The Dynamic Skilling Duo

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Goal
Since Vampires have such amazing skilling prowess, the team almost always bans them in challenges to level the playing field. For this event, Vampires are the skilling stars of the show and to add an interesting element you'll also create a Human or Alien to boost a score multiplier.

General Challenge Rules

Specific Challenge Rules
  • The Vampires game pack is required.
  • Create 1 Young Adult Vampire and one Young Adult Human or Alien Sim.
  • Your Human/Alien Sim cannot be converted to a vampire.
  • No household additions after leaving CAS, but CAS pets are allowed.
  • You are allowed to use the Buydebug cheat for the sole purpose of purchasing a satellite to prevent abductions.
  • This challenge concludes at Week 3, Day 1, 8 AM.

Scoring
For Vampire Skills give yourself 1 point for every maxed skill by your Vampire.

Mult. Everyone starts with a multiplier of 1.00. For every skill your Human or Alien maxes, add 5% (.05) to the multiplier. Note: Your household can work on the same skills, but the same skill you count for your Vampire Skills score cannot also count for the Mult. If the same skill is capped by both Vampire and Human/Alien, you would need to choose whether to take the 1 point vs adding to the multiplier.

Multiply Vampire Skills and Mult. together to get your Total.

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we may ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, MarianT, sdhoey, and LenaLJ) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner is expected to do so in detail.

This Event is Now Closed

Well, shucks. I don't have the vampire pack, so won't be able to participate in this challenge. Good luck to everyone on this one. Looking forward to the next challenge.

Do skills with only 5 levels count, or do they all have to be 10 level skills?

Any capped skill counts towards the Vampire Skills or the Mult.

*Rises from coffin* Did I hear you say you're letting us play with Vampires in this challenge @Metropolis Man?! You know that's my jam!  :D

Quote
Mult. Everyone starts with a multiplier of 1.00. For every skill your Human or Alien maxes, add 5% (.05) to the multiplier.

Because these multipliers always do my head in and my brain just can't do maths, let me see if I understand this correctly now, adding a 5% to the multiplier would bring the total to 1.5 % adding another 5% would bring it up to 2.00 and so forth correct?

Also when you say Vampire Skills, I assume you are referring to actual skills maxed by our Vampire, such as logic, charisma etc and not the Vampire Powers on the the Vampire Skill Tree? I'm pretty sure you mean the former but I just want this clarified to avoid future confusion.

Only one Vampire?  :(  Well there goes my plan of creating a Vampire army to take over this challenge and the world (Joke)

You can count on me joining this challenge Metro, fangs for letting me playing with Vampires again!  ;D *Poofs into a bat and flies off into the night*

No. Let's say at the end of the challenge your Human/Alien caps 6 different skills. You add .05 for each maxed skill. So, .05 X 6 = .30. You start with a multiplier of 1.00. 1.00 + .30 = 1.30 for your final multiplier.

I just took a bite out of your previous thinking!

Thanks for clearing up the whole multiplier scoring system for me @Metropolis Man, maths does weird things to my brain when I'm tired, lol.

I have a question, seeing as parenting is a skill are our Sims allowed to have kids for that reason? If so then would toddler and child skills count or this challenge purely for adult skills?

It's great that you are allowing pets and Vampires, we almost never get to play with either of them in challenges so I can't wait able to sink my teeth into this!  ;D

No kids allowed. From the rules...

  • No household additions after leaving CAS, but CAS pets are allowed.

So parenting is pretty much useless even though it is a skill. Unless you can use parenting on kids outside of the household, you'll have to max the skill with skill books. :-\

I'm just wondering how many CAS pets we are allowed, is there a limit? I'm asking this as a general question for all challenges in which we are allowed pets and seeing as this is one of them, I thought it would be good to ask here.

Oh and while I'm here ...

We can start in any season right? I haven't really seen any rulings on seasons and weather so I figured we could just choose our own.

Aside from the obvious household limit that pets add to, no restrictions.

My vampire maxed 7 skills and my human maxed 5 skills.

So 7 times the multiplier of 1 plus 5 times .05 is equal to

7 x 1.25 = 8.75

I maxed some skills that I don't normally use so it was a learning experience.  Thank you to the team for coming up with such imaginative challenges.

My vampire maxed 18 skills; My non-Vampire maxed 6 skills.

18 * (1+(6*.05)) = 18 * 1.3 = 23.4

My vampire maxed 8 skills, and my human maxed 4 skills.

8 times the multiplier of 1
+ 4 X .05
So:
8 x 1.20 = 9.60

This was a fun challenge team, as always 8)!

My Vampire, the Lord of Darkness himself, maxed 23 skills and his lovely human wife maxed 11 skills.  :)

Ah darn, now I gotta do maths, lemme see here ...

Well ... that's my calculator says anyway and I'm too tired for all this maths nonsense, I hope this is right.  :-\

My sim activated 11 relics. I won't lie here, I was hoping for a much better result. Oh well, I never have any good luck with 'chance' challenges. Off to the skills one - I am usually much much better in those!

Those were my words when I finished the previous challenge :D And I won't lie again - I was hoping for the first place in this one. But the fate decided to make me bite the dust again and gave me some horrible luck one more time, which is why I failed all my strategy and ended up with a very unexpected result, where the Human sim scored more than the Vampire one. So, I will tell you the "expectation - reality" story here.

First, I prepared a list of all skills in the game - I found 37 in total. Then I did some maths to find out what is the very maximum score possible if both sims max all 37 skills, but with a different ratio between human and vampire - and I found out that the two best cases were 28 vampire vs 9 human, or 29 vampire vs 8 human (both of these would give a score of 40.60). So that is what I was aiming for.

Next, besides the very obvious skill boosts (traits, club rewards, vampire perks, potions, etc.), I was planning to get the most powerful skilling tool - the Snaggle Fluster drink. It is a hidden drink that can be unlocked when your sim is at level 9 in the Culinary career (Mixology branch), has level 10 Mixology skill and gets a special chance card while at work. So my idea was to raise my Vampire up to these levels, get the recipe and quickly max everything she could. With the Connections reward, I thought that I have more than enough time, given the fact that we also have the Wishing Well which can grant instant promotions. I use it a lot in challenges, and usually get great results. However... this time, the well only gave me a SINGLE promotion during the whole two weeks of playing, although I used it every 8 hours!  >:( It just always filled my performance bar up to the maximum, but I still needed to visit the office to get this promotion. And the Culinary career has a very weird schedule with lots of 2 and 3-day breaks, so I wasted a lot of time on waiting. I only managed to get to level 9 in the very last day of playing, and didn't even get that chance card for the recipe  :'(

On the other hand, my human sim had great luck with the well, wishing for skill boosts. At least once in every 3 or 4 tries, he was getting an instant level 10 in some skill. So he ended up with a lot of skills maxed, and this is how he outperformed the poor vampire. If I knew that beforehand, I would just skip the career for her and just stick to the same wishes for skills.

I don't really know what happened to the well this time. It definitely isn't random, nor it depends on the amount of money granted (I always gave 5,000). I have something in mind, but I will still need to test it further.

Because I have over ten pages worth of notes here, I'm going to split my strategy up into sections as a day by day account would take too long. I used a combination of Traits, Lot traits, Club perks/boosts, Vampire powers, Reward traits and Mixology drinks, I also made sure my Sims were in the right Very Emotional state for whatever skill they were working on.

Set Up: I toggled through the Fortune, Family, Animal, Love and Vampire Aspirations and when building their house I knocked out a lot of whims to buy stuff, giving Delilah (Human) enough points to purchase Morning Sim and her husband Sylus Morning Sim and Speed Reader. They formed a Club, then I had them renew their wedding vows (I made them a married couple in CAS) and admire their new possessions (Both had the Materialistic trait) to get them in a very good mood. I bought them a Wishing Well and they both wished for skills. Sylus maxed out Mixology immediately, Delilah only got a four hour skill boost.

Vampire Powers: I set Sylus to work on the Vampire Lore skill as soon as possible, using Speed Reader, the Peace and Quiet lot trait and having him be very focused (Research Simpedia) while reading the books. He was done that evening so I took them both to the Narwhal Arms in Windenburg. By this time he had Bat Form, Occult Student (Maxed), Cause Hallucination and one or two ranks (I forgot which) in Child Of The Moon. He spent the night casting Cause Hallucination to rank up until he had enough points to max out Child Of The Moon. He also sparred with Lilith to complete a milestone and used to Dark Meditation to replenish energy. Delilah, in the meantime was painting on the easel outside the bar (Which is why I chose that place).

Clubs: I set the Club activities to whatever skill they were working on at the time, reading and Vampire powers, sometimes changing them depending on what they were doing at the time. I bought Rally the Troops asap, I also bought a skill boost for every level ten skill and the Focused vibe was purchased within the first couple of days. The Club was running all the time.

Rewards: Delilah's first skill was Painting so she could paint emotional paintings and knock out the Fortune and Painting milestones quickly. This way they both had Morning Sim and Night Owl by the end of the first day, they both got Savant not long after that, I wanted to get those rewards asap.

Lot Traits: I used all of the skill boosting lot traits, switching them when needed. Sylus worked on skills that could be boosted by lot traits during the day, but the ones that didn't have lot traits associated with them he did at night so they would get the Child Of The Moon boost instead.

Emotions: My Sims were always in the Very Emotional state needed for whatever skill they were doing, I used the following to help them get there. For overall happy boosts I made them admire possessions, decorations, woohoo, renew vows, reminisce, listen to music or donate to charity (Both had the Good trait). Rally the Troops helped keep their needs high, Woohoo was for fun and social and they washed their hands for hygiene. For other emotions I used Incense burners Cloud/Stargaze, Research on Computer, Emotional paintings and Club Vibes, Sylus dug up a MySims trophy to help his wife with the Playful Painting. I later switched to Emotion Potions when they purchased all the rewards I wanted them to have.

Festivals: I used these to my advantage, Geekcon was first so I had Sylus whip up some Sunlight Reversal Cocktails and Amygdelights, they both drank these before leaving. I quickly had Sylus Ponder Moves before he left, when they arrived he started a Club Gathering, setting a Focused Vibe to overcome the Energized moodlet from the Vampire drink. By the time they left Delilah had level 6 in Rocket Science and Sylus had level 6 in Programming and a shiny new computer from winning the Hack-a-thon! Next week they went to the Humour and Hijinks festival, in a Club gathering of course, Delilah joined the Light Side and told jokes to raise Comedy while her husband drank the Dark tea and pranked everyone for Mischief gain. They both maxed their respective skills before the festival finished.

Other Stuff: I gave them two pets, a Dog named Wolf so Delilah could max the Pet Training skill (Which she did) and Cat named Goose to keep Wolf company, the pets had the automatic feeder and laser litter tray to save time. The Amygdelight drink was drunk regularly to help my Sims master the Rocket Science, Programming, Video Gaming and Logic skills faster. Delilah maxed all the Minor (Level 5) skills and a few level 10 ones, sadly she fell just short of maxing Flower Arranging, finishing at level 9.  :'(

I think that's everything ... I think, I had SO MUCH strategy for this challenge (Literally a different one for each skill) that I have probably left something out, but I hope not, lol. I'll post some statistics, detailing exactly what skills were done, traits they had etc in another post later tonight as this post is getting way too long and it's dinner time here. I hope you enjoy reading and I'll be back later.  :)

Incense Burner
Lot Traits
Emotion Potions

I switched from the Incense Burner to the Emotion Potions permanently once my Sims had all the reward traits I felt they needed and after the stupid things caused a fire. (Good thing I had a Sprinkler System installed). >:( Said potions were also good for switching moods quickly and overcoming the +3 Energized moodlet Sylus got whenever he drank a Sunlight Reversal Cocktail.

I played in Autumn (Which the game refers to as Fall as it's known in America) in Forgotten Hollows so Sylus could be outside more often during the day without always having to rely on that drink. Of course I always kept a Sunlight Reversal Cocktail or two on him whenever they traveled as the weather varies each world. My Sims did keep trying to woohoo in leaf piles so I had to put a stop to that, lol.  ::) Both of them visited Selvadorada so Delilah could get that skill done, her husband played games on his tablet while waiting. I made certain he could do a skill on the go when it came time for her to do this.

The Garlic Immunity power I bought for Sylus was a random impulse buy, he was out fishing one night and caught some garlic, he had one Vampire point left over so I bought him that, just in case lol!

Sadly Wolf their German Shepherd passed away two days before the challenge ended, R.I.P Wolf.  :'( Regrettably there was no time to mourn and they had to drink their moodlet solvers and carry on. I did use a few of those and sometimes I used Hygiene or Fun potions too.

I did have them use the Wishing Well again towards the end of the challenge but it only gave them both a few levels in skills that one of them had already done. I was trying to get Delilah to finish her Flower Arranging skill but to no avail, she came very close in the end though!

I think that's everything now, phew!  ;D

Fangs @Metropolis Man for letting me play with Vampires in a challenge again, I'm used to play Vampire/Human or Vampire/Vampire couples so not only was this a lot of fun, it was fangtastic!  :D I thought I'd post a few funny things that happened to me in this challenge just for the laughs even though some of them did give me quite the scare!

The Wishing Well did not appreciate Delilah's donation of $1000 simoleons the first time she made a wish but it was all they had left, it reacted negatively and I almost backed out on wishing but decided to commit and she got the neutral result of a four hour skill boost. It almost scared me away when it did that!

The Incense Burner caused a fire and my big bad Vampire ran screaming out of the house while he wife dealt with it.  ::)

Delilah accidentally became hysterical for a while at the Humour and Hijinks Festival, I let her have a little break from telling jokes and luckily one of her moodlets wore of a few minutes later bringing her back down to very playful. Thankfully this happened when she was almost done anyway. I forgot how many playful moodlets your Sim can get through being funny and it scared the life out of me when that happened!

When Sylus was cooking and baking up a storm, that darn cat of theirs kept laying in front of the fridge, blocking him, despite having a cat bed! I just went into buy mode and shifted the fridge where he could get to it, lol.  ::)

I had a blast playing with Vampires again even though they did drove me batty!  ;)

I just realized I forgot to mention the pets traits.

Wolf (Dog)

Smart
Independent
Active

Maybe this isn't important anymore but I don't like leaving out details, because Wolf was a smart dog he learned the tricks faster and he didn't need walks thanks to his other traits, preferring to run around the house instead, lol. (I had planned to take the dog jogging of he needed to be walked so I could have a Sim work on the Athletic skill at the same time).

Like @Nikitachi I also thought about entering my Sim in the Mixology career to get the Snaggle Fluster drink, but in the end I decided my Vampire's time would be better spent skilling instead. The problem with that career is that Sims in it are usually on the night shift and that meant Sylus wouldn't be able to take full advantage of his Child Of The Moon power, hence why I decided against it. I must admit it was a very good strategy and I applaud Nikitichi for being brave enough to try it, great idea!  :)

@Nikitachi Did you use the Amygdelight drink? I combined it with the Geekcon festival for maximum effect and I've been wondering if anyone else used the Mixology drinks too.

I must admit I made a mistake with Delilah, she became a one star Celebrity because I forgot to turn it off in the options (I had only just installed Get Famous and wasn't used to it) and she became a phone addict who was constantly on her phone. I think that slowed down her skilling a bit and I took too long to remove that quirk. I sometimes wonder if she would have completed the Flower Arranging skill if I hadn't goofed like that. (She was at ninety something percent when the challenge ended, so frustrating, lol!).  :-\

Anyway, I hope everyone doesn't mind me posting again, I just wanted to add that bit in about the pets because it was bothering me.

Sure I did! And Prose and Pops too :D But without the festival - I didn't even know it boosts anything. I should examine the festivals more thoroughly...

I usually never create pets in CAS if I just need the Pet Training skill. Instead, I add the lot trait that invites stray dogs to the lot (sorry, don't remember the name) for a few days and just train them. The same goes for cats if I need to complete the feather collection. The reason is that extra lot members always quite bother and distract me. Once I played with a cat, completed the feather collection and gave the cat away -_- After that, I felt so rubbish that I decided not to create one anymore unless really needed.
