Tiny Rivals (updated, Jan 25)

TINY RIVALS

Introduction

The rivals in this challenge are the same size as other Sims. What's tiny are their homes. Three intrepid Sims have agreed to take on both the challenge of living in a shoebox and also trying to beat out their neighbors and become the first to dominate Newcrest.

kl1.03.jpg
Our first victim rival is Milo Klaatu, from the planet Sixam. Milo is gloomy, childish, and a bro. He's working on the Nerd Brain aspiration and has a job as a scientist.

kl1.01.jpg
kl1.02.jpg
Milo lives at Twin Oracle Point in a tier 2 Tiny Home that is cursed. He has the perks You Got the Touch (increases speed of skilling), Cozy Comforts (increases comfort), Lighten the Load (decreases bills) and Feelin' Fine All the Time (increases likelihood of good moods).

dh1.02.jpg
Next is our spellcaster, Damian Headrick. He is creative, a loner, and a bookworm.

dh1.03.jpg
Damian had to go to the Magic Realm to become a spellcaster, but he has already finished the first leg of his Purveyor of Potions aspiration. He doesn't have a job yet.

he1.01.jpg
Damian lives at Midtown Meadows, in a tier 1 Micro Home that is haunted. Besides You Got the Touch, Cozy Comforts, Lighten the Load, and Feelin' Fine all the Time, he gets the perks, Let it Grow (increases plant growth speed), and Let's All get Along (increases relationships).

ed1.02.jpg
Emily Dillard wants to go to university and plans to major in either communications or language and literature -- whichever major she can get a distinguished degree in. She is creative, materialistic, and squeamish. Her current aspiration is the academic one, but she will probably switch to Best-Selling Author when that is finished. She's working as a freelance writer.

ed1.01.jpg
Emily lives at Optimist's Outlook. Her home is a tier 1 Micro Home with gremlins and has all the perks of the one at Midtown Meadows.

Fingers crossed for all of them.

Totally fooled me with the title!  I was wondering if you'd installed a height mod or something!
Looking forward to seeing how each family does.  Hadn't even realized the two new bloodline options were available in the Rivalry Dynasty!

I didn't realize there were more options for the Rival Dynasty either!  I'm totally copying you, Marian...hope you don't mind.  This will be the perfect way to get playtime in on the new packs that I haven't been able to immerse myself in.

Fantastic idea! I like how you took negative lot traits to balance out the Tiny Living rewards.
You are so brave!  And the houses look great. Can't wait to see how they/you play!

They've been up for a few weeks now, but as Makenziegma discovered, there are some problems with Discover University when you play rotationally. So I'm trying to figure out how to do that.

@simfulicious, picking the same bloodlines is fine!

@oshizu, thanks and I'm curious how they'll play. I don't think I can keep the two at micro for long. They'll have to get a little larger when children arrive.

@ratchie, glad you're here, too.

Emily Dillard 1

ed2.03.jpg
As an aspiring writer, Emily is keeping a diary. "Journal," she corrected.

Week One.
It's exciting to participate in a dynasty and especially exciting to be in one with rivals. At the same time, I feel somewhat frustrated. I have to get a degree, but it has to be a distinguished degree, which I'm not likely to get if I don't have any skills. In order to get some skills (and make money), I've signed up for a freelance career in writing. My first task was to write a children's book for the popular Voidcritter series. I was given a character (Vulpes), a setting (Mauven Wood) and a plot (Vulpes struggles but ultimately wins).

ed2.01.jpg
I'd intended to go to bed early after finishing this drivel, but I found out that the Humor and Hijinks Festival was taking place in San Myshuno. After the plucky earnestness of Vulpes, I definitely needed some humor. Giddy with the tea they served, I greeted Diego Lobo, art critic for the San Myshuno Times, with great enthusiasm and demonstrated my impossibly long sausage mime. Face palm. What was I thinking? Mime? That was so twentieth century.

ed2.02.jpg
But Diego took it in good part and flashed crazy eyes at me later. Maybe he was giddy from the tea as well.

ed2.04.jpg
The next morning I fixed myself a breakfast burrito in my brand-new microwave. Despite being top-of-the-line (Schmapple, and they don't come more expensive than that), it produced a mediocre burrito that was hot on the outside and numbingly cold on the inside. I did another job, writing a self-help book. That took all day, so I went to bed early.

ed2.10.jpg
Early the next morning, I awoke to discover that the gremlins had visited. My toilet, sink, and shower were erupting water; my mini-fridge and microwave were emitting sparks; my computer had a hacking cough (more of a buzz, really, but I couldn't resist the pun). I fixed the toilet and sink and replaced my cheap shower, picking out one with a wall of subway tiles. I tried to fix the mini-fridge but got a bad shock and went to lie down.

ed2.06.jpg
Diego called while I was taking a nap. He had a tip that Thorne Bailey and Octavia Moon would be signing autographs at Orchid A-Go-Go. Did I want to come? Did I want to get away from my death-dealing appliances? And see Diego again? He arrived with someone from his paper, an annoying fellow who was checking his phone messages rather than moving away from us.

ed2.07.jpg
When he finally left, Diego stared at me intently. "I'd like to see this really, really micro home you've been bragging about."

ed2.08.jpg
So I gave him the tour, ending with the brand-new shower with its highly fashionable subway tiled wall.

ed2.11.jpg
The pregnancy test turned out positive. I was happy about that until I looked at the rules for the challenge and found that the baby's father would have to live with me.

ed2.18.jpg
Would Diego want to leave his posh apartment where the living room was larger than my humble abode? Forget the living room. His bathroom was larger than my house.

ed2.19.jpg
Would he want to leave that incredible view of downtown San Myshuno?

ed2.20.jpg
In return he'd get the very ordinary view of Newcrest, thrilling if you liked grass and trees, I guess.

ed2.12.jpg
I fixed myself some salad. With a baby on the way, I would have to eat more real food, less microwaved stuff. I did some proof-reading, and then Diego called, inviting me to join him at the park in San Myshuno.

ed2.14.jpg
As soon as I saw him, I gave him the news. He was a bit stunned at first, but then he said he was happy about it. "But will you be able to manage, going to school and all?" he asked. I told him that I'd given it some thought. I told him that I was in a race with two other people, but that one element of the race was how quickly your children could be ready to take over. I was at a disadvantage there because my child -- our child -- would have a few more requirements to complete. So it was a good thing that I was pregnant already. I hesitated, not wanting to ask him to move in.

ed2.15.jpg
"Have you ever been in the observatory here?" Diego asked. I hadn't, so we went inside to check it out.

ed2.16.jpg
We set off the fireworks by the wedding arch. I kid you not. The fireworks went off on cue, so to speak. "Tomorrow's Love Day," whispered Diego. "I'll see you then."

ed2.13.jpg
I met him at The Shrieking Llama for Love Day and gave him a snapdragon that I'd picked from a bush behind my house. He gave me a rose.

ed2.21.jpg
I finally got up the courage to ask him to move in with me.

ed2.22.jpg
I'd put in a real kitchen with a stove and regular refrigerator.

ed2.23.jpg
And we would have a bedroom to ourselves upstairs. It wouldn't be a really, really micro house anymore, just tiny, but that was okay.

ed2.17.jpg
Diego felt the baby kick and said it would be more than okay.

ed2.09.jpg
Diego proposed.

ed2.24.jpg
We got married.

ed2.25.jpg
And it wasn't long before Baby Isaac joined us. He has his toddler bed, potty chair, and high chair already, but I haven't figured out where to put his toys.

ed2.05.jpg
Emily finished her journal entry. She would have to wait until her next time under the Watcher's eye to start taking classes, but with all her writing experience, she was pretty sure she could get into either the Communications program or Language and Literature. Besides the children's book, motivational book, and non-fiction book she'd produced as a freelancer, she'd also written a few short stories and a romance novel, Love Me Once, "loosely" based on her romance with Diego. She hadn't published them yet. Hopefully that would be enough to get her a scholarship or two.

No, but I did enjoy writing her chapter. I hadn't made up my mind about finding a spouse, so I didn't try to force a relationship, which is what I usually do. She went out with Diego when he called, although I did send her over to his apartment to pick up a couple of screenshots. But mostly Diego was the one calling for dates.

I'm glad I got here after your response to oshizu.  I love it all the more when the Sims naturally gravitate to each other.  I mean, I've done my fair share of forcing the relationship because I wanted those genes in the family line, but the ones that just occur because the Sims prompt it are always my favorite.  I have no favorites yet in this rivalry, but Emily is definitely off to a good, strong start in that regard  ;=)

Great start, Marian!  Emily is going to have the most expensive tiny house ever, now that she's landed herself a rich baby daddy!  I'm waiting to try the academic bloodline until after you go back to her in the rotation after she starts college.  I want to make sure you have it nice and playtested...not to mention, that line is harder to do with the extra requirements.  I think I'm gonna do my bloodlines all the same so it's an even matched race.

Damian Headrick 1

dh2.02.jpg
All his youth, Damian had dreamed of becoming a spellcaster. He would becoming a terrifying sage of untamed magic, controlling life and death itself with his wand. Or maybe he would be an impish magician, playing hilarious pranks.

dh2.01.jpg
But when the time came to make a decision, Damian realized that as the founder of a dynasty, there was only one choice open to him. "I'd like to learn practical magic," he told Simeon Silversweater.

dh2.10.jpg
Simeon gave him a couple of lessons. "The knees! Sink down into your knees and turn your wrist so for a backhand," he urged.

dh2.03.jpg
He sent Damian over to Casters Alley to buy a few supplies -- a couple of apples, a familiar, a wand, and a broom.

dh2.11.jpg
Damian was a full-fledged spellcaster now and able to fight duels. This was all going to be so exciting.

dh2.12.jpg
What he hadn't anticipated was that he might lose and end up on the ground.

dh2.13.jpg
Or that he might have trouble with his broom.

dh2.05.jpg
Or that brewing the Potion of Plentiful Needs might prove...explosive.

dh2.04.jpg
Damian had to settle for making a large batch of macaroni and cheese instead.

dh2.16.jpg
There were problems at home, too, like Felix, the angry ghost.

dh2.14.jpg
And the bed. Damian had figured he wouldn't need a bed because the Plentiful Needs potion would take care of everything. And so it would, if it were a normal batch. But all Damian could make was the poor variety, which had the opposite effect.

dh2.15.jpg
So he landed on the floor again.

dh2.09.jpg
At least he had one bottle of the Potion of Alluring Aura, which might be just the thing for developing a relationship with Lilith Pleasant.

dh2.17.jpg
But when she came over, he realized that her sister Angela would make a much better wife for an aspiring dynasty founder and a much better mother of a dynasty heir. And, make-up aside, she looked just like Lilith.

dh2.18.jpg
He proposed, and Angela accepted, and Damian hadn't even needed the Alluring Aura potion.

dh2.19.jpg
They got married immediately, and went outside to try for baby in the bush. Unfortunately, the bush had recently been "fertilized" and was too stinky.

dh2.20.jpg
That left the bed. The murderous Murphy bed. Damian took the last fall of his life.

dh2.21.jpg
"You can't take my husband!" Angela pleaded. "We just got married! I'll do anything. I'll even seduce you..."

dh2.22.jpg
The Grim Reaper was already restoring Damian to life. "I heard that about the seduction," he told Angela. "Next time I might take you up on that."

dh2.24.jpg
Damian and Angela sold the Murphy bed and built a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Now that she was pregnant, Angela didn't want to have to run to the bush outside every time she needed to go.

dh2.23.jpg
Damian got a job as a gardener, but continued working on his potions. Unfortunately, he incurred the Curse of Unwarranted Hostility, which meant that total strangers would attack him. "Ah-choo! What is that smell?" one woman demanded. "Pesticide," said Damian. "Ew, did I get it on me? Ew, that's poison you know."

dh2.06.jpg
In the Magic Realm, Damian found that his former dueling opponent was now his enemy. "Look, man, you're the guy who beat me. But thanks for giving me the opportunity to return the favor. No hard feelings, okay?"

dh2.07.jpg
But nothing in Damian's life could prepare him for the terrifying prospect that now awaited him.

dh2.08.jpg
They named him Kennet.

dh2.25.jpg
"We can always watch TV outside," said Angela, when they finished setting up his area.

I almost joined Team Damian when I thought he was going to choose Lilith, but then he went with Angela.  Of course, Angela proved the life saver that kept your second dynasty household in the running, so I guess he chose well after all  ;=)  (Though I still favor Lilith, but don't tell Angela that)

I googled the Pleasant sisters since I'll only be installing Discover University later tonight.
Comparing their traits, I can see why Damian would pick Angela but also understand why Pippin & reggikko prefer Lilith.
Regardless, I'm glad Damian managed--with Angela's pleas--to survive the Murphy Bed.

@PeregrineTook. @reggikko, @oshizu, originally I was going to have him go for Lilith, and Damian asked her to move in with him. But when the screen came up, I realized that I could move in Angela instead. If I hadn't been playing in a tiny house, I might have moved in both. Anyway, Lilith prefers her freedom, I think. She still keeps in touch.

Angela’s traits are easier to work with, for sure. I didn’t really play Pleasantview back in TS2, but I always felt kind of bad for Lilith with all of her “grew up badly” memories. What were Daniel and Mary Sue doing that their daughter had such a terrible childhood? Well, we know what Daniel was doing!  :D

As well as who. I played them at the beginning once. Poor Mary Sue with the therapist visiting.
