncomfortable there, and sometimes spent time tutoring her.

Things began to look up when she started to come over at all hours of the night just to visit with him.

There was definitely an attraction there!

This time he wasn't leaping into anything.  And, she still was so very young.  Maybe she wouldn't be the one after all.  As for me, well, I had my doubts.  Her family were not the best people after all.  How far could the apple fall from THAT tree?

Oh, breakfast is ready!  See you later my dear, silent friend!

"Getting along swimmingly" at the pool!  ;D Joria, you have a real feel for just the right phrase.  Justin is very handsome.  It will be interesting to see who he winds up with.  Finding mates for our immortals has to be the most harrowing part of the Dynasties!

Dear Diary, it's been days and days since Justin last spoke to that girl across the street.  What was her name again?  Oh, right.  Aurora.  Aurora Shallow.  We all know what that family is like!  Well, at least if he marries her she won't be after his money as her family has plenty of it's own.

Oh!  I forgot to tell you.  Remember I was going to have a party for Justin, so he could meet more people and hopefully a good girl to marry?  Well, I did but it certainly didn't come out the way I had hoped.  First of all, Justin never showed up!  Then, of all things, one of my best friends decided to give me a really hard time.

How dare he criticize my son!!?

He had been trying to make some moves on me, but, well, you know my heart still belonged to Jon.  I guess he thought he could take his disappointment out on me in this way.

Needless to say I was shocked and embarrassed, and in front of that Shallow woman to boot!  Of course, it delighted her mean spirit no end.

Well!  You can say what you will about me but no one had better dare criticize my family or be as mean and rude as this!  I was about ready to give him a punch in the nose, and believe me, if I wasn't a lady, I would have!

I contented myself with just telling him off in no uncertain terms.  As far as I was concerned THIS friendship was OVER!

"Well!  You can just take your long hairy ugly self out of here and don't ever come back!  Oh, and a word to the wise?  Besides getting a hair cut, you will NEVER look as good in it as my Jon did, I'd lay off the juice if I were you!  It has made an old reprobate out of you and you are just too unpleasant for words!"

I simply couldn't believe this all happened and we were having such a good time too.  Sure put a damper on that party and all the guests just left, one by one.

I had to take a moment to put myself back together.

I just can't imagine what brought all this on.  It was a good thing Jon wasn't there or there would have been a brawl at the first words.  I think I'll go get a cup of something soothing and just rest awhile.  Going back and remembering all this is just taking it out of me.  No fear though!  There are happier times ahead.
