Yes, I found the oddest outfits and hairstyles for my self-employed sims that shouldn't have career outfits, writers, painters, fisherman. It was pretty crazy.

Loved the update and Rose is darling. I especially like her potential spouse as I also have a thing for red haired sims! Good luck with the ginger snap Rose!

That's really interesting! I'll keep an eye on Nile's outfits from now on. He still wears that speedo most of the time, of course...

I don't always (or often) go for red-haired spouses, but this particular shade of red is just so bright and birdlike, I think I might have to have it. Hopefully the kiddo gets some good traits as well!

Who does the red-haired boy belong to? But if Rose gets heirship then we may have finally lost those Sargent cheeks at last! (Mixed feelings on that one...they're Iconic)

Anyone want to guess who the boy's parents are? :)

Oh you're right, she doesn't have the Sargeant cheeks! I didn't even think about that. Now she's looking even more promising as a potential heir. I have mixed feelings about those cheeks too...I liked them at first, but I'm getting a bit weary of them.

Chapter 43 – Fishing Expeditions

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ah, more toddler spam. Didn’t I post another picture exactly like this in the last chapter? Or do I just have so many in my screenshots folder, I can’t keep track? Either way, I don’t care, because Desert Rose is adorable.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And here’s yet another picture of Caspian teaching his niece to potty. I like this one because you can see Caspian’s slightly shiny musculature.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Francine and Clover have been bonding lately. Francine is always checking up on her daughter, asking how her day was, and Clover is always interrupting her by swatting her with a pillow. Francine is good-natured about it. It works out.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile and Canyon have been bonding, too—in their weird, insane way.

Canyon: “Wow, Canyon, you can be so ANNOYING sometimes!”
Nile: *transcribes Canyon’s self-dialogue for use in satire novel*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

One evening, as I’m speeding through everyone’s bedtime routines, I happen across Clover playing pretend while wearing her astronaut costume. Aww, how cute! And she’s outside under the night sky. Wait a second—Clover, are you—

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

—are you ON THE ROOF?

Yep. She’s on a section of roof jutting out over the front door. To this day, I have no idea how she got up there. There are no doorways from the second floor, no stairs, nothing. I guess she just glitched herself out there when I wasn’t looking and decided to pretend it was the moon.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Excuse me, watcher? I can’t get off the roof…”

And whose fault is that, Captain Clover? *sigh* I guess I’ll have to teleport you back to earth.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clover loves to play pretend in broad daylight, too. Nile picks up this spring rider for Rose to try out, but Clover makes it there first and occupies it for most of the weekend.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose has something else to ride—her new stroller that happens to match her color scheme. She seems to absolutely love it, based on this cute little giggle-and-shimmy she does every few seconds while riding it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys, by contrast, is having a bit of a hard time.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose and Clover also find time to be cute together. Clover is a sweetheart and pays lots of attention to her little cousin, just like Skyler did for her.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Whenever I leave Caspian and Canyon alone, they end up awkwardly trying and failing to get along.

Caspian: “Come on, faster, you namby-pamby! Get up on those skinny legs! The treadmill doesn’t need the workout, YOU do!”

Canyon: “Quiet, Uncle. I’m concentrating VERY HARD to figure out what these little numbers mean.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler’s shiny new Angler trait inspires him to try fishing for the first time. He heads out to the ravine behind the house to give it a try. It…doesn’t go very well.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It’s a good few hours before he catches his first goldfish.

“Would you look at that—a goldfish. Four hours of standing in the boiling sun for a goldfish. Great. I love this hobby.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys takes things into her own hands and invites her son out to her favorite fishing spot.

Skyler: “Mom, where are we going?? *pant, pant* Didn’t we pass the town line, like, two miles ago??”

Gladys: “You’ll see. Keep up, now!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler: “Mom, this is literally just a hole in the sand with some water in it. You seriously brought me all the way out here for this?”

Gladys: “Just wait, Skyler. Fishing is about patience and persistence. Give it some time before you start complaining.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Well, Skyler doesn’t give it a lot of time. He needs a bathroom break (or so he says), so he takes off for the nearest house. There are a surprising number of houses out here in the middle of nowhere.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The first house he sees happens to be the bright pink concoction inhabited by the Lancasters. There, he meets the famous Leah, who is several days older than him and miraculously still single. Skyler and Leah hit it off and express attraction for one another, but Leah has to head to work before things can go too far.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After Leah leaves, Skyler spots a girl swimming at the neighborhood pool and decides to say hello. It’s Lacie Diwan! And she shows interest in Skyler, too.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I’m happy about this (I’ve been keeping an eye on Lacie because of her great genes and definite cuteness, you may remember), but I’m not so happy when Skyler starts “boasting about his fishing feats” (you caught one fish, dude) and Lacie openly yawns. She proceeds to yawn over the next five things that Skyler says to her. Not cool.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler’s final stop is the home of his childhood best friend, Karina Vasquez-Arellano. They shake hands like normal people, and nothing happens. Then Karina turns around to lead Skyler into the house, and Skyler goes “Ooohhh.”

So Skyler finds all three girls he met today “Attractive Company”, and they all feel the same way about him. All right, Skyler, I see you. Quite the ladies’ man, aren’t we?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler ends up spending the rest of the evening at Karina’s house instead of rejoining his mother at the fishing hole. At least he can talk about TV shows with Karina’s father (from whom she got most of her looks, it appears).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I try to have Skyler start flirting with Karina in the backyard, but as soon as he does so, the grill starts smoking (I guess Karina was cooking hot dogs). Then Karina’s mother comes out and starts playing guitar ten feet away. I feel like there are a lot of conflicting signs from the universe here—the hot dogs, the potential fire, the serenading—and I don’t know how to interpret any of them.

Skyler goes home with a few interesting wishes in his wish slots. He pops several wishes for Leah—to learn her sign, to become good friends with her, to invite her over, to whack her with a pillow—but he also pops a wish to kiss Lacie for the first time. I would consider that the strongest sign of interest, but I happen to dislike Lacie for yawning in Skyler’s face, so I’m not sure I’ll let him pursue her for that. Skyler doesn’t pop any wishes for Karina. Maybe the serenading scared him off.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At least one of the Kindle children has a simple love life. Canyon’s boyfriend Bryan has become quite a fixture in the household—he comes over all the time and has even become friends with Clover, playing tag with her for as long as she wants.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I guess you could say Canyon is pretty happy with his life right now? I think? I don't know. :o

More weirdness to come in the next one!

My solution for Skyler would be to kiss Lacie for the sweet 1,000 LTHP and dump her as karma. :P Too bad about Karina firing zero wishes for him but I have a soft spot for the cute and chubby ones in the Spousal Races.

Hmmm as for the red-haired baby, which Lancaster was Leah born to again? Maybe he's a later Lancaster kidlet from either the mother or daughter, since obviously red hair runs in that family (I remember colors but not names! Sad!) So not a sibling but maybe a bizarre uncle or nephew.

Rose! Rose! She's so freakin adorable!
Clover is the definition of a dedicated aspiring astronaut. I love her.

I agree with Trip. Sweet, sweet revenge and the points aren't bad either. I tend to enjoy causing chaos in my games though.

I'm glad to see Canyon and Bryan are doing well! They're so cute together and it's so sweet Bryan befriended Clover.

Oh! Is the red-head boy's mother Sammi Claremont? They have similar eyes.

I like this idea. I like it a lot. I'll see what I can do. :) And Karina isn't out of the running yet––Skyler still has about a week as a teenager, and he's still waffling between all three girls. He may end up surprising us.

Leah was born to Lola Lancaster, but the red-haired boy is actually not a Lancaster! Great guess, though.

That's two votes for revenge! :D And yes, Clover has made it very clear what her dream career is right now. We'll see if that's what she wants when she's older. (I wouldn't be surprised.)

Nope, it's not Sammi Claremont, though their eyes really do look similar!

I may or may not have been dropping some hints in that "Two Princes" chapter. ;) I'm glad you like them together! And is that a reference to the Jones RTJ? I completely forgot that the infamous Curtis was also a Shaw, and that he was from Lucky Palms. What a cool connection!

Yes, that was a Jones reference.  I always think of the Blake foetus as 'Curtis' now and was rather disappointed when he turned out to be straight in my Decadynasty (although it did mean that he contributed genes to the Steel bloodline, so it wasn't all bad).

Chapter 44 – Moon Happenings

Clover is learning to bake. She’s doing well, but—

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile: “Clover, could you stop coughing and hacking at the dinner table? I know you burnt your sugar cookies, but all that choking is very distracting.”
Clover: *cough* *gag*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile: “Oh man, this fruit parfait isn’t so great either…” *cough* *gag*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Anyway! When he's finished berating his niece for her natural human response to burnt cookies, Nile finally gets baby Rose on the spring rider, and he’s thrilled about it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Meanwhile, Caspian is out at the criminal warehouse—and when he leaves his shift in the middle of the night, he’s promoted to Master Thief, completing his Lifetime Wish. Go Caspian!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And what does he do to celebrate? He takes a bath in the mysterious abandoned tub outside the warehouse, of course. (Full disclosure: I make him do this, for my own entertainment.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clover is keeping busy in her elementary school days. She pops a wish to learn logic and another to use a telescope. Lucky Palms is a great place from which to observe the universe—there are always such gorgeous sunsets and interesting moon happenings.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Uh oh. Clover, what did you see?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gahh! Don’t look at ME, Clover! You’re not supposed to be able to see me!

“E-Exactly…”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Okay, I’m a little spooked now. Let’s go check on Desert Rose. Here she is looking like the happiest little clam there ever was. I don’t know why she keeps going behind the bar, but she certainly seems to like it back there.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Even though he’s reached the top of his career, Caspian still has ambitions. He gets an opportunity that requires him to learn the martial arts skill. Since he has a daughter (and now a niece) who is Disciplined, he figures it’s a good idea to start getting ready. He can’t have Clover beating him when she’s old enough to spar.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

But for now, Clover is still a little girl who gets tucked into bed by her mother most nights.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler, meanwhile, is still trying to figure out his love life. He goes to see Lacie Diwan at her house one evening and gives her flowers, just to see how she reacts.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“I’m really flattered, Skyler. You almost make me want to break up with my boyfriend.”

Uhhhhh. What? I have Skyler ask Lacie if she’s single, just to make sure, and it turns out she’s already dating someone—and not just anyone. She’s in a relationship with Leonard Kindle, Skyler’s cousin!

Well, that certainly throws a wrench into things.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ash has been making frequent appearances as a ghost. He often runs into Nile, since Nile is usually up all night writing his novels. The two of them watch TV together like old times and admire the spiky bush poking a singular leaf through the wall next to the TV.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Wait, Ash, how are you sitting on the couch AND haunting that floor lamp simultaneously?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Corrie: “Boo.”
Ash: “GYAHHH! Don’t DO that, Corrie! You’ll give me a heart attack!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Don’t be mad at Corrie, Ash! She’s just trying to reconnect with her son. See?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose is on somewhat of a nocturnal schedule too these days. She learns a lot more about ghosts in her toddler years than most sims learn in their lifetimes.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And because she is just so cute walking around…here’s another picture of her walking around.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It takes a few days of kicking the wooden dummy, but Caspian finally reaches a point where he can practice breaking oak boards. He also gets a snazzy new belt (which somehow looks oddly silly on him, in spite of its inherent sophisticatedness).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

All too soon, it’s Clover’s teen birthday! She ages up in the midst of a game of tag with a friend from school, which means she ages up right in front of the front door—a difficult spot to get good screenshots.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

See? Awkward haircuts, awkward angles all around.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

With a little work at the mirror, Clover transforms into a stunning young woman. I really love her face shape––I have a theory that she inherited it from her great-grandfather, Gaylord Koffi, but it's hard to know for sure. She also acquires a unique and lovely trait—Nurturing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

No one can look photogenic in a bathroom the way Clover Kindle can look photogenic in a bathroom.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There are three grown-or-nearly-grown women in the household, and Francine is not yet ready.

Francine: “I have to be ready. My daughter is going to KILL me with her bare hands if I’m not ready.”

Gladys: “Yeah, yeah. You’re just self-conscious about the fact that you’ll be an Elder in less than a week.”

Francine: “Shut up!”

I thought Clover's face was from Tori Kimura but now I'm with your theory too. Intervention from beyond the grave! (and not just Corrie haunting the lamp lol)

Curtis is forever in my heart too but I also haven't played in Lucky Palms in ages...the Shaw kid is untouched by my memories for now but I'm glad he gets to be his true self in every Random Town Jump. ;D

Clover did get a lot of her looks from Tori (and her mom is basically a Tori clone), but I went back and looked at all the ancestral face shapes and Gaylord is the only one with that wide, square jaw. It looks really lovely on Clover, so I'm thrilled about it. :)

I'm a fan of all the Curtis love! He was really something. This is making me want to go back and read the Jones RTJ for the 90th time...

Chapter 45 – Twenty-Eight Quick Drinks

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Let’s start off by checking in on Desert Rose. She’s learning to talk from Nile, the resident Speaker of Madness. (Let’s hope she doesn’t become Insane as a result of this. As much as I love Insane sims, two in the household is plenty for me!)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When the all-important TV breaks, Clover pops a wish to fix it. If she wants to be an astronaut someday, she’s going to need to know how to fix things like rocket ships, so a TV is an okay place to start. (Looks like she might need to learn how to fix her dress, too, while she’s at it. Or maybe the laws of physics.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Canyon’s birthday arrives and the family throws a party to celebrate. Even before the guests start coming, there’s a traffic jam behind the bar as half the family tries to make drinks. I’ve decided not to think too hard about what Caspian might be plotting.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The guests arrive and start dancing and socializing. It’s good to see some family members again! Karie’s looking radiant as ever.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Canyon starts getting down with Bryan and hardly speaks to anyone else for the rest of the party. Skyler, meanwhile, encounters Leah. He’s been popping a lot of wishes for her—I think she is his girl of choice at the moment, so when the two of them start flirting, I happily let it play out.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Leah has news for us, though. She’s acquired a boyfriend since we saw her last. It’s Rickie Tanner, one of the other five unborn babies at the start of the game. He stands right there and watches his girlfriend flirting with another man, and he doesn’t seem to mind at all. Nope, in fact, he CHUCKLES. Maybe he doesn’t have big plans for his relationship with Leah…but who knows? (Story Progression. Story Progression knows.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Canyon does not approve of his brother’s antics.

Canyon: “Ick. Can you not massage your girlfriend at my birthday party, dude?”
Skyler: “She’s not my girlfriend. That’s why I’m massaging her.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cake time! Everybody gathers around Karina Vasquez-Arellano, who is just trying to do her homework, poor thing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

(Hey look, it’s cousin Leonard on the far right, behind Bryan!)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Canyon ages up looking like a clone of his dad, yet again. (Have I mentioned that I am constantly getting Canyon and Nile mixed up? Yeah...)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Canyon finally grows into those cheekbones a little bit, or something. I dunno, he looks much handsomer to me now. I think a new set of eyebrows helps as well. Canyon rolls the Angler trait, oddly enough. Now he, Gladys, AND Skyler can go fishing together. Yay?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I have some plans for Canyon now that he’s a young adult, but for now, he’s staying put—at least until Bryan grows up also. In the meantime, let’s enjoy some more Desert Rose spam. (And Skyler spam. Skyler’s cute too, you know.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After the party ends, most of the family goes to bed, but in the wee hours of the morning I come across Caspian, still awake and drowning in party drinks. Like…drowning. I have no idea who felt the need to make SEVEN TRAYS of drinks (seriously, seven—there are two more on the bar and two more on the coffee table in the foyer). Caspian stands here at the table and drinks glass after glass, all. night. long.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Uh, Mom...what the heck are you doing??”

“Helping you get through these trays of drinks. You’ve barely made a dent and it’s almost dawn! I will NOT have my son looking like a lightweight in front of the forum."

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Fast forward to noon, and Caspian is STILL DRINKING. And “watching TV” from the backyard, somehow. And laughing at absolutely nothing. What DID you put in those drinks, man?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clover: "Dad, can you help me with this assignment for my health class? I'm supposed to ask around in my neighborhood and find out how many quick drinks people have on average per week."
Caspian: "Put me down for twenty-eight."

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Other family members are participating in more wholesome activities. As Gladys has a nice sleep-in, Rose finishes learning to talk with the help of daddy Nile. And with that, her toddler skills are in the bag with a whole several hours to spare.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That afternoon, it’s Canyon’s graduation. You can tell he’s grown up because the moment he gets his robes on, he scoops up baby Rose to make sure she gets to the ceremony safely.

“Let’s get you out of that puddle of pee, Rose. Let’s go to City Hall instead!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The rest of the family takes off running, leaving Canyon and Rose in the dust. Very considerate, everyone.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Canyon graduates with highest honors and wins Class Valedictorian. He also earns the title of Most Likely to Offend Others. Of course Canyon is excited about that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That night, Skyler calls up Lacie Diwan and invites her out for a quick date. There, he fulfills his wish to kiss her—and she immediately says “sorry, I have to go!” and disappears. I sort of wonder if these two had some sort of mutual understanding. At any rate, that’s the nail in that coffin. Farewell, future cousin-in-law!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At last, it’s time for Desert Rose’s birthday. She’s had a good long toddlerhood, and I think I’ve taken more pictures of her as a toddler than any other sim in recent memory. She is ready and excited to be a big girl.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Here she goes, all matchy-matchy with the carpet.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

She even ages up into her color scheme. What a gal.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Desert Rose is looking more and more like her mother—and possibly like Caspian? I guess that makes sense. Anyway, she picks up the Neat trait, which fulfills a longtime wish of mine. Finally, somebody in this household who will actually wash the dishes after dinner!

Still loving Rose's look, and Canyon's still making the best faces! I'm not sure what's up with graduation though. Sometimes it happens the very next day, other time days go by and you figure it's not happening, then the announcement shows up. In my Farmacy, Summer aged up on Thursday, her boyfriend Nolan on Friday, and her younger brother on Saturday, and early Sunday morning I get the graduation announcement and all three of them spin into robes and take off! Yet, in my TJ game, twins, one who aged before midnight, the other after, do not go to graduation together, just the one who aged up earlier. I am so confused! Wonder if he'll graduate before we have to town jump? I need to check at the NRaas site and see if maybe there's a setting for graduation. I am glad that Canyon picked Rose up out of the pee puddle though, ick!

Chapter 46 – Canyonot?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As a brand-new grown-up adult, Canyon must start thinking about the rest of his life and what he wants to do with it. On a couple of occasions, I find him contemplating Blaise’s old fire ax in the foyer. Hmmm. Interesting.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clover starts making use of that Disciplined trait under the watchful eye of Aunt Gladys. I guess Gladys just likes to watch people swat the dummy. (I would, too, if there was a hot tub from which I could watch people swat the dummy.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Desert Rose begins the always-required childhood activity: baking. She seems to have a knack for it, just like Skyler did, and doesn’t burn a single muffin (unlike Clover, who has moved on to burning every plate of pancakes she makes).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I bet you’re all wondering where Skyler is at with his love life. Honestly, I don’t really know myself. He has expressed consistent interest in Leah Lancaster, but she has a boyfriend now, and she’s been a little wishy-washy in the past when Skyler has tried to flirt with her. There might still be a little time to change things, though. Skyler invites Leah to meet him at the spa (and wow, what a spa it is) to talk things over.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

…It doesn’t go well. Leah shuts Skyler down when he so much as asks her how her day was, and she REALLY doesn’t like it when he goes in for a hug. *sigh* I was hoping they were close enough friends that Skyler could ask her to break up with Rickie Tanner, but with all these “Leah thinks Skyler is being awkward” notifications, their relationship is dropping rapidly. Darn.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler’s having a rough day, but Canyon is having a great one. That very afternoon, after popping the appropriate wish, he strolls down to the firehouse and applies for a job as a Water Boy. As potentially the last Kindle to have that fiery orange hair, Canyon is honoring his family legacy and taking after Blaise. It’s not what I was expecting…but hey, chase your dreams, kid.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

In fact, Canyon is so excited about his new job that he goes ahead and puts on his fireman outfit after taking a bubble bath, even though he hasn’t started work yet. (Ignore the snotty face. He just doesn’t want anyone to know how excited he is.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Desert Rose has her first day of school, and oh! Look who she brings home with her on the very first day!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The famous red-haired boy—whose first name is Harvey, and whose last name shall remain a mystery for the time being—plays tag with Rose all afternoon and becomes her first real friend outside the family. Ah, yes…things are going exactly according to plan. :D

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler keeps trying desperately to repair his relationship with Leah. Whenever he calls her, she’s either at work, or doesn’t want to talk to him, or thinks 1:30 in the morning is “too late to talk” (whatever, lady).

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clover, who is BFFs with Skyler, sees his distress and decides to give him a helping hand.

Skyler: “So where are we going again?”
Clover: “To my friend Michaela’s house. You need to hang out with someone other than Leah Lancaster. Don’t worry, Michaela’s cool!”
Skyler: *grumble*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler: “THAT’S Michaela?”
Clover: “Yep! Go on, introduce yourself!”
Skyler: “But…what is she wearing?”
Clover: “She doesn’t have a watcher to custom design her wardrobe, doofus. Now go say hi!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

While Clover contentedly does her homework in the other room, Skyler starts getting to know Michaela (in spite of her horrifying wardrobe choices). She’s a bit of an unconventional beauty, and she definitely shows interest in Skyler. And are you guys ready for a heck of a fun fact? Guess who Michaela is. That’s right, she’s red-haired Harvey’s older sister. NOW see if you can guess who the parents are! ;D

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler and Michaela get along so well that Skyler loses track of time and has to get picked up by the police. (In his defense, Clover loses track of time too—they both get rounded up.) A good sign? I guess?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose is doing well, blossoming into a well-adjusted and responsible little lady. She does all the dishes, just like I hoped she would. :)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And she bonds with her daddy, playing along when he insists on reading her toddler books even though she’s too old for them.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A couple days pass, and before long, it’s time for another birthday—but not a Kindle birthday. A Shaw birthday! On the day he’s due to age up, Bryan comes over to hang out with Canyon, and he gets a surprise cake while he’s here.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There isn’t enough room in the household for Bryan to move in, but I give him a makeover anyway. He’s a very handsome kid and looks spectacular in plummy purple. His traits, if you’re curious, are Artistic, Discplined, Loves the Outdoors, Mooch, and Excitable. His Lifetime Wish is to be a Home Design Hotshot. Dream on, baby.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

At last, Canyon and Bryan are free to start their lives together. I can’t have them get married myself, but I’m hoping Story Progression will let things take their course once they’re on their own.

…but there is ONE thing I can have them do.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Hey Bryan. Guess what? I'm a firefighter.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Bryan: *screams*

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Okay, that’s not what I meant. I MEANT that I can have them Woohoo. :) (Look at that sultry face! Who could say no to a Shaw? Nobody, that’s who.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The boys enjoy their first woohoo, and afterwards while Bryan struts gleefully around the room (awww), Canyon calls the real estate office. Time for Branyon to start fresh!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Goodbye, darling Canyon. It’s been so fun watching you grow up. Have the best time saving Lucky Palms from fires and PLEASE MARRY BRYAN, PLEASE.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ah, there you go. Good boy. :)

I never planned on an in-law loop, I swear! I really thought Skyler was going to end up with Leah Lancaster, but Leah had other plans, I guess. Ah well. There's still time for things to change, maybe...

The drama continues! Every chapter it seems like a wild guess who Skyler will end up with. His love life is a mess while Canyon's is going fantastically. I'm glad things are looking up with Michaela though.
Now, back to the wiki to try and figure out red-haired boy's parents....

I know, right?! It pretty much is a wild guess every time...Skyler wants to be with a different girl every day, it seems.

Only a couple more chances to guess who Harvey and Michaela's parents are! ;)

Chapter 47 – Spars & Nighties

After that first night getting to know Michaela, Skyler is slow to express more interest in her. It’s not until Leah Lancaster ages up to young adult and Lacie Diwan rejects him for a date (again) that he finally pops a wish to go on a date with Michaela. That is…it’s not until he’s pretty much out of options that he turns to her as a last resort. :P

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

He invites her over and they start getting, um, reacquainted right away. Way to be strategically shirtless, Skyler. (Clover looks exasperated about the hugging, but really she just whacked herself in the face with the fighting dummy.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As Skyler and Michaela flirt and chat in the background, Clover and her father have their first spar.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian has a higher level of Martial Arts skill (and maxed Athletic skill) as his advantage…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

…but Clover has the advantages of youth, grace, and the Disciplined trait to back her up.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The sparring goes on for hours, and eventually, Michaela gets tired and decides to tuck in for the night. No, she was not invited to stay over. Skyler comes back from grabbing some dinner in the fridge and finds Michaela climbing out of his bed wearing a nightie and fuzzy slippers.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I don’t know if it’s the nightie or what, but Skyler pops a wish to kiss Michaela for the first time. I suspect Michaela has been wanting the very same thing for a while.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Michaela, your bravery, beauty, and couch potato habits have made me see that you are the one I want to be with––not prissy Leah Lancaster or deceitful Lacie Diwan. Will you be my girlfriend?”

“Um, I didn’t know there were other girls in the running, but…okay, sure.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And so that’s that. Skyler and Michaela spend lots of time together from then on and are completely shameless about their romantic relationship. Luckily, Skyler’s mom doesn’t seem to have a problem with that. :o

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Later that week, I catch Nile and Caspian having a peaceful brotherly moment together in the middle of the night. Caspian, just back from a shift at the criminal warehouse, unwinds with a book while Nile works on his latest satire novel. These two almost never hang out together. It’s fitting that I find them like this the night before they’re due to become old men. :(

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

But let’s not think about old men just yet. Desert Rose loves to paint, it turns out––she gets to level 2 of the skill all by herself. It’s helpful that she’s surrounded by the work of great artists before her.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Francine, our other great (living) artist, is getting close to maxing both guitar and painting and achieving her lifetime wish. The public hangout spots of Lucky Palms remain deserted (heh) as ever, but she still plays for tips like she’s on her very own world tour.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

We have another musician in the family now. Nile, whose inventory is bloated with three generations’ worth of junk I’ve been too lazy to clear out, picks up Corrie’s old upright bass one day and starts plucking away like a maniac. (The bass-playing face never fails to make me crack up.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I don’t know how to caption this.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clover rises quickly through the Martial Arts levels, almost as quickly as the moon rises over the desert.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Even Disciplined sims are not immune to injury. This is giving me traumatic flashbacks to breaking my wrist in ninth grade, soooo moving on!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There are some birthdays on the horizon. Desert Rose will be a teenager soon, and Skyler is about to age up to a young adult. As such, the two of them wear their silly swim goggles and play tag as often as humanly possible.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Okay, it’s time to think about old men now. :(

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Francine: “Yay, I look so much younger than my husband now!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian heads straight upstairs to the mirror to replace his mustache, and then to the rooftop gym to (angrily) replace his muscles. Good luck with that, bro.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile is less depressed about aging up and more just plain confused.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The next morning is Skyler’s birthday. He wakes up in a mood swing and pops a wish to skip school. I decide to let him. He has an A average anyway. I think he deserves to skip his last day.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Off he goes in a whirl of rainbow glitter while his rapidly aging parents and uncle cheer him on.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Whoa, I get chest hair now??”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A fully grown man now, Skyler decides to give up the baseball hat at last. (I’ll miss it, but this hair really does look better on him.) Skyler’s final rolled wish is Absent-Minded (yay!), and he decides that he wants to become a Creature-Robot Cross Breeder and join the science career.

That’s it for now. More excitement to come in the next one!

Okay, I think I got it! Red-haired boy's mother is Pansy Northrop? Maybe?

It's about time Skyler finally made a choice! I'm happy for him. Michaela seems like a sweetheart.
I can't believe Caspian and Nile are old men already, it's nuts!  :o

Aaaand we have a winner! :D Yes, red-haired Harvey's mom is Pansy Northrop. His father is a lot harder to guess...unless you take a closer look at his sister Michaela, that is. :)

I'm happy for Skyler too! I like Michaela more and more as time goes on.

Chapter 48 – Old Ladyhood

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler, in his special mullet-like hairstyle that he only wears when naked, contemplates his purpose in life as he soaks in a bubble bath. What is he going to do with his life? Who is he going to be?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Oh, right, he’s going to be a scientist. This was decided in the last chapter. I just needed an excuse to use the mullet picture. (Is that even a mullet? Maybe not.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After applying for (and immediately getting) a job at the science center, Skyler takes a quick gardening class and then heads home to start his own garden. Somehow I think he’s going to have difficulty trying to grow lettuce and apples in hard-packed dry dirt, but I mean, I don't know anything about gardening.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There’s more career news in the family. Gladys finally achieves her Lifetime Wish on her last day as an adult, becoming a CEO at the business office after many years of hard work (and maternity leave). Congrats, Gladys!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

That evening, Desert Rose has roped her mom and big brother into listening to one of her ghost stories.

Rose: “…but all along, the mysterious woman was actually HUNDREDS OF YEARS OLD!”

Gladys: “Yay, old age! So inspiring!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

(This story was more relevant to Gladys’s life than she realized.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Moments later, on the floor below, Francine is interrupted mid-painting to celebrate her birthday as well.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

But it's fine, because she gets to be THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ELDER THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The next morning, the family parades down to City Hall to celebrate Skyler’s graduation. Look at all these fine Kindles! Skyler is the only one who doesn’t sprint all the way to the ceremony. He doesn’t want to trip over his gown, I guess.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Skyler wins Class Valedictorian and is voted Most Likely to Never Leave the House. Uncle Caspian drowns out Skyler’s cheer of victory with a deafening scream of hunger, whilst Gladys looks beyond the scene in peaceful obliviousness.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys is adapting to old ladyhood rather well.

Gladys: “How’s my little snootypumpkins today?”
Rose: “Mom, stop! You’re my MOTHER, not my grandma!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys still goes to work every day (after all, CEO is only level 8 of the business career), but in her spare time she returns to her old favorite pastime––fishing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gladys also becomes the victim of a very weird glitch that I’ve never seen before. After an afternoon of breath-holding contests in the pool with Clover, Gladys goes around the house with a rippling essence of pool still floating around her body.

“Help, watcher! I’m drowning in the middle of the kitchen!”

(She is not drowning, and the glitch goes away as soon as she changes out of her bathing suit.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Francine maxes the painting skill shortly after her elder birthday. She’s a huge step closer to achieving her Lifetime Wish. Now she gets to play for tips nonstop! Yay!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Most of the household elders are doing well in their old age. Caspian pops a wish to buy a cane. He becomes the most distinguished-looking Master Thief that ever faked a bum hip.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A few days later, Desert Rose’s teen birthday arrives. Half the town is invited to her birthday party and lines up at the door before the party even begins.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Of course, Rose isn’t even home from school yet. Her field trip to the science center runs late and she doesn’t get home until moments before the party starts.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The first person she sees when she walks in the door? Harvey, of course. He’s aged up to teenager just in time. :D

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Lots of old friends are here. Leah Lancaster strolls into the Kindle house, goes straight up to Skyler, and starts flirting with him. Leah! How could you! You know Skyler had a crush on you for years!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Fortunately, Skyler responds stoically to Leah’s flirts. He has his sights set on a different lover now––Michaela, who is still a teenager and still Lucky Palms's greatest fashion atrocity.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The time comes for Desert Rose to blow out her candles, much to the shock and delight of cousin Leonard, apparently. ???

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Somehow I failed to get any screenshots of the sparkles, but I DID get this nice shot of all the guests at the party being unable to acquire cake.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And where’s our birthday girl? Ah, she is wise and takes a piece of cake out to the backyard, where she can sit by the pool and eat in peace. Smart girl.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

While Rose enjoys her cake alone, Clover takes on the role of wingwoman and starts talking up her cousin to Harvey.

Harvey: “…well, yeah, Rose was a pretty good tag partner in elementary school, but is that really going to translate well into a more mature relationship?”
Clover: “Oh, it will, buddy. Trust me.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Desert Rose eventually finds her way to a mirror and dresser and gets a new look. She’s a dead ringer for her mom! Rose picks up one of the last traits I would ever have picked for her (or anyone): Unflirty. :( Looks like her romantic destiny with Harvey is going to take some hard work!

Chapter 49 – Boy Friend

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Desert Rose emerges from the upstairs bedroom with her new look, finds her friends downstairs, and makes THIS face when confronted with the prospect of romance for the first time.

“Ugh, you guys, I do NOT like being a teenager. All these hormones, all this pressure to be romantic all of a sudden…I would rather die than kiss a boy right now!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This doesn’t seem to faze Harvey. Whilst Clover swoons dreamily in the background (or rolls her eyes—it’s hard to tell), Harvey shakes Rose’s hand amiably. “Hey, Rose. Nice to see you at eye level again.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Harvey takes off for home shortly after. There was no immediate attraction between him and Rose, to my dismay, but maybe that’s okay. At least the two of them are friends, and that’s the most important thing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Apparently stressed out by this whole interaction, Desert Rose makes good use of her new maturity and spends the rest of the party downing drinks at the bar.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The party winds down soon enough––for everyone except Canyon. Nile finds his oldest son upstairs in his old bedroom, standing next to Canyon and Bryan’s prom photo.

“Hi, son.”
“Hi, dad.”
“…”
“…”
"I was just admiring this old photograph of Bryan and myself. Marriage is treating us very well."
"I'm happy to hear that, Canyon."
"..."
"..."

And then Canyon leaves. Um, good to see you, I guess.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Here is a demonstration of a fascinating phenomenon in this family. People are always queueing up to talk to Rose. Someone will start talking to her—usually Skyler—and then the other members of the family will gather around and try to jump in on the conversation until half the family is standing there waiting to ask Rose about her day. It’s kind of hilarious. She’s so popular, and yet so polite and oblivious!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

After all the guests have gone, only Caspian and Nile remain downstairs. Nile has taken on Caspian’s secret hobby of making a gazillion trays of drinks in the middle of the night, and Caspian is unsure how he feels about it.

Caspian: “Huh. What’s that you’re pouring now? A spline reticulator?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile: “For your information, Mr. Smarty Pants, it’s called a QUICK DRINK, and it’s the most ADVANCED mixological item on any menu anywhere!”
Caspian: “Uh-huh. Mixological, you say?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Caspian: “See, THAT’S  spline reticulator. Better, eh?”
Nile: “It’s terrible. I’ll take these other ones too so you don’t have to drink them.”

It’s a few more hours before the old boys head off to bed. At least they’re enjoying their elderhoods to the fullest extent.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The next day, first thing in the morning, I get a good scare when Clover goes to fix the broken TV. For a good several seconds, I'm convinced she’s going to snuff it. Luckily, she makes it through her very first electrocution with minimal scarring. (I, however, am DEEPLY scarred.)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose goes to her first day of high school and gets invited to a boy’s house—another townie named Jarrett Hudson. Jarrett is attractive, smart, and lives in a really nice house boat, but Rose doesn’t seem even remotely interested in him. The two of them don’t say a word to each other. They spend about five minutes doing homework near each other, and then Rose gets up and decides to call Harvey.

“Hey, Harvey! Whatcha doin’? Want to meet me at the graveyard? Great, see you soon!”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose and Harvey arrive together just as the setting sun is painting the desert red.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And Desert Rose gets right down to business.

“Okay, Harvey, here’s the deal. I’m not a flirty person. Not even a little bit. In fact, the idea of kissing you—or anyone—repulses me to my core, so the fact that I’m even bringing this up is kind of, um, crazy.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“HOWEVER, I do need to find a date to prom. And you’re the only boy I’ve ever liked in any capacity. Basically, I’m wondering if you want to be my friend who just so happens to be a boy. And my date to prom. And also possibly my husband, but that comes later and we don't have to worry about that right now. In fact, if I do worry about it right now I might throw up. So, what do you say?"

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Harvey is surprisingly cool with this arrangement.

“Of course, Desert Rose! But are you sure you have the dance moves to keep up with me at prom?”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

“Oh, Harvey, I’m so glad! And yes, I’m going to absolutely CRUSH you on the dance floor.”

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rose and Harvey end up staying at the graveyard until well after dark, gossiping and laughing and talking. Their relationship moves slowly—probably because I keep forgetting to stick Rose in a charisma class––but by the end of the night, they are almost good friends and have given me lots of adorable screenshots. Sure, they’re not the most compatible couple romantically, but they get along VERY well as friends. This might not be a raging, passionate romance––maybe it will just be a simple one, two friends growing to love each other deeply over time. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Or am I?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When curfew hits, my heart skips a beat—for a second, it looks like the two of them are holding hands!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Oh.

“Excuse me, my boy friend just tried to touch my hand and now I can’t move!”

Sorry, Rose. A few awkward, glitchy moments later, Harvey detaches himself from his future wife prom date.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Finally, the date ends. Harvey gives a friendly wave goodbye, accompanied by a notification stating that the date was, um, horrible?

Harvey: “Well, this was the worst date ever, so we’re not friends anymore, even though we spent the whole time planning to be friends and prom dates and potentially lifelong lovers. Game mechanics for the win! Okay bye!”

Great! Now we’re back to square one. Still, I firmly believe that Rose and Harvey are meant to be. They WILL BE TOGETHER. I hope.

Things are still going great at home, by the way.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Nile: “Hey, look, Dad’s working out at 2 in the morning again. Should we say something to him?”
Caspian: “Nope. Just ignore. Just. Ignore.”

Unflirty is a tough one! Always go for the friend interactions and stay safe! But on the flip side, when they are YA, 'ask to move in' is a friendly interaction not a romantic one. Works every time! ;)
Besides way better to be best friends and let the relationship develop naturally. Though, going to prom Harvey may just ask her to go steady! It's happened a lot for my teens. :)

Thanks deedee! All good advice that I will definitely keep in mind :) I actually didn't even think about the fact that Harvey might ask her to go steady at prom. I just wanted to nab him before some other townie girl did. I hope it happens! Then Rose won't have to do any work at all, which would make her very happy, I'm sure.
