Sims 4 fps limiter?
« on: September 03, 2014, 07:22:56 PM »
I read on another site that Sims 4 has a built in fps limiter, which will limit the fps to 200.  This still seems awful high to me, and in fact my laptop is running between 130-160 fps.  I have tried putting the files from the sims 3 fps limiter thread into the Sims 4 files, however, it will not work for me...the game just doesn't open.
I know we have wonderful techie people here, and I would like to ask for help in finding a program that will work, or tell me if I'm paranoid (but I have burnt numerous video cards, so I doubt I'm paranoid)

Let me get the game fired up and I'll take a look at the options.

But honestly, you don't need an FPS limiter. My graphics card in my desktop finally died after 5 years, a lot of those spent playing Sims 3 and other games at 100+ FPS. What you need, is a good cooling solution.

Here we go.

Graphics -> Refresh rate (60Hz) -> Vertical Sync (Check it so it's on).

That should limit your FPS to 60.

Thank you, thank you.  That put me to 60 at the most.  I haven't burnt out anything in the laptop yet, but my desktop is on it's 3rd video card (fps would go over 200, and I burnt out every year), and my hubby won't get me another one just so I can play the "Dummies," as he calls them.

I highly recommend looking at optimizing your airflow in your case then. :)

Excessive heat (which is what running ANY game at it's max speed will cause) burns out components pretty fast. I also recommend a decent fan stand for your laptop. I have one on mine to make sure it doesn't burn out.
