I always use some kind of theme for my names, either from books, movies, or television.  For example, my current family was used to write the World Class Gallery Lifetime Wish walkthrough for the guide.  The husband was Jimmy Olsen, who is the photographer in Superman.  His wife was Susan Olsen, who is the actress who played Cindy Brady on the Brady Bunch.  They ended up having six kids named Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy.  Jan is now a mother of twins named Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Most of my Sims are named after my dogs:  Molly O'Schipperke, Sir James of Schipperke, Millie McSchipperke - well, you get the idea.

I tend to give them whatever name comes first in my mind. Celebrities, people I know, computer programs, game servers, random words (according to what the Sim will do in his life usually... like Check Mate for a chess master) and sometimes completely random and silly names like Mister 69 or GEORGE SATANISTU (given to a completely red Sim with a big nose that has traits that would make him mean and unfriendly).

And I think that Cycl0n3 Sw0rd, Goopy and Ng (sadly removed from TS3) are awesome names.

Naming Sims is one of my most favorite past-times.  One source I use is the Social Security Admin Website: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/babynames/  Pretty much any baby naming site is good.  Another good one is Behind the Name: http://www.behindthename.com/

If you want more unusual names just pick those that are the least common on the list.

I actually bought a baby name book (it was on sale for $4.99) lol...  am I addicted or what? I pick names that I like, or names I think go together (for my legacies).
