Best Moneymaking Profession

I know this was discussed a while back, but I figured I'd get yelled at for opening a dead thread.

Was fiddling around earlier today and downloaded Lucky Palms (Gold). Added the Casino in Edit Town, and created a Sim who's a professional gambler. I leveled her gambling skill to 10 on the slots (low rate). "Lucky" is among her traits, which is the only one that seems to make any difference.

After she reached Gambling level-10, I only played the Blackjack Tables. Keeping her at the same table or moving her around does not seem to make much difference.

As soon as she wakes, eats, bathes, and relieves herself, I send her to the Casino, where I have her do two blackjack sessions (in Aggressive mode); she invariably wins at least 25K simoleons each session. As soon as the second session is complete, I send her home for sleep, whereupon I rince and repeat the above. She can get in a total of four blackjack sessions daily, and makes over 100K simoleons daily. To be sure the system was working, I ran her through four complete sim weeks. She's never lost on the blackjack tables. I've never had her count cards, as a sure 100K daily was good enough. It cost her 38K to reach level-10 Gambling on the slot machines, but her earnings from the slots was 52K, which was easily sufficienct to offset her living expenses during her "training" period.

Gambling clearly seems the best way to build up seed money for a new Sim, and it's kind of brainless activity for when you are trying to real-life multitask.

Coincidentally, I rather like Lucky Palms. Since I often use Edit Town heavily, Lucky Palms offers a wealth of space for additional venues and homes. I think it will also make an interesting world for the Seasons EP. But I like alll the worlds and will doubtless move my gambling sim around as time progresses.

My only regret with the Casino is my Sim cannot purchase it as a real estate investment. This felt rather inconsistent to me. Tomorrow, I will investigate the feasibility of building my own Casino (too tired tonight to look into that further). This seems the natural progression for a professional gambler.

I can only dream, but wouldn't it be entirely cool if there was an additional "Adventures" type world, called Simmicarlo (or some foolishness like that), where we could send our sims on vacation to gamble on the Sim Riviera.  Oh well.

Well, darn it ... now I can't find it. Had something to do with best moneymaking professions, where gambling was touched on only briefly. I thought it needed to be fleshed out more, so maybe this thread should stand on its own. Sorry.

Edit: I said on there that gambling was a great way to make money, it's really easy, the first time my Sim used the slot machine she won 5,000 Simoleons, she has won 11,000 Simoleons from the blackjack table one time, the other best thing is Sims seem to be drawn to the slot machine and blackjack table, which means you can get money very easy from them.

Fact is, when I'm planning a multigenerational (dynasty) game, I want it to go something like this:


-->Rapid wealth accumulation-->Develop longterm growth in wealth-->Accumuate wealth slowly

For me, because they involve things I enjoy doing, this is how I normally go about it:

1st generation: Writer or painter
2nd generation: Gardener and nectarmaker
3rd generation: Pursue career quests

With introduction of Gambling into the the mix, I'm anxious to start a new dynasty, where I'm convinced the more rapid accumulation of wealth during the 1st generation will pay higher dividends with respect to being able to ramp up the 2nd generation. For instance, I can afford multiple nectarmaking machines earlier, which means I can get more nectar into my cellar earlier, so I will begin accruing long-term wealth earlier, at a greater rate.

Gambling is a great new skill in Sims 3, and while my natural inclination is for the arts, I cannot but bow to the gambler's much higher earning potential. So, my next dynasty will look like this:

1st generation: Gambler
2nd generation: Gardener and nectarmaker
3rd generation: Writer/Painter or other profession

From a strategic context, it's most important to understand that some endeavors, like gambling, accumulate wealth instantly. Some, like writing, accumulate wealth over short periods. While others, like nectarmaking (and painting if completed works are stored) generate great wealth over long periods. The rather simple trick is to capitalize on these aspects.

Each of us is looking for something different in the game. Most typically, I'm looking to see how outrageously wealthy I can make my 3rd generation sims. This allows me to do absolutely anything I want with my 4th generation sims.

I made a test game and tried doing the painting skill full on. If you're lucky enough to get the opportunity/ies that ask for 20 paintings, you can get an enormous profit instead of just selling them through the inventory or consignment store. My painter made 100k by doing that, when each painting was worth 1-4k. I was pleasantly shocked when my sim was living in a shack at the time. The fresco opportunity is also awesome because of the reward you get with no effort.
But with playing for tips you need to bash the Perform action to get a steady amount of money.
I think I should try writing as a career and see how good the money is.

That opportunity long ago vanished from my game for some reason. Maybe something to do with ep's, I dunno. Writing is okay but highly boring and your sim doesn't have much of a life since they are in front of a computer all the time if you want to make money at it.

One of my writers actually kicked the bucket while finishing a masterpiece. She died of old age and had made only two friends her entire life because she rarely left the house. Even with that marathon of writing she did, it didn't come close to what my virtuoso sims can make.

I agree.  I had this one sim called Kayla Mint.  She was mastering guitar and painting.  Naturally, since I know that guitar makes a lot of money, I had her start on guitar first.  So when she got to level ten, and she had played a few times, she was making about 10k to 20k a day just by playing in the subway.  Eventually I bought her a penthouse.   I've seen some statistiscs somewhere I think about how somebody made around 50k a day or something right?  After playing about 400 times or something?  Guitar looks extremely awesome, and it's an extremely awesome way to make money.  It's a win for everybody!

This wasn't about favorite professions, but about the most lucrative profession. Guitar is certainly a fun profession, but it's not the most productive. While 20K-25K daily earnings is certainly good, it's not even remotely close to what can be earned from gambling.

In real life, I hate gambling. My parents took me to a riverboat in Kansas City once, I lost $20 and felt sick about it. Since then, my husband and I have traveled through Las Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City, and a few of the Native American operated casinos in the Midwestern US, but I've never been tempted, not even once.

For those decrying the Painting profession, have you even tried storing your paintings? You do know they increase in value over time? So, not only can you make money immediately, but if you hang on to some of the paintings they're like putting money in the bank and collecting interest.

Actually, playing guitar for tips can be very lucrative.  What you may not know is that you can have your Sim play compositions over and over so that the amount per tip goes up.  I've seen people make hundreds, even thousands of dollars per tip.  Plus, if EA hasn't changed it, playing in a subway is crazy.  The tips come flying in much faster than normal playing for tips.

I've now found that the more I play blackjack in aggressive mode (even long after maxing out the gambling skill), I can routinely make over 50K per session. @ four sessions daily, that's over 200K per day. I've yet to find any other activity that will net me that much income.

Transfigurifiying tiberium does, especially if you have the gem-u-cut machine and a friendly elixir store clerk. You can get up to three gem dust and one tiberium from cutting with the gem-u-cut machine, and each one of those will sell for over 100,000 simoleons at the elixir consignment store. It only requires transfigurifiable items that are less than around 4000 simoleons to transfigurify one tiberium, which will yield around 400,000 simoleons nearly instantly.

I think insane Carl's sim was doing 25k+...per tip, not daily. That's highly lucrative. I've gotten sims that were close, but i'm not as dedicated to it as Carl. Of course guitar also has the secondary perk of easily super maxing charisma in addition to making loads of money.

I just got another writer going, my first since WA. She's got the traits bookworm, neurotic, computer, loner and hates the outdoors. I've had her writing 24/7 since day one and she just a few days away from elder now...and her royalties are only 45k a week so it's not as lucrative as gems and guitar playing.

Playing for tips in the subway is really broken, you just need some patience to queue up song performance and cancel them.

Yet it is still fun to figure out some other ways that can make a lot of money as well. Writing, painting, gambling, gardening, fishing. Wouldnt hurt to have more ways to do things, keep the game interesting to play. =)
