Looking for a Challenge? Join the Club!
« on: March 11, 2016, 06:32:37 AM »
Looking for a Challenge? Join the Club!

Goal
The team decided the time was right to offer up a Get Together focused event to see how many different club banners a player can purchase before their Sim turns Adult.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create one human YA sim in CAS.
  • Must choose Leader of the Pack Aspiration to start.
  • Cannot change Aspirations until Leader of the Pack is finished.
  • No adding to the household.
  • No moving.
  • You are allowed to use the Buydebug cheat for the sole purpose of purchasing a satellite to prevent abductions.
  • Depending on the packs you have, there are 23-24 premade clubs in the game -- 11 that show up initially and 12 that show up as the others are disbanded. Your Sim will be eligible to join all but 2 of them.
  • Your Sim must join these clubs, become their leader, and disband them after gaining 500 perk points, enough to buy a banner. You may not change the activities or membership of these clubs, with one exception. If you have to join a club that has no activities, you may add up to 3 activities.
  • Once your Sim has done this with 18 clubs, your Sim may start creating clubs:
  • Each club must have a unique restriction (age-related, trait-related, skill-related, or job-related).
  • Each club must have 3 unique activities (you may duplicate activities that premade clubs had but not ones from your created clubs).
  • Again, your goal is to get 500 perk points and buy a banner.
  • This challenge ends when your Sim has aged up to Adult.

Scoring

Club Banners — Add up the total number of different club banners your Sim purchased before they turned Adult. Give yourself 1 pt for each different banner.
To help keeping track on your clubs LenaLJ created a spreadsheet, which can be found here

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, LenaLJ, Trip, and MarianT) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

This Event is Now Closed

Rule Change: The team made an edit today and changed the following from 21 clubs you have to join to 18...

  • Once your Sim has done this with 18 clubs, your Sim may start creating clubs:

Clarification: Can we disband any 18 different clubs or are we required to disband all of the original ones (Garden Gnomes, Good Timers, Spin Masters, etc.) that we are allowed to join?

Can you explain how the banners work?  I'm practicing and I got 500 points in a club, and used them on the Club Banner - I was expecting to have a banner in my personal or home inventory, but I didn't.  I see that I can buy any banner for any club, though - so do we need to spend 500 points on the Club Banner and then go into buy mode to actually buy it?

Yes. The banner costs about $50.

When my groups disband I find groups with the same name in the list of potential clubs to join but with different members. Is this a bug? If not can I join a different club with the same name and count each one as they are different people?

Other than the above question I have to say that I have loved all of the challenges but this may be my favorite yet!!! I don't frequently play with a lot of clubs so didn't know I would enjoy it as much as I do.

Yes, this is an unforeseen problem. What we're suggesting is that you try to make your 18 with different clubs, but if it gets to the point where the only premade club you can join is one you've belonged to before, you can join and disband that.

Does 'disbanding a club" refer to clicking on the trashcan icon (next to Club perks) on the Club Info page? I've never seen a club reappear (over 8 generations) after being deleted, but I didn't delete all of the pre-made clubs either.

Yes, the trashcan in the bottom right corner on the Club info page is what you want.

My sim is having a problem with one of her self made clubs she wants to have at her house. It will not start even though it states has started. However while members are doing club activities there is no points adding up. Also, for my sim it gives the option to join but no matter how many times I click it she just won't.

I have tried repair game and disbanding and starting the same club up again after that failed but all to no avail. Any advice?

Is the gathering during your Sim's work hours? Even if they take a vacation day, if they are supposed to be at work they can't join a club gathering during those hours.

Thank you. She is now able to join the gathering.

Sorry but another question. As there are only 80 activities, once you reach 26 clubs can you repeat after everything has been used or are you maxed out at what you can accomplish? Thank you!!!

In other words after you have used every available activity are you then able to repeat in your sim created clubs?

Rule Change

The team has discovered that there are a couple of premade clubs that have no activities. We've changed the rule so that players can add up to 3 activities to these clubs if they have to join them in order to get 18.

  • Your Sim must join these clubs, become their leader, and disband them after gaining 500 perk points, enough to buy a banner. You may not change the activities or membership of these clubs, with one exception. If you have to join a club that has no activities, you may add up to 3 activities.

Well that makes it much more challenging. :-)  Once becoming the leader I could change the activities. However, making it more challenging makes it more interesting.

Well, I'm doing remarkably well at this one :-) not gonna spoil the surprise since I still have 4 or 5 days before adult lol but I will add another pre-made club to LenaLJ's list "Club Cosplay" basically you show up at a park dressed in one of the Star Wars costumes lol

I am really enjoying this one! I think my strengths in sims lies in clubs and cooking lol

Well, if you play intensively for the next few weeks, the cooking one isn't that bad! I think I had it done over the Easter weekend? Maybe a few days after that? I can't remember exactly, but that was with about 3 days of non-stop simming, only necessary bodily functions and the stupid need to sleep interrupted lol

I dove into this with no previous use of Clubs, and I still have a lot to learn about using them effectively, but this challenge was a great start!  It also got me out in Windenberg, where I hadn't really played much.  I love these challenges because they get me playing in ways I might not otherwise play and I learn so much.

Alayna Crew finished with 35 banners, and is now content to sit, quietly and alone, on the sidelines and watch the cooking commence.

Willow Bradshaw is off to enjoy a very quiet adulthood... after running away with 55 banners!

Now I need to go practice cooking (and fishing and gardening). I don't usually grow/fish for my own ingredients either, so that will be quite the challenge.

Thanks Makenzie! I was pleasantly surprised - in my practice runs I always ended up right around your score, give or take 1-2 banners. It just happened to be a really good run.

I finished with 23 club banners. It was harder than I thought, then again I didn't do a practice run. Almost managed to get 24, but unfortunately I was too late. Fun challenge! :)

Clubber Lang came out of boxing retirement briefly to participate and scored 26 banners. "I pity the fool who thinks he can get more club banners than me." Well, Clubber the list keeps getting longer. Lol.

I thought clubbing was supposed to be fun, but turned out to be stressing to get this done in the end.
Think i might have to much work lately.

But we ended up with 40 nice club banners :)

Great challenge; kudos to the team! I've never done anything with clubs before and have certainly never come this close to the wire on a challenge game.  Be that as it may, Farfalla Travolgente collected 32 club banners and is now ready to become a hermit.

This challenge is now closed. It happens very rarely but sometimes there is a tie for first place, and that's what happened here - great job to both Minnie Mouse and thekatie0409. 20 participants in all - a highlight for me was seeing former challenge team member Rica resurface to lock horns with everyone and give this event a try.

Thanks for participating, everyone. You can now share strategy.

Thanks MarianT! I’m super excited!! And now I will try to explain my strategy... It’s all pretty complicated, so I apologize for the post length in advance.

1 - I joined the Paragons first and didn’t disband them until finishing the 17 other groups. Why? Because they have a club perk that gives increased relationships with all Sims (i.e. much easier and faster to convince leaders to step down).

2 - Took a page out of Nutella’s book from the Writing challenge and focused on building Charisma and getting LOTS of aspiration points before focusing on the joining/leading/disbanding clubs cycle. I remembered that she did this with cooking, so I thought... why not charisma? Thanks Nutella :)

3 - This allowed me to purchase the Never Weary trait by Tuesday. More clubbing if you don’t have to sleep! I later got the Hardly Hungry trait as well, but that took a little longer.

4 - Also, during the first couple of days, I focused on meeting and building relationships with Sims who were leaders of other groups. That way when I later joined their group I could immediately convince them to step down.

5 - ALWAYS have a group gathering going. Especially when you are meeting new people/building charisma. And even when you’re asleep. Groups like the Upper Crusts and Mixing Crew are great for this because they will hang out at your house and garner lots of points while you sleep!

6 - On Tuesday of the first week after purchasing Never Weary, I dove full on into the formulaic cycle of Join Group > Convince Leader to Step Down > Get Group Points > Buy Banner > Disband > Repeat. Since I already had at least some relationship with every leader (a little from the Paragons perk, and often more from prior interaction over the past couple of days), I could often convince a leader step down immediately.

7 - After I had disbanded 17 clubs, I finally disbanded Paragons. No more use for them because I am automatically the leader of all future groups. I think I disbanded Paragons on the 2nd Tuesday, giving me 11 days left for new groups.

8 - Created groups with three activities. Activity #1 = something easy to achieve (Eat, Swim Watch TV, etc). Activity #2 = something it would be hard to do or my Sim really can’t do (Look for Frogs, Fix Objects, Do Homework, etc). Activity #3 = a middle-of-the-road activity, something you can do but it’s a little inconvenient (Write, Use Microscope, Wander Maze, etc.). This way, you can cycle through all the unique activities without getting stuck with a really bad grouping that takes forever to finish.

9 - Groups with smaller memberships (like the one lone townie who knew Gourmet Cooking) get easier activities. Like Sleeping. Sleeping accrues points remarkably fast. Who knew?

10 - As I started running out of unique group requirements, I would use a related activity in my current group to get to the skill level need to form the next group. For example, if I wanted my next group to require Programming Level 2, one of my current group’s activities would be programming.

After disbanding the 18th game-spawned club, I was able to continuously form and disband clubs in about 6-8 hours, depending on the club activities selected. I don’t think I could have done more than 55 very easily because I had used up all the unique requirements except those associated with age/money/traits/marital status that I did not qualify for and careers/skills that my townie friends did not have. I probably would have had to go meet more townies to try to find someone (anyone?!) with the Herbalism skill, Doctor career, or something like that. But I finished group #55 at 6 AM on the last Sunday and she aged up at 8 AM, so no worries there.

I think that’s it. Hopefully that all makes sense. Sorry for the length. Like I said… kind of complex. But I’m really excited to have tied for 1st! Congrats to thekatie0409. I can’t wait to hear if your strategy was similar to mine or very different. :)   

I used many of the tips that Minnie did. While I did not find out about the Paragon tip, I had no problem with my sim becoming leader after only a few interactions with the leader. My sim was outgoing, insider, and friendly and I think this created very easy ability to convince other sims to step down as leader. A few other tips I used were to utilize the tip of getting the connections in order to use that for money so my Sim never had to work a job. This enabled more time for clubbing. I would utilize careers only to form my group limits. I also choose my groups around sleeping so that I participated in groups that utilized a house to sleep. I had 7 pages of activities and group requirements in order to be able to cross off as I used them. Also, I had asked if while 3 slots needed to be unique the other two slots I would repeat with either sleep, friendly, or tell jokes. I had asked during practice if the 2 slots could be repeated because I realized if not the number of groups created would be capped out.

I focused on getting the aspiration completed first so that the club leaders would automatically step down and make less work for me. Right away I joined the Upper Crusts and Powerhouses. Then I got the confident perk with the Upper Crusts and had them come over and cook while I practiced charisma up until level 4. After that, I started a Powerhouse gathering and used Charisma socials on the leader to get to level 5 Charisma and make our social high enough for him to step down. We had enough club points to complete the aspiration and buy the first club banner on the first Tuesday.

After that, I used the points from the aspiration to buy Connections like Makenziegma. But I don’t like traveling so I just had all of the club gatherings at my home lot, using the Connections money to buy pianos or closets or whatever the current club needs. At some point I got Never Weary also. Since I had everything at home I was always in a club gathering like Minnie Mouse. You can just set 6 guitars (or whatever objects) outside and then eat or sleep or fill other needs while the rest of the club gathers points. ;D

I started making my own clubs on the 2nd Monday. I put what I thought the 26 easiest ways to get clubs points would be in the first slots and then pretty much randomly dispersed the rest of the activities. I never played the clubs or Windenburg before so I made some mistakes here and put things like ‘Wander Maze’ in the first spot which wasn’t very helpful.

At the end I ran out of unique requirements to meet with my clubs so I just kind of hung out until aging up.  :)

My strategy, for whatever it's worth. ;)

1. I joined Good Timers immediately, but didn't meet with them right away. The reason for this is that during my practice I learned that if a club has the Rally the Troops perk and you belong to that club, you can use Rally the Troops in ANY club. This basically meant my Sim did not have to eat, sleep, or use the toilet for the first week or so of the challenge, while I was disbanding the premade clubs. Once I joined Spin Masters, I used that as my Rally the Troops club and disbanded Good Timers. I didn't disband Spin Masters until I was ready to start making my own clubs. Oh, I joined Renegades last becaus eof the negative relationship hit. I wanted to make sure my Sim had tons of friends first. While my Sim was out at the nightclubs with Partihaus and Spin Masters I kept my eye out for other club leaders. Chatting while dancing builds friendship pretty quickly. By 3am on the second Tuesday, all 18 premade clubs had been disbanded.

2. I gave my Sim the Dance Machine trait so that when I no longer had access to Rally the Troops she could refill her energy very quickly with Disco Nap. I thought about purchasing the Never Weary reward, but in one of my practice runs I was forced to join the Private Club, so I saved my points for Connections instead. With Connections, I was able to have enough cash on hand to buy all the equipment needed for club activities on my home lot, which saved travel time later on.

3. When I started joining clubs, I was always thinking ahead to future restrictions, so I built skills as I went along. For example, I purchased a portable bar and brought it with me to Upper Crusts gatherings so I could work on mixology.  By the end of the challenge, my Sim had 2(+) in at least 18 different skills. Those were the primary club restrictions. I also used one age restriction, her three traits, and finally, the Secret Agent career because she would have the weekend off. She was gathered in the Tech Guru club when she aged up.

4. Club activities were set up the same as what Minnie Mouse described.

5. My Sim was in a club gathering from the time she landed on her lot on Sunday morning until she aged up. There was never a time when she was not in a club gathering.

6. With a few exceptions, it took about 10-12 hours to get to 500 points. I'm not sure what I could have done to get to the 500 point threshold any faster. Maybe my club members weren't as cooperative about staying on task or something? ;)

Congratulations to Minnie Mouse and thekatie!

Great strategies, everyone!

@reggikko, you explained something I couldn't understand --  why my clubs sometimes had the "rally the troops" interaction and sometimes didn't.

Good Timers, Partihaus, and Spin Masters all start out with Rally the Troops so whenever you belonged to one of those three, the interaction would have been available.

Congrats to Minnie and katie! Freaking amazing scores!

My strategy was pretty simple: make as many friends as possible so that charisma increased to level 5 or so (took about a day or two) then start joining and disbanding clubs left, right and centre! It's amazing how easy it is to convince someone to step down if you're their friend, although, I kinda felt bad every time they would start sobbing afterwards :-( I believe my first club was the Garden Gnomes.

There were brief periods where Karda wasn't in a club, but that was usually if she had just disbanded one of the pre-mades and desperately needed sleep or food etc. I also made use of Connections and the extra-useful trait from the Aspiration! Although, I never joined the snobby rich people club (forgot the name, Upper Crusts?) But it was handy to have the cash to buy everything I needed for my club gatherings at my house. I always tried to have at least 3 other people in my club, as I also utilised the "sleep while they get points" strategy lol once Karda aged up, I invited Joaquin over (he was the highest relationship single that Karda knew) and invited him to move in (ok, so I tried proposing first but he said no, so I had to get drastic lol) so now I'm going to use Karda in a Legacy (I'm going to attempt to post pics from it) as a super Founder cuz of all the traits and skills she has!
