Just wanted to introduce myself!

My name is Genevieve (Genna). I'm a 21 year old mommy with a 4 year old daughter. I fell in love with the Sims several years ago and I love playing in my spare time! Outside of Sim-Land I'm waiting for school to start. I do some side work and research for a local activist network. I love nature and the mountains (I live in Colorado)! I love music, reading and writing. Glad to join the community  ;D

Welcome hempgirl!  We're glad you joined us.  I've always loved western Colorado, but never got to spend nearly enough time there.  Every summer here in Texas, I promise to move to Colorado someday.  Haven't made it yet.  :D

Hello to everyone.

This is only my second ever forum posting (the first was to sign up for a challenge here) and at 25 years of age that seems to be an anomaly in this day and age. But then again, I didn't start playing computer games until the summer after my 5th year of university (2 years ago). My then boyfriend, now husband, got me hooked on The Sims 2. That September, when he and his computer moved some 10 hours away for university I had him get me The Sims 1 because the withdrawal was awful, that and my laptop couldn't run The Sims 2.

When we got married this past August (almost 1 year!), and he and his computer moved in, I discovered he had switched over to Windows Vista and the system refused to run The Sims 2. Needless to say I didn't need much convincing when, a few months later, he brought up the idea to buy a new laptop and retire mine. Since the new laptop could run The Sims 3 we bought it (he wasn't such a fan of sharing his shiny toy - the PC.) Now, not a week goes by that I don't play The Sims 3. WA was a gift from my husband for getting a new job, High-End Loft Stuff was a gift to myself for ... well, just because. A girl doesn't always need a reason, does she?

Okay, so this is getting long enough. On a more personal note: I live in Canada, I speak 2 languages fluently and have the beginnings of a third, I'm a newly-wed, the second oldest in a family of 8 children, I hold 2 university degrees, I spend most of my time at work (or so it seems), and I dream of owning a miniature German Shepard.

Welcome lilygirl (and the rest that I have missed, a lot of newcomers are joining here; nice).

I was wondering, which two languages do you speak besides English (if it is beside), and what is the third one? I'm personally interested in languages, that's why I ask. :)

Have a great time here!

Hey there I'm sort of new to the forums, think I've already made my presence known by the Pam incident. :)
I've used this site as guest for long time, even recommended it to my friends who would play sims 3 as well.

Don't really know what more I should say, but anyone can just ask me. :)

Hope to get along well here.

English is my second language but I don't really consider it a second language, more like a co-first language, as I've been fluent since I started school at age 5. My native language is, what we (my people) call Low German. My ancestors originated in the Netherlands and spoke Dutch. They then moved to Russia and mixed in some of that. Then it was off to Germany where they actually took on German as a second "first" language, meaning everyone became fluent in both. Next move was to Mexico and they mixed a little Spanish into the "Dutch" they were speaking. Finally, they moved up to Canada and took up English. Anyway, so our Low German is a mixture of Dutch, Russian, German, Spanish, and English; mostly Dutch. I was actually able to read and understand the bit of Dutch written earlier in this thread somewhere! That was exciting.

On a family camping trip many years ago, we were walking back from the beach and were stopped by a couple in a campsite we were passing. They asked us what language we were speaking and it turns out that they were from Holland, spoke Dutch, and understood the majority of what we were saying! Most of what they couldn't understand was spoken too fast, they said. To my knowledge, Low German isn't an official language and doesn't have a written form.

As for the language I know a little of, that's German. My Grandparents' generation is the last to have both Low German and German as co-first languages growing up. My church, during my childhood, offered a youth Bible study class that was taught in German, and my mother made me, and my siblings, attend for 8 years! I started when I was in grade 1. Anyway, years later, during my 4th year of university I needed another option class and thought learning the German language might be fun. And boy was it ever! The best part is that I can have a (fairly simple) conversation with my Grandma in German. I think that's pretty special; it is to me anyway.

Well, was that a long enough explanation for you? I have to stop all this talking or no one will ask me another question!  :)

Wow, lilygirl!  That's fascinating.  It's pretty amazing that you have so much knowledge of your ancestors and the language shifts.  Very interesting, indeed!  We have a Babble Thread that you may also enjoy for things like this.  It's a place where members can talk about things that aren't related to Sims 3.  If you haven't found it yet, take a look here.

Wow, don't you have a written language? That may make larger languages compete out the Low German if given time.

Interesting story though, it's amazing how a language can be formed like that! ;)

Hi everyone!

I'm not really sure what to write about myself, but I'm new here! I am 20 years old and live in Sweden. Work an office job 9-5 and spend my free time with my sims! Right now I am playing in the Babyboomer challenge and to join it was the reason I registered, but I have been reading the guide and forums for about half a year before I joined. So I kind of feel like I know everybody already, hehe. :)

He lilygirl,

That is indeed fascinating info! Wow! Well, I am Dutch, have learned German at highschool for a year or so (haven't spoken it since then), I am improving my English here, learning Spanish @ home and all that stuff is indeed a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to see you on the Babble Thread. Although we speak only English there (and here :P) I am really curious if I can understand you in your own language mixture.
Send me a pm if you like. Let's see what I can make of it. :P
Have to go now before I get too much off topic. :)

Welcome all the new newcomers!

Lillygirl,

I am Dutch and I do speak German quite well. If you do not mind if I ask, where exactly do you live?

Feel free to PM me in Low German, I wonder if I will be able to understand it...

Hi there,

I thought I would finally 'officially' introduce myself on the forum. I'm Maltese (technically half-Maltese half-British), I was born and brought up in Malta. I'm currently living and working in the UK - my partner is British. My two first languages are Maltese and English - Malta is a bilingual country. I also speak Italian (most Maltese tend to) and basic French - no German or Swedish or Dutch I'm afraid!

I work as a Marine Ecologist in and Environmental and Engineering Consultancy. Hmmm, and I'm addicted to the sims!  ;D Because of work I can't always play the sims. I tend to go away on surveys quite a bit, as well as marine surveys I also do bat and newt surveys.

I first started playing the sims when Sims 1 came out, and I still have the game plus all expansion packs. I loved it, couldn't get enough of it. When Sims 2 came out my laptop couldn't run the game, finally I bought a new laptop and sims 3 had just come out so I decided to play that instead. And i'm back to being addicted to it.

Apart from that I love this forum, I check everyday (if i'm not out on a boat). I think that everybody is so nice, friendly, and helpful. I've learnt so much from this forum, and I like the challenges. Can't wait for Ambitions now.

Right, back to BabyBoomer II! Now that's a challenge!
