Plants By Season - List
« on: July 01, 2018, 04:17:41 PM »
OK they nerfed plants evolving in greenhouses so plants evolve up to 4 times slower when protected in say a greenhouse. Plant quality is a big factor in profitability of plants. But due to most plants only produce in certain season(s) outdoors greenhouses are needed to keep a steady income (or harvestables for things like flower arranging, science career potions, eating/drinking, bar tending and cooking).  This forms a gardening catch 22 where no matter what your income takes a hit.

I think the trick is to have both an indoor greenhouse garden and an outdoor garden. You keep the year round producers and in season plants in the outside garden and all others indoors. Rotating the seasonal plants indoors when there seasons end and placing new in season plants outdoors so in season the evolve at maximum rate. This is a pain I know but it provides the best solution to the indoor/outdoor issue. Plants evolve faster outdoors so in their prime growing season they get that bonus, yet produce year round for a constant income. And I thought they said they made gardening for a living easier. That was a joke.

Outside of cheats or just being lucky I haven't figured out a work around for the grafting nerf. Well other than raiding another sims established garden. And yes these two issues of slow evolving indoors and poor grafting production are not a bug but an intentional nerf.

Info on what produces when so you can easily know when to move which plants.

What useful information, @scoed
Thanks so much! I guess I will be resplicing my plants whenever I start a new challenge on Normal Lifespan so that same-season plants will be grafted together.
In my current Short-Lifespan challenge, moving plants every season is highly impractical because my seasons are only a week long.

Haha, gardening is now easier my plumbob! ;-)

I am playing in long life mode to relearn how to play so that may have a factor, also location may have a factor.  The following can be found in Spring:
Basil, Bluebells, Parsley, Chamomile, Toxic Chamomile, Elderberry, Noxious Elderberry, Huckleberry, Muckleberry, Fire Leaf, Poison Fireleaf, Black Beans, Morel and False Morel.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Excellent information. This will be extremely helpful.  I just started a "Dirty Hippie Commune", and there is a lot of gardening going on.

Thanks for posting this.

First time I glanced at it but didn't really read it. After playing a couple of games and coming back to this, it makes perfect sense. The pain is remembering to move them in before the season changes.

In my current game, I built a small greenhouse at first. I always extend the roof as far as it can go. Once it was filled up inside, I stuck the next garden box just outside the greenhouse. Next day, the plants started to grow. Even though they weren't inside, they still registered as "sheltered". I guess as long as the roof is overhead, it counts. May not work in the winter, but I'll see. Not sure if this is a bug or not.

@Highlander  plants don't need to be inside to be sheltered, they just need a roof over them. So it's not a bug.  :)

I know this is an old thread, but I am finding it extremely useful. Since I am using it (and its previous source, Carl's gardening guide), I figured it would be better to have all this information in one place instead of in yet another thread.

I have re-organized the plants alphabetically by season, and added plants from later packs. (Currently going through the cottage living plants.) The herbalism plants from "Outdoor Retreat" are listed in their good/bad pairs, alphabetically by the 'good' plant. I've also added my own notes, because there are so many plants now that it becomes cumbersome to grow every single one, and I like to know which ones I actually need.

Sims 4 Plants by Season

(T) -> Tree, needs its own pot/planter
(V) -> Vertical, can be put in a vertical planter. PLANTS CANNOT BE GRAFTED TO IN VERTICAL PLANTERS, but you can take cuttings from them.
(G) -> Ground, will not grow in a vertical planter but can share a planter box
(OP) -> Plot, Oversize crop, must be grown in an in-ground soil patch.
* -> this is one of the 32 plants used to complete the Gardening Collection

I added the Cottage Living plants, but I haven't tested yet whether the morel mushroom and false morel mushroom can be used in Canning or not.
