I usually do, but I want more unique names, but not ones that are strange.

I always use some kind of theme for my names, either from books, movies, or television.  For example, my current family was used to write the World Class Gallery Lifetime Wish walkthrough for the guide.  The husband was Jimmy Olsen, who is the photographer in Superman.  His wife was Susan Olsen, who is the actress who played Cindy Brady on the Brady Bunch.  They ended up having six kids named Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy.  Jan is now a mother of twins named Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.  :D

Most of my Sims are named after my dogs:  Molly O'Schipperke, Sir James of Schipperke, Millie McSchipperke - well, you get the idea.

I tend to give them whatever name comes first in my mind. Celebrities, people I know, computer programs, game servers, random words (according to what the Sim will do in his life usually... like Check Mate for a chess master) and sometimes completely random and silly names like Mister 69 or GEORGE SATANISTU (given to a completely red Sim with a big nose that has traits that would make him mean and unfriendly).

And I think that Cycl0n3 Sw0rd, Goopy and Ng (sadly removed from TS3) are awesome names.

Naming Sims is one of my most favorite past-times.  One source I use is the Social Security Admin Website: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/babynames/  Pretty much any baby naming site is good.  Another good one is Behind the Name: http://www.behindthename.com/

If you want more unusual names just pick those that are the least common on the list.

I actually bought a baby name book (it was on sale for $4.99) lol...  am I addicted or what? I pick names that I like, or names I think go together (for my legacies).
Here are some of my favorites:
boys:Barrett, Owen, Wyatt, Hunter, Daniel (or Dan), Drake, Alex, Kent, Kyle, Mason, Holden, Billy, Liam, Patrick, Declan, Enzo, Carlo, Marco, Jake
girls:Carlisle, Carson (could also be a boys' name), Elizabeth, Penny, Hailey, Dee Dee, Lauren, Meghan, Regan, Charlotte, Jane

You can sometimes find baby name books really cheap......it has been a good reference not just for my game, but for name origins of unusual names I have wanted to learn more about (see? I don't just use it for my sims)

Not as cheaply as simply doing a Google search for "Baby Names." You'll get page after page of sites devoted to just that.

Well, yeah, but that would be far too simple. I am extremely good at complicatiing my life needlessly. If they paid me for it, I would be a millionaire.

Some of those names looks really weird to me, but maybe I'm too used to Swedish names.

If you have trouble finding names, choose a foreign one! Swedish names for instance are wayy old and with a lot of meaning that haven't been used for their original meanings for centuries; "Ivar" for instance comes from the mix of "yew" (as in a yew bow) and "warrior". Ivar came thus, according to some historians, to mean a form of 'guardian' or 'gate keeper', as yew bows were primarly a defensive weapon. Now say, isn't something like that an inventive name?

This is quite helpful to see so many names.
[I tend to get stuck in a rut when naming Sims, I use the same names time and time again... boring really]
Anyways most of the time the names I use aren't used by most so here's a go...
Aiden (sometimes Aden)
Daniel
Kai (this is a girls name, can be a guys but I prefer the feminine form, pronounced K-eye)
Amaelia (I tend to combind regular names with Latin ones, so the 'ae' makes an 'eye' sound :) )
Rei, Re or Ray
Eira
Lise (I normally use the French version but it can really take any, the French way is pronounced "Leese")
Luke
and Lila
I have a few more, but the rut normally stays within this naming. :) hopefully someone can find good use of my names. Sorry if the pronunciation gets annoying, I like having weird sounding names but when I write them down people assume they are spoken differently and I just wanted to clarify.

I was just making some sims in CAS and made 3 toddlers. I didn't have my "list" of names stored in the working half of my brain at that moment, so I just made them up and have just realised they all rhyme :(  Ayma, Maeda and Shayra. I didn't even realise when I was making them! I'm going to keep a list of names on a piece of paper near the computer. :) Now I'll never have annoying names :) :) Yay!

My most recent batch of Sim kids had the lame alphabet theme.  A boy named Adrian and three girls named Bethany, Carina, and Danielle.

Thats a good idea Pam! :) I'll have to do that! I'm officially obsessed with having sim kids! I made a family with one woman Holly, a man, Min Lah and the three toddlers i spoke of in an earlier post, Ayma, Maeda and Shayra then Holly got pregnant and had Taylor then she got pregnant again, then i moved out Min Lah and now im ruined. (Don't ask why i moved him out, I was bored).
Im going to start the Asylum challenge next, my idea of names for that was just backwards words such as, Ynool Odreiw (Weirdo Loony) or words spelt weird Klummssie (Clumsy) Another idea is to look around and mould words together like lamp and door, Domp, Lomor, Darp, Malor. Sure they're wierd but its a simple way to choose names without your head hurting too much.

P.S. - How am i doing with my spelling and puncuation Pam? I'm trying a lot harder now. :)

Your spelling and punction looks better!  Thanks!  The only things I see in this last post are some capitalizations and apostrophes missing.

Nothing evil meant, but there's quite an irony in that post since it's "punctuation" and not "punction" you mean. ::)
