A Townie Dynasty with Leeway: In the Words of Patrick Henry
« Reply #2 on: December 19, 2017, 09:27:24 PM »
Prologue: In the Words of Patrick Henry…

Our story begins at a teeny-tiny home in Willow Creek called Crick Cabana.

At the side of the house, an elderly man carefully prunes his bonsai tree.
So much intense concentration and so much care, just to make his bonsai appear as if it's effortlessly realistic!

Elder: There, it's done! And now a haiku in commemoration:
Bonsai paradox.
Pruning, shaping the branches
To look natural.

Elder: Who me? I'm just a nameless senior citizen tasked to kick off a new dynasty.
No, silly, I'm not the founder!

To paraphrase the words attributed to Patrick Henry: Give us liberty, or give us death!
Well, okay, I can absolutely do without the death part.

Anyway, without further ado...

Liberty: I am sooooo over this love triangle with Summer for Travis!
He ain't even all that! Summer, you can have him!

Summer: Right, as if you ever even had a chance!

Liberty: I mean, come on, folks! Why does Summer always hog Travis' computer?
Everyone knows that Travis and I are the geeks in this household!

And it never fails!
When one of them is on the computer, the other sneaks into my room to snatch my slablet!
What's a gamer girl gonna do?

Watcher: I've got an idea for you, Liberty! How would you like to move out and found your own dynasty?
Liberty: Who me? Always-the-bridesmaid-never-the-bride Liberty Lee? You would pick ME?

Watcher: You're perfect, Liberty! Let's use "Change Sim" to get you a makeover.
Liberty: Hey! Thanks for replacing my Goofy walk for a Feminine one!

Watcher: You ready to go out and embark on a romantic conquest, girl?
Liberty: You don't need to ask me twice!

I'm So excited!!! Liberty Lee is a FANTASTIC choice, I can't remember anyone picking her before.. and what a terrific way to introduce the dynasty with "The Elder". I love coming into a story at the very beginning.. then it doesn't take me WEEKS to catch up on all the great writing! Good luck!

Thank you both for your enthusiasm, ladies. I must confess that this style of gameplay has me shivering in my timbers, lol.

MarianT started her "A Townie Dynasty with Zest" story with an elder in order to introduce the various challenge rules.
I recently re-read the first few generations of her story and "borrowed" her idea.

As for Liberty, the Change Sim feature allowed me to change her walk without using a cheat, so I'm very happy to lose her Goofy walk.

Wolf, I have missed you and your storytelling so much these past months! I'm so glad you're back!

I love Liberty Lee. She was one of my test Sims during development of the Ten-Gen Townie Dynasty, so she's a natural for this. Just don't marry her to Johnny Zest and then have triplets -- his trailer isn't large enough. :)

@PeregrineTook
I hope you'll continue to enjoy this new story.

@MarianT
Haha, ever since you shared your experience with Liberty/Johnny and their triplets, I laugh out loud to myself whenever I remember it.
A new forum dynasty challenge always takes some time to get used to the rules, but I'm internalizing them a little at a time.

A Townie Dynasty: Liberty's Pursuit of Happiness (12/20 new)
« Reply #9 on: December 20, 2017, 09:45:07 AM »
1.1: Liberty's Pursuit of Happiness

Week 1/Sunday

Liberty: Thanks for coming with me to Desert Bloom Park! I wanted to take photos of you both!
(Hmmmph! Traveling was the only means of dragging them away from their gaming…)

Travis: Something fishy is going on, isn't it? What's with the makeover?
And why aren't you following me around as usual, begging for attention?

Summer: Why do you care about her when you have me, Travis?

Travis: There! Happy now? I'm bringin' sexy back! (Yeah)

Summer: Well, okay. I guess I can pose for you, too, Liberty.

Travis: And don't forget to take a selfie of yourself, too!
Liberty: No kidding! Dang, I look fiiiiine in this big hair!

Liberty: Oh, double darn! First of all, I expect to catch more frogs since I'm a geek.
Secondly, I was trying so hard to observe @reggikko's tip about avoiding other neighborhoods.

But since I already live in Willow Creek, avoiding Magnolia Blossom Park has no effect. Durrrr.
Eh, whatever! Desert Bloom Park has better frogs anyway.

Travis (internally): I'd never realized before just how pretty Liberty is…

Liberty (internally): I'd never realized before just how boring Travis is…
Good thing the challenge rules don't allow marriage between roomies.
I might have made an irreparable error in judgment.

Miko: What's Liberty up to? We only stayed at Planet Honey Pop! for 2 minutes.
Summer: Yeah, Liberty took a quick look around the place then hightailed it outta there.

Travis: Well, where's she running off to now? Karaoke with Ananya Jang?
Liberty: Hardly!

Liberty: Hey, you! I've been hoping to run into you tonight.
Akira: You have? But I have the jealous trait. You'll just end up rejecting me eventually.

Liberty: Are you listening to me? I've kind of got my heart set on you.

Liberty (internally): Let my dynastic commitment never be doubted.
I absolutely hate country music but here I am singing a duet with Akira.

Akira (internally): Ugh, country music! I guess Liberty's singing level must be super low.

Joaquin: Look, kiddo. I'm telling you this for your own good.
Travis: Travis. My name's Travis. What do you have to say?

Joaquin: If you value your life, you'll stop singing right now. Look at your audience!
They're on the verge of strangling you for your awful crooning.

Liberty: Meanwhile, Akira and I are getting to know each other.
In case you've forgotten, I am a clumsy, geeky bookworm.
On the other hand, Akira is self-assured, romantic, and jealous.

One thing leads to another.

Liberty: *whispers seductively to Akira

Travis: Look at those two, carrying on in public like that! Just shameful!

Akira: Are you kidding me? I'd love to be your boyfriend, Liberty!
Liberty: What a relief! I'm not exactly sure what's going on between you and Miko.

Akira: Between Miko and me? Nothing at all. I'm a jealous romantic and Miko's a serial romantic.
If that's not a recipe for a disaster, what is?

Good job, Liberty! You have the "Ask to Move In" and "Propose" options.
But your museum collection's still 4 items short and you badly need to sleep.

Liberty: Let me give my guy something to remember me by before I head home to sleep.

Monday

I must confess that many aspects of this challenge are quite puzzling to me.
For example, Travis arrives home from work, throwing off green fumes from low hygiene.
But does he goes inside and shower? No! He stands on the sidewalk and stinks.

Liberty returns home dead tired after a 9-hour shift in her Astronaut career.
After a short nap, she hits various spots in search of Akira.

Although the map shows him to be out, she finally knocks on his door to find him at home gaming.
How are you feeling about Akira, Liberty? Are you sure he's The One?

Liberty: I can't shed the nagging feeling that romantic sims are bad news.
But, hey, I'm on a clock here. Tick tock, tick tock.

Liberty: I know we just met yesterday, Akira, but I think we make a good match.
Akira: Why such a rush, girl? Shouldn't we date for a few months before getting serious?

Liberty (sighs): Well, realistically, yes, but I'm founding one of those dynasty thingies.
I don't have "a few months," Akira. What I have is, let's see, eight sim-days.
So what I want to know is: do you want to raise a family with me?

Akira: Wait, what? You're asking me to become a dynasty spouse?
Not just a live-out baby daddy, but an honest-to-goodness dynasty spouse?
Yaaaasssss! Let's elope this very minute!

Liberty: Wait until tomorrow, silly! I still have a few tasks left.

Tuesday

Back home, I have trouble sleeping. How will I juggle everything?
My Astronaut career alone is so demanding and soon I'll become a wife and mother.

Unable to sleep, I get out of bed and quit my job. Now my future seems slightly more do-able.

Liberty: Your invitation for breakfast at Shimuzu really surprised me, Akira.
Did Travis or Summer tell you that this is my favorite restaurant?

Akira: Haha, no. Actually, it's my fave restaurant but I'm so glad to hear it's yours, too!
And by the way, Liberty, you look simply ravishing. Wow!

Liberty: Akira, we've finished our nectar but our food is taking too long!
Would you mind leaving now and coming with me to the Lee Museum?

Akira: Of course not. Let's be on our way.

A big thank you to @saltpastillen for generously sharing her museum! It's fantastic!

Akira: So this is your museum exhibition space?
Liberty: Yes, I know it's not very impressive. It's the best I could do at such short notice: 10 Whirlyflower Frogs.
But our child shall learn to paint so that portraits, not photos, of you and me will hang in this museum.

Akira: Now, can we get married, Liberty? I know just the place!
Let's travel to the Lost Garden of Healing.

Within the garden's intimate tranquility, Akira and I exchange our wedding vows.

Once I've moved in, Akira leaves for work and I head to the bedroom with the double bed.
I lock the bedroom to everyone except Akira and me and claim one side of the bed.
Then, I move the computer and desk out of Miko and Darling's room to our bedroom.
There! That's all I can do for now!

This apartment is a bad fit for someone with the Nerd Brain aspiration (like me).
I'll need to find other ways to earn my 50 points!

Liberty Lee's Starting Stats:

Satisfaction: 450 points
Household funds:  $10,028
Skills: L3 Logic, L2 Charisma
Designated skill: Logic
Aspiration: Nerd Brain
Job: None (quit Astronaut career)

Liberty is just so pretty!!
I so enjoyed how you wrote Travis and Summer.  They were delightfully ridiculous  :=)
I really appreciate how effortlessly strategy banter works its way into the narrative.  I've considered the TGTD multiple times, but I just don't think I'd be able to handle a household full of uncontrolled Sims!  I'll look forward to seeing/reading/hearing how that goes for you and how you handle it.

@Shewolf13
I'm eager to meet the heir too but am also a bit uncertain about moving ahead. I've never played the ISBI Challenge and I'm an OCD micro-manager of my sims, so this challenge will be...well...super challenging, lol.
Also, I'm looking forward to your choice of founder and their spouse!

I've never played the BFFs household before. I laughed at how the three of them would stand there shooting meaningful glances at each other whenever they arrived somewhere after traveling.
Funny you should mention "strategy" because I got nothing! And, unless Liberty can fit a rocket ship kit on the Karaoke Legends' balcony, she can never complete her Nerd Brain aspiration.

@KTK10
I've actually been quite a fan of Travis in his role as dynasty helper because he's quite the supporter! But I needed to give Liberty a compelling reason to move out, haha.
And, yes, I love Liberty in the big hair and she looks great in that white obi dress as her formal wear.
She no longer resembles the original Liberty Lee much but, hey, she's the founder! She deserves to look classy, imho.

I'm so glad you got rid of Liberty's goofy walk. Not that it matters when you're reading a story, but it always annoys me in game.

About the rocketship section of the Nerd Brain aspiration -- you could buy it for her and just not build it, maybe. And use the rocket ships at GeekCon to pick up the 5 trips/upgrades. Also, there's a rocket ship at the Science Building.

I also love the expressions on Summer and Travis's faces.

lol, I know what ya mean XD Actually, in my game, the heir has been born.  I'm a lot like you, as far as micromanaging.  In some ways, it's very freeing.  And it's fun to watch what happens when they do their own thing.  One of the ways I'm keeping myself sane is thinking of the free days.  You build up until a free day, get to play everyone and then it's all about building up until the next free day.  So if you can think about it that way, it's not so bad.  And seeing how they interact without your interference is pretty cool.

@MarianT
A very quick note to say that the rocket ship kit can only be purchased if there's space on the lot to place it. So, that's a no-go for the Karaoke Legends' apartment.
Their balcony lacks about 2 tiles in length to fit the rocket ship kit.

@Shewolf13
I haven't practiced this challenge at all so will need to see how to pace the acquisition of points. Let's cross our fingers that the early age-up of teen heirs will be allowed. :D

Well, she could get some rocket ship work done by taking the science career or by hitting GeekCon.  Not sure if that would be quite enough, but it might help her along the way, maybe?

I did one practice run and my founder had twins XD which was insane.  I stopped and started the real file.  Out of curiosity, do you happen to know if gravestones remain?  I know it didn't use to, but with the new settings in being able to determine how many Sims remain, do tombstones remain?

@Shewolf13

I believe @MarianT would be the one who could best answer your question. I don't usually play ghosts and haven't even made a cemetery in my recent games.
In her Straud Dynasty, Marian had her sims gather the urns of as many out-of-household family members as possible, laying them to rest in a family cemetery.
She's sure to know how the new "Maximum Sim Count" feature influences the viability of tombstones.

@PeregrineTook

The problem is not earning levels in the Rocket Science skill; it's the "Own a rocket ship" goal because the Karaoke Legends' balcony is too small to place the rocket ship kit.
MarianT has since suggested that Liberty buy a retail, restaurant, or vet clinic lot then placing the kit on that empty lot.

Thanks ^^ Just thought I'd ask here.  I did read her Straud dynasty, but wasn't sure about the new feature there.  I'm super excited to see how your challenge goes ^^  I really love Liberty's new hairstyle.

A Townie Dynasty with Leeway: Hello, Unexpected. Meet Unprepared.

1.2: Hello, Unexpected. Meet Unprepared.

Week 1/Tuesday

The very first thing I do is join the Scientist career.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle it, but it seems a better fit for Nerd Brain.

Liberty: I hear Darling return home from school and go downstairs to introduce myself.
How surprising to discover that Miko's off work today!
She's feeling very flirty from watching Romance TV. Just great!

I adopt Darling as a dependent but can't encourage her to do her homework…yet.
Apparently, Darling is more interested in conversing with the toilet than doing homework.

Liberty: There seems to be so much I need to do!
For now, I buy the toddler bookcase and three skill books: Logic, Parenting, and Wellness.

I'm still torn between Logic and Rocket Science as my designated skill.
If I choose Rocket Science, a future Whiz Kid heir could earn all 12 points in Logic.
But this is definitely NOT the lot for maxing Rocket Science, so I'll go with Logic.

Akira: So this is what being a dynasty spouse feels like!
New hair, new outfits…and I may not be controlled but at least I'm being watched!

Liberty: Watcher, did you have to get so enthusiastic about Akira's makeover?
Now, everyone and their mother will be hitting on him.
You have nothing to worry about, Liberty!
You just focus on your founder stuff and I'll try to keep Akira safe.

Liberty: You're absolutely right! I’m in the spotlight here.
Akira's merely basking in my reflected light!
That's the spirit!

By the way, how about a little show of gratitude for Miko's sleepwear?
Liberty: Ugh, don't remind me! That tiny croptop with those skimpy panties?

No, I mean her NEW post-makeover sleepwear: a t-shirt and long, baggy pants.
Liberty: Great news, Watcher! Do you mind if we chat again later?
Akira and I are trying for baby here…

Liberty: Guess who's eating for two?

Liberty: Did I already tell you that Akira works as a Chat Support Agent (Tech Guru 1)?
Perfect wife that I am, I ensure Akira completes his daily work task of video gaming.
Since I'm a geek, you can surely imagine what a hardship this is for me!

Akira: Hey, I just got a text message from some guy named Vladislaus.
Something about my yummy neck.
Liberty: Let's lock the front door to only allow household members, Akira.

Then who should arrive as a one-person Welcome Wagon but Vlad himself.
Not only that, but he's arrived empty-handed. Just ignore him!

Wednesday

Liberty: Despite a mild case of morning sickness, my first day at The Lab goes really well.
I even earn a promotion to Apprentice Inventor!

Liberty: Do you mind, Miko? I'm trying to finish my third book for Nerd Brain. This one's on Parenting.

Miko: We've hardly chatted, Liberty! You always seem to be so busy.
Liberty: And all you ever seem to do is watch romance TV or troll teh forums on your slablet.

Miko: Work, work, work. You're such a stereotypical Asian, Liberty!
Liberty: Don't say that, Miko. I'm paving the way for our household's success.

Liberty: *encourages Darling to do homework
Darling: Thanks for helping me with this homework, Liberty! My grades have been dropping lately.

Thursday

My co-workers are a bunch of oddballs, but I still love my job!

I can't tell if Tetsu here's insane or simply reacting to the serum I tested on him.

Liberty: You're looking mighty happy this evening, Akira.
Akira: Well, yeah! I got my first promotion at work today to Quality Assurance!
Technical chat support is such a thankless job!

Liberty: Hey, stop drinking so much coffee just because you received that new coffee maker!

The sacrifices I make to get my man some sleep when he's dead tired!
Luckily, Akira just zonks out afterward. And so do I.

Friday

Liberty: I come home from work with a promotion, feeling super optimistic!
This second promotion earns us a seventh point, bringing us ever closer to the first free day.

I guess Liberty didn't really need to invite Akira along to the hospital.
Dude, if you need to panic in the adjacent room, at least stand in front of the window!

Dr. Francisco Davila: Well, that certainly was a challenging procedure!
Was it as good for you as it was for me, Liberty?

Liberty: Seriously, triplets? We don't even have the On the Leyline lot trait.
And I never got a fertility massage either. Why? Whhhhyyyy!?

Gaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
I've never ever had an active household's sim give birth to triplets.
Why does it have to be during THIS challenge!? *resigns self to failure

Liberty: And this one here's our firstborn son! Akira, would you please name our boys?

Akira: Gladly! The heir's name shall be Cirius Lee.
Dr. Davila: Seriously?

Akira: Exactly!
Dr. Davila: What kind of name is that?

Akira: After the Dog Star, Sirius, except spelled with an initial "C" for extra flair.
Liberty: Akira, dear, come along. It's time to take our boys home!

Liberty: And here are all three of our little darlings: Cirius, Dud, and Mot.
Dud Lee was born second and Mot Lee was born last.

Akira: They're going to be a handful, Liberty! Thank Carl, we both have the weekend off!

Liberty: As soon as we get home, I rush upstairs to look after the boys.
Akira: I'm right behind you, sweetheart!

Impressive! Keep up that excellent yet autonomous parenting, Akira, and I will shower you with privilege and attention!

Author's Notes

* I'd initially planned to end this chapter at the first free day (after 3 more points) but…triplets.
* For now, I'm closing this chapter here to play through their weekend and see whether or not we're already doomed to failure.
Just for the record, I would really love to continue playing this household.
* Perhaps hiring a nanny will be a constructive means of delaying Liberty's 50 points until after Cirius the heir reaches his teen birthday.

Oh NO!! I really dislike it when the game throws you a curve ball like triplets! I makes the game more hard than fun! Well for me anyway.. all I can say is chin up.. if anyone can do this.. you can!!

Good heavens!  I'm sure triplets would be a delight for you in any other type of challenge.  A nanny sounds like a great idea.  Or maybe befriend a family-oriented Sim and invite him/her over to hopefully provide autonomous childcare?  Regardless of the clever scheme you employ, I'm sure you can do this.
Loved the names, by the way!  Bad puns are the best puns  :=)

Panic not. My 3rd or 4th generation in the Zest attempt had triplets, and he survived. Admittedly, this was before toddlers, but it can be done.
As long as someone is at home when Liberty goes to work, the babies won't go to daycare. So, your 1st free day, have Akira or Miko quit their job. While Liberty is at work, everyone's needs will be taken care of. Babies only get taken away if they're not fed. I know this because Johnny Zest totally ignored a screaming baby who needed a diaper change for about 8 hours. And infancy lasts only 3 days.
Toddlerhood is trickier. Don't expect to get top-notch toddlers. But again, if Liberty is at work and an adult or teen is at home, everyone's needs get met.
On the plus side, you'll get 1 point each time Liberty becomes good friends with each of them and 2 points each when they max potty training, so that's 9 points right there.
