Playing vampires in rotation
« on: April 02, 2017, 08:07:47 AM »
Here are a couple of things I've noticed while doing this.

First off, if you want your vampires to stay alive while you're playing another family, don't invite (or force) them to meet your Sim any time during the day. And when you do invite one to a community lot, it's a good idea to escort them home afterwards.

Be aware that if you give your vampire Sims the power to move as bats or mist, they will always use this power to move, even if you disabled it before going to another household. This will drain their energy.

If you're playing several vampires rotationally, it's best not to send your Sims anywhere during the day. You can't control which Sims are selected to go to stores, the park, festivals, etc., and the game might choose your vampires. I've not had one die of sunlight yet, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

Thank you so much for these tips! I've already had one vampire burn up and die, a visiting vampire who said he was already leaving but then didn't. (;_;)
In his ghost form, due to his cause of death, he has a lovely white glow over his heart. And he still gets uncomfortable in sunlight...

Great tip about making sure to escort invited vampires home!

Oh, I didn't realize that they'd continue using that power while I'm away. I have been enabling the "fast move" powers before leaving the vampires (unaware they'd use them anyway), hoping that they'd gain some vampire rank points in my absence.
Do you think doing so has negative repercussions?

Do keep even your non-vampire sims indoors during the day?
I'll have a second vampire household soon and don't want to take any risks...

With so many uncontrolled sims in your game, your latest challenge seems incredibly difficult!

Where possible I play my vamps until they have all three levels of sunlight immunity if I know I am going to rotate away from them. If you place a coffin in their home and then visit them they will enter the coffin to sleep restoring their vamp energy.

Well, that's a cool tip! So if I take a sim from my active household to visit a vamp household, they automatically retire to their coffins? Wow!
I haven't been using coffins at all because I don't understand how they differ from beds.
Now I want to replace all their beds with coffins! Erm, are there double coffins? (kidding)

hhehe two sims somehow manage to squeeze into one coffin. Defies logic eh?  ;)

If you are talking about NPC vamps, they too will use a coffin to restore their energy but sometimes they prefer a bed due to whatever weaknesses the RNG gave them. It's really only the vamps that can not use a bed or a couch etc to sleep/nap that actually need coffins.  You can place them on community lots, like a vampy basement in a bar or something and vamps will go use the coffin there too.

I like the idea of having vamp-friendly basements with coffins at community lots! And I'll def make a basement club hangout for my vamps at the nightclub I placed in Forgotten Hollow's empty lot.
I've been mostly trying to get by with Dark Meditation, but I'm going to try to use coffins more now. Thanks for sharing!

If you put a Vampire into hibernation, and then rotate families, will it stay in hibernation?

No. You can still have it show up on various lots.

So what I was trying to do was keep a small group of vampires separate from the rest of the population.

I build a large temple got them all inside, then removed all the doors.

I did not give them Teleport as Mist or Travel as Bat, so they should be stuck in there until I want them released, and other Vampires with those abilities should still be able to come a visit them.

If you're not actually playing on the lot where your doorless building is, your Sims will still be able to move around the community. The only Sims you have any control over are the ones you are actively playing. All others can be pulled to act as mixologists, shoppers in a store, chess players in a park, etc.

Also when you rotate back to them, they can be reset by the game to be outside the building, although this doesn't always happen.

You have to be a total "Coffin Nazi" to keep these guys alive without sun immunity.

i second the idea of getting all vampires all three ranks in sun immunity before rotating them. I have lost vamps without it.
