Can store updates become out-of-date?

I have some store updates from 2010-2011 and I was wondering if those are the type of mods that have to be updated in order to work or they work properly as they are with every new version.

Store updates typically do not go out of date, they do not need replacing with new versions unless EA specifically contacts you and says "hey, this needs to be updated".
