Tri-State Super Parent Challenge
« on: July 14, 2017, 10:10:46 AM »
Tri-State Super Parent Challenge

Goal
This challenge is actually 3 mini challenges in 1 -- you'll be creating 3 different games: one for a Human, Alien, and Vampire families. Then, it's a mad dash to have the parents complete the Super Parent Aspiration as quickly as possible.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • This challenge requires the Get to Work expansion as well as two Game Packs: Vampires and Parenthood.
  • The Toddler Stuff pack is banned.
  • For your first game, create 2 YA Sims of the same life state (Human, Alien, or Vampire).
  • Alien abductions are okay for this challenge.
  • Adoption is banned for this challenge.
  • You may age up infants, toddlers, children, and teens whenever you want to.
  • Your first game ends when both parents have completed their Super Parent Aspiration.
  • For your second and third games just rinse and repeat and play different life state families with those parents also completing the Super Parent Aspiration.
  • This challenge ends when you have finished all three separate games with the three different sets of parents all finishing their Super Parent Aspirations.

Scoring

Here is a helpful Spreadsheet to calculate your minutes for your scores. (Thank you, Lena)

Human. Stop playing when both Human parents have achieved their Super Parent Aspirations. Look at the Simology tab and note the days to age up as well as the time of day. Plug in the info in the spreadsheet to get your total minutes.

Alien. Stop playing when both Alien parents have achieved their Super Parent Aspirations. Look at the Simology tab and note the days to age up as well as the time of day. Plug in the info in the spreadsheet to get your total minutes.

Vampire. Stop playing when both Vampire parents have achieved their Super Parent Aspirations. You'll have to keep track of how long you've been playing as your vampires won't age. Plug in the info in the spreadsheet to get your total minutes.

Total. Add up the Human, Alien, and Vampire amounts for your Total.

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, LenaLJ, Trip, and MarianT) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

In reading through the scoring section under "Vampires," it says "...note the days to age up..." Aren't they immortal? I don't think the simology tab shows number of days to aging up for vampires.

You're right. We changed the rule to reflect that. You'll have to keep track of their age on your own.

For clothing and hair, yes. But we usually don't allow gameplay items from packs that release during a challenge.

Hmmmm...I am not disagreeing with you, Marian, but the problem is we did not specifically ban that Stuff pack in the rules, and I wonder if other finishers used it?

Hi Metro and Marian,

I didn't use the Toddler Stuff pack, which came out on Thursday, August 24.  I just looked at the dates that the three of us on the leader board, so far, finished, and everyone finished before the pack came out.

I just wanted to help with the date information.

Loved this challenge and it helped me re-ignite my interest in the Sims. Without any practice I don't think I did to badly I could have done better. Each time I played it I was quicker. However not to disappointed in my results. This was a lot of fun and I finished in two days. Thank you very much!!!

This event is now closed. Thanks to all participants. It was a nice opportunity for players to strut their parenting chops as well as give a chance for some of us (myself included) to play different life states. Big grats to GlazeyLady for the win...she swooped in at the 11th hour for another feather in her cap. Great job. :) Everyone is now free to talk strategy.

Aw, so close.  I thought I may of had that one, but congrats to @GlazeyLady for her win.  I also wanted to say how fun this challenge was, and it was a nice change of pace to have a parenting type challenge without a full house.

Anyway, my strategy was evolving.  I had so many questions before I started, and so many more came up as I was playing.  I had never played with aliens or vampires before, but it turned out strategy was pretty much the same for all three life states.

My first thought was it would be a lot better if they could have twins.  On my first practice run, my humans did manage to have twins, but not the aliens or vamps.  It is so unreliable, I knew that I couldn't depend on that for strategy.  As, I played though, I realized one child is better anyway.  The most time consuming part of the aspiration is helping with homework for 4 hours.  At first, I just had one parent help them with their homework and it takes 1 hour.  I knew if they could get a B, that they would have extra credit as well.  I found out if a child goes to school with a completed project and very focused they could get a B in one day.  That was great to know, and it did help the time by sending the kid to school the next day, getting the B, and then There would be 2 hours that homework could be helped.  Although, that still wasn't the fastest way.

While I was doing the alien practice, my kid and his dad kept talking autonomously while his mother was helping him.  I noticed that his homework took longer to complete, so that's when I knew.  Of course, what makes everything take longer in sims 4, multitasking.  So, when i used that strat, I had one parent helping the kid with homework, one parent sitting at the table beside him, and I just kept queuing up social interactions for the kid and the other parent that wasn't currently helping him.  So, by doing it that way, I could get about 6 hours of homework help out of just one homework.  That completely took away any need of getting a new homework.

So, this is exactly what I did.  When the game first starts, I made a club with both parents in it.  The only club activity I put at first was friendly interactions.  Then, obviously, I had that parents try for baby.  It happened the first time for the humans, but the vamps and aliens took twice.  Then you have 3 days until you can have that baby, so I used that time by maxing the parenting skill.  First, they read the parenting books.  Then I just had them talk to each other and every couple interactions, I would have them give parenting tips social.  The first night they slept, and I added sleeping to club activities.  When they woke up, they had enough points for rally the troops.  They only other perk I bought was a parenting skill boost.  I did find that rally the troops really wasn't very beneficial for the vamps though.  Also during that time, I had a caked baked.  As soon as the baby was born, it was aged up to toddler.  Then the toddler was aged up to child.  I gave the children the good trait because it gives you a third of the bar to empathy.  The first thing I had them do was play with the doctor set and queued up all of the praise playing with the doctor set as I could with both parents, that got that discipling your child 5 times milestone done, and helped with the empathy.  Then I cancelled the playing, and had the child do homework like I described above.  Once one parent had their 4 hours, I would switch to other other parent for the remaining 2 hours.  At that point, the child went back to the doctor set, fill up the parent's queue with praise, then cancel the playing interaction. Then, start playing again, filled the parents queue again, and empathy was filled.  Then, it was time for teen, so the cake had candles put on it again for the child to age up.  I gave the teens the neat trait because it fills up manners a third.  First, I finished the last two hours of homework for the parent's aspiration, then had them praise him about homework just like I did the doctors set by queuing praise, then cancel, start homework again, and queuing it up until responsibility was in range.  Lastly, I put a bunch of tables in the yard, and had the teen set them all.  While the parents were running around praising him or her for setting the table.  So, they were finished around midnight or 1 early Thursday morning.  I kinda messed up on the vamps because if they already have full parent mode when that part of the aspiration is there, it won't complete, so you have to wait for the moodlet to go away to get it to come back again.  I lost a hour there.  I also lost a hour from the vamps and aliens not getting pregnant the first time.

So, I am really looking forward to reading what glazeylady did.  I'm still really happy with my score because if I didn't do all the practice I did for this, I would of been somewhere in the middle probably.  I pretty much stuck with the character values I chose, and didn't really experiment with that, so that may of been where I could of saved more time.

Like you, @christinal3106, I did a lot of practicing on this - almost too much as real life got very busy for me and I had to lock myself away on Sunday to finish.  But I was on a completely different track regarding the homework - thank you for sharing that tip - I never would have thought of that.  I focused on getting that requirement met by helping other kids with homework - Since there was no rule against adding to the household, I got my sim pregnant immediately and then moved them in with the Villareals - I picked them because I love that house, because it's easy to get a lot of Mansion Baron Satisfaction points there, and because of the 3 kids.  My sims could help Luna, Hugo and Max with homework prior to being at that step of the aspiration, and when they got to that step, the previous homework help counted.  It basically let me complete that requirement before my sim babies were born.

I used the Ley Line lot trait, kid's radio, kid's tv, fertility massage and Fertility reward to try to get multiple births, but ultimately I do agree that multiple kids wasn't all that critical, although I did find that the traits didn't always give both twins the same head-start on a value, and sometimes, even with everything else the same, one kid learned faster than the other.  I also used clubs with Rally the Troops and the Parenting Boost.  I used Comradery Boost as well - in my testing my sims learned Parenting faster when Very Happy than when Very Anything-else.  I had reading as one of the club activities, so the only things happening in the house were either specific to the Parenting aspiration, and reading.  Oh, and Hugo baked 3 cakes because someone always sneaks off and eats a slice from at least one and then you don't have a cake ready for candles when you need it!

I changed Jacques aspiration to Super Parent and had him achieve that before my sim's babes were born.  Max achieved 3 traits, completing Super Parent for Jacques.  My sims were at Level 10 Parenting before the births.  I limited labor by clicking on the bassinet and then on "Have Baby" as soon as my sim went into labor.  Then I used the Super Efficient Baby Care action to fill needs, aged them to toddlers and then immediately to children.  I gave them the Neat trait to boost Manners, added them to the club, rallied the troops, and locked the kids, the parents and Jacques in a room.  Keeping Super-Parent Jacques nearby gave quicker gains to the kids.  Once it was clear which child was going to get the Manners and Conflict Resolution sooner, I stopped teaching the other and let the parent who wasn’t teaching focus on getting into Full Parent mode using interactions with the other child and with Luna and Hugo.  When Manners and Conflict Resolution were complete, I aged the child to a teen, giving the Perfectionist trait to boost Responsibility, and then had him/her work on a School project while being encouraged by a parent with Jacques playing games on the computer nearby.  By the time Responsibility was high enough, aging him/her up with 3 character values was the only thing left for the Super Parent Aspiration for both parents.

Congratulations, @GlazeyLady!

My only contribution to the question of how to get 4 hours helping with schoolwork is that working on a child's project counts for that. Curious to see the other strategies.

@MarianT Working on a school project does not help with the 4 hours of homework.  That is something I checked as well.  I also didn't think of moving in with other people.  That is something I have to keep in mind for the future if it is allowed.

That's odd -- it worked for me. Maybe it did because I had the parents work on the project after they helped with homework.

Hmmm.. yeah that is interesting.  I might make a game to look into that.  Ok, so I did just go see, and it did in fact count for it.  I don't know maybe I didn't give it the hour.  @MarianT

Working on school projects helped with my sims hours helping with homework, too.

Wow, I didn't know that there is a club perk that boosts parenting skill.  Good to know for my next dynasty attempt. :o
