Builders Needed to Help with the next Forum Dynasty

The Challenge Team is looking for houses for the upcoming Dynasty.

The team requests you follow a few simple rules:

• No CC
• No career or party rewards
• Base game objects or replaceable with base game (i.e., a couch from Perfect Patio SP would be okay but not a hot tub)
• No MOO (sometimes causes problems in a download).

We're looking mainly for starter houses (<$20,000), but other sizes are acceptable. If you want to design something for an alien, that would be great.

When you upload your creation, give it the address #carlsguiderdc.

Are the houses allowed to have skilling items such as computers, easels, chess tables etc?

Sure. Just keep in mind that the sim getting the house may have only $20,000. Once we post the rules, you'll probably have a better idea of what to build, but we wanted to have some houses on hand when people started the challenge.

Just wanted to say that the 21 houses up on the Gallery look really nice. I can't wait to start using some of them!

Would a little bit of garden MOO be acceptable? What kinds of problems can it cause?

What about the use of the re-sizing cheat ? Does that cause problems like MOO does or can we use that cheat ?

@_Annika_  and @Ferretmania , I just downloaded a house with some over-sized objects and MOO done on the gardens, and haven't had any problems, so I guess that would be okay. Keep in mind though, that the sims will only have $20,000 initially to spend on a house and lot.

Thanks @MarianT  , I've already uploaded some, without the cheats, but good to know they can be used if needed.

In all my years playing Sims I've never done much building, didn't really appeal to me..until now. I'm not that good at it, but that will hopefully change.

Another question though. When we showcase them here on the Forum. Which lot value do we use ?

I noticed that the lot value is higher in build mode when looking at the info panel , than it is when looking at the lot in the gallery.

Good question, Ferretmania. The lot value in build mode probably also contains the value of the lot. Since people might download them to a different size lot, I'd go with the value shown in the Gallery.

I've been away from the game for a bit, so it has been fun getting back to building. three starter houses and so far, I haven't gone over budget, although I may have to revisit one and decorate it the way I had envisioned it.

@Joria, it's never too late. We haven't posted the rules yet (don't know if I can reveal the date, so I'll just say it's coming soon). And I, for one, would be delighted to have a couple of your houses to choose from. As I recall from Union Cove, they were quite nice.

@Joria, it's never too late. We haven't posted the rules yet (don't know if I can reveal the date, so I'll just say it's coming soon). And I, for one, would be delighted to have a couple of your houses to choose from. As I recall from Union Cove, they were quite nice.

Well, thank you for the compliment.  I built 27 UC places so hope they were nice.  Some were way too big.

I don't quite understand.  I'm already playing a dynasty so how can there be a new dynasty?  It ain't broke so why fix it?  Is it more a challenge for points or something?

Do you want all starter houses or a mix of price range?  Do you want to fill in the different towns?  I can do that for sure. lol   Do you want them built on dynasty size lots?  (that's what I've done) 

I put one up today. It's called Basic Box1 and I hashtagged it with my Origin ID, Joria and with carlsguiderdc and a few others.  No moo, no cc, no mods (ever), basic stuff.  I did enlarge decorative items and landscape things.  Take a look and let me know if this is what you mean.  Really, really basic box.

Good question, Dellena. I'll look at what's there and see if we are.

Joria, we're preparing a second dynasty challenge. You may recall that Metro (along with others) came out with 5 for TS3. I'll take a look at your "basic box," but I'm pretty sure it will be fine. You'll probably get a better idea when we post the rules.

I'll let the cat out of the bag and state that official Dynasty files can start Dec 3 when the event goes live, but everyone will have two weeks to look the rules over, ask questions, plan strategy, etc. It's an awesome one - like nothing we have ever done before.

I'm excited about this!  Got a few more ideas for houses.  Can we use the debug cheat?  Not for things you'd have to earn in a career but like for adding a pond or something.

Joria, I just checked the rules for the challenge. Since we're not allowing the debug cheat for players, we probably shouldn't allow it for builders either. Sorry.

I've uploaded a cute little modern starter. No MOO, no enlarged items, just a basic build with a good bed and better-than-cheapest plumbing and kitchen. It has a TV, chess table, 2 garden planters, and easel. $16K and change. It should be easily expandable. I built it on a 3X3 lot, but it should fit on smaller lots with no problem.

I also wanna say, you dont need to build starters, build what you think fits for the challenge.

I agree with Lena. And our aliens need alien-type houses to choose from, too.
