Kicking Careers into High Gear

Goal
Career challenges were always a perennial favorite of Sims 3 players, so it's no surprise we are quickly introducing one for Sims 4. Cap as many careers as you can for your two Sims by the time they turn Elder.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create two Young Adult Sims.
  • No one can move out.
  • If one of your Sims dies, then continue with the remaining Sim.
  • No adding to the household.
  • All maxed jobs must be unique. Each branch of a given career is considered a unique career. So, Sim A could max the Chef branch of the Culinary Career and Sim B could max the Mixology branch, but not the Chef branch since Sim A already had.
  • All rewards counted to add to your multiplier must be unique. So, if Sim A caps one branch of a career and unlocks a low level reward, and Sim B caps the other branch of the same career and also unlocks the same reward you only count that reward once for your multiplier.
  • No life extension methods are allowed.
  • This challenge ends when both Sims have their Elder birthday.

Scoring

Scoring is based on how many unique careers have been maxed as well as collecting as many different job related rewards.

Career Cap — Award yourself 1200 points for any maxed career unique to a Sim.

6 - 9 — If you did not cap a given career but at least made it to level 6, then award yourself 200 points for each higher level (i.e. making it to level 8 would net you 600 points).

Rewards — Your multiplier is the total number of unique physical/placeable objects you get as perks for hitting certain levels in various careers. Simply unlocking the objects is not enough to count them towards your multiplier. They need to be placed. Everyone starts the game with a reward multiplier of 1.00.

Do not get rid of any rewards during the course of the challenge, so you can get an accurate count at the end of the event.

Each reward adds 5% (.05) to your multiplier.

DO NOT ask in this thread if a certain item qualifies as a reward. PM the team with your question.

Total — Add up the number of job caps from your two Sims. Then take that amount and multiply it by your rewards. I’ll walk you through an example.

Example: Both of your Sims have turned Elder, so it's time to stop playing your file. At this point they have hit 11 different career caps. One Sim also made it to level 7 in one career, and the other Sim made it to level 8. They have also acquired 15 different rewards.
11 job caps = 13200 points
6 - 9 = 400 points (for the level 7 career) + 600 points (for the level 8 career)
15 rewards X .05 = .75. Final multiplier = 1.00 + .75 = 1.75
Your Total = (13200 + 1000) X 1.75 = 24850

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, LenaLJ, and Blackrosea) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

The link to the general challenge rules doesn't seem to be working - it tells me that it is off-limits. I can see it fine on the challenge board though.

EDIT: Ditto for the other challenge too.

Thank you, Annika. I will check it out.

EDIT: Ok, fixed I think. Let me know if all links work for you now.

I just added the following clarification:

  • All rewards counted to add to your multiplier must be unique. So, if Sim A caps one branch of a career and unlocks a low level reward, and Sim B caps the other branch of the same career and also unlocks the same reward you only count that reward once for your multiplier.

One more clarification on rewards - I want to make sure everyone understands that simply unlocking an award is not enough to count towards your multiplier. You have to actually place the item (which typically means buying it):

Rewards — Your multiplier is the total number of unique physical/placeable objects you get as perks for hitting certain levels in various careers. Simply unlocking the objects is not enough to count them towards your multiplier. They need to be placed. Everyone starts the game with a reward multiplier of 1.00.

So if you get 3 of the same object for a sim, as part of a single reward, only one of them counts?

Links all working now :)

If it's the exactly same object - i.e. Too Cool Lampshade 101 (I am making up that name lol) - then, yes, you would count one of those for your score.

Given the difficulty of getting promotions since the new patch, I wonder if it would be possible to get partial credit for an almost-maxed career -- something like 100 pts for every level above 5, if you haven't maxed the career.

I like that suggestion a lot.

EDIT - Okay, check out the new 6 - 9 scoring component in the rules. Thanks again, Marian. Great suggestion.

Given the difficulty and the amount of time it would appear that players will need to invest to actually cap careers, I slightly adjusted the reward of a capped career from 1000 to 1200 points.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. I will be gone for a few days visiting my mom, but will talk to you guys soon. Hopefully other team members will pop in to answer questions.

Can Sim A cap both branches of one career and have that count as 2 individual capped careers?

BTW - very excited to be back for a new round of the awesome tournament series again. Thanks for the team's time and efforts to put it together!

Not a member of the challenge team here, but I'll try and answer this anyway. Well, I'm pretty sure that a single Sim can't switch between branches of the same career (I may be wrong on this though, I haven't checked, just remembered reading it somewhere). Once you choose a branch, there's no going back. You'd have to have a seperate Sim complete the other branch (which sucks).

However, if switching branches was possible I don't think there'd be a problem because it doesn't say anything in the rules about it.

Unless they change it in a future patch, you can't have a single sim do both branches of a career.

You can if you save them to the library and start a new game - they retain access to their previous career rewards. But that wouldn't work within the rules, so for this challenge you basically can't.

Does this part of the rule set:

6 - 9 — If you did not cap a given career but at least made it to level 6, then award yourself 200 points for each higher level (i.e. making it to level 8 would net you 600 points).

...contradict this one:

6 - 9 = 200 points (for the level 7 career) + 300 points (for the level 8 career)

The first quote states that getting a career to level 8 receives 600 points, while the second quote denotes that only 300 points are received with the same career level. Just checking... Hoping the upcoming tournament is a great one!
