Seed Collecting
« on: August 29, 2012, 09:28:07 AM »
I'm trying to cut down on the number of seed spawners in my new world I'm building, and I'm wondering what seeds people collect? My guess is that most people don't bother with the common ones unless they are high quality (or a bad apple for that OP), and mostly stick to collecting from special seed spawners.

Do you:

Only collect special seeds
Only collect seeds from special spawners to ensure that more seeds spawn, even if they are rare or uncommon
Collect everything!
Something else?

I usually collect everything, then sell off the common seeds, particularly if I already have them in my garden.  Though once I have all the crops, I do tend to stick to just special seeds.

My strategy changes over time. For a little while, I'll collect everything Unknown, on the off chance that the seeds are high quality (and I'll also pick up high-quality seeds for the Common produce on the first day or two with a new gardener if I happen to see one, but not Normal, Nice, or Very Nice ones). After a week or so I cut back to just picking up Special seeds, and I stop collecting altogether once I've got the whole set of Special plants unless I'm desperate for Money Trees.

I only collect rare and special seeds. For the other ones I just buy the veggies at the store and have a sim fertilize them with really good fertilizer so that they improve quality. I think it actually saves time, since your sims will not have to go around looking for the seeds. It's true that improving the quality of the veggies takes time, but at the same time they are improving their gardening skill. Plus, except in Sunset Valley and Riverview, I never know where the seeds are and I'm too lazy to figure it out  ;D.

I don't really like to garden,in real life or the Sims,so I tend to just search for special seeds to grow life fruit.

The only seeds that I go out of my way to collect are the special seeds.  I collect common seeds if my Sim has a wish to collect seeds, and usually only if I can see that the seed is better than Nice quality.  As for unusual or rare seeds, since I can't tell what they are or what quality, I don't usually bother with them.  And like Ratchie, I don't really like gardening, either in real life or in the game.

I love to garden, in rl and Sims, so I normally send my broke as can be new Sim off to harvest fruit and veggies so she won't starve and use some of them for fishing, (aka fertilizer), and will pick up any seeds I find along the way.  Unless she has an op that says find seeds, I don't particularly look for them at the start but will pick up any I come across while harvesting.  By day 3 her garden is doing well and is fertilized so for the regular fruits and veggies I just ignore finding seeds but will pick up any that are better quality than what I have.  Once her garden is growing well I focus on special, rare and uncommon seeds.  Do you all know seeds can also be used the same way as veggies as fish bait?
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I just realised I need to update my world spawner lists. I've created a list of all the different spawner types that appear in EA worlds, by opening each world in CAW. This helped me to place a balanced number of seed spawners in my previous world.  Recently, however, I found the exact difference in each seed spawner: It's the chance for a particular type of seed, and the quality range.

Personally I like to collect seeds from all the special seed spawners (I find them with CAW) to ensure that they spawn as many possible special seeds. I have to add a few worlds to my list, but from what I have, Sunset Valley has an abundunce of crap seeds. Twinbrook on the other hand, has all medium to higher quality spawners.
