This mechanic is gonna really make it harder to complete the Heartbreaker and Master Romancer LTWs.

Not really, but your Sim has to romance the different "targets" one by one.
One of my Sim did the Master Romancer in June (with Generations) and had no problem. Once she had woohooed with 1 Sim in 1 location, she would break up/ask to be just friend, so that she only had 1 romantic interest at a time. She ended up with the "exploring ones options" reputation, but she was never a cheater.

My sim has listed 3 active Romances (the fourth she said "let's just be friends) and before each new romance there was a notice "Matthew isn't sure he wants to continue this relationship", so she went back and rekindled the relationship. This happened after each new romance. Then, she cornered Matthew and asked him to marry her (I purchased the Master Romantic just before), and he agreed. So they got married, and she still has in her reputation "cheater", because everytime she goes to other guy's houses, they're not home when she arrives. So, she can't break up with them. One is Matthew's "Best Friend Forever", who is now divorced from Stella, who became my sim's "Best Friend Forever". Complicated. I'll have to purchase the "clean slate" because the guys are hard to contact.

I believe that if do so the ALI will give your sim a cheater reputation again, since she will remain with 3 active romances. In your shoes, I'd buy the legendary host LTR and throw a "break-up party".

Guess that would work. It would be interesting to see the sparks fly since Matthew hates Richie now.

This stuff isn't just from generations. There are romantic reputations as long as you are patched up to the generations patch.
