There are 2 elevators in my apartment building, how do I get rid of one?

I accidentally set an elevator as head on my sim now it's stuck on apartment floor. It wont let me off of build mode until I get rid of it, I've tried everything but nothing works, any suggestions? (I've tried cheats but its still there.)

Welcome to the forum. Perhaps the only thing you can do is quit the game without saving, hopefully you won't lose too much progress since the last time you saved.

Oh dear. Sounds like it is a time to roll back to a previous save, to one before you accidentally set the elevator as your sims head.

Just tried it but unfortunately the game saved the first time after the elevator so even going back to the first save doesn't work

So have you tried force quitting the game? If so what happens when you log back in? Does the game take you to build mode immediately or can you play another family etc like normal?

If you can get to the manage households menu you could move your sims into another house and that way you could continue their story without them losing their friendships/jobs etc.

Usually when I have made a mistake and set something in the world through setting the object as my sims head the game will allow me just to continue playing with the stuck item. It is annoying but not game breaking.
