I don't have any accidents or disasters anymore
« on: November 29, 2011, 01:28:23 PM »
I'm just wondering  if anyone else is having them. I never have meteor strikes or lot fires and if I set a Sim without any handiness skill at all to repair a TV, dishwasher surrounded by a puddle pools or a computer they just repair it and develop a 3rd or 4th level of handiness.

I'm not setting out to try to kill them off but it does take some of the spontaneity and surprise out of the game.

I've had 3 meteor strikes in my games so far and 2 of them were because I looked through the telescope for about 2 days with needs on static.  And the other one landed on the school randomly.

My sim caught fire from inventing and my sim has never been electrocuted.
Is electrocuted a rare thing in the game? I thought it was.

I had a kitchen fire. The teenager was making pancakes, the school bus came, and she stopped cooking and went to school. For some reason I couldn't cancel the "go to school" cue in order to have her finish cooking... and the only adult home couldn't "continue cooking" because he had no cooking skill. Instead he got to sit and watch the stove ignite...

I've had a lot of Sims sizzle from attempting to fix something electronic when they had no or low handiness skills. Not any more though.  All I've been having is the predictable death from old age.

Just the other day I had an electrocution (no death) with low handiness while fixing a stereo.   I've had the game for about a year with no accidental fatalities.

The repairman died when fixing the hot tub. I thought those guys were supposed to be professionals?

My inventor guy take several trips to the shower in one day. Did this happen in all your games? I have only had one meteor since ambitions so that is rare for me. Let your sim invent lol.

Wow, really?  Grim came and everything?  They always have the Handy trait and level 10 in the Handiness skill, but the hot tub is a high end repair.  I'm surprised, but I guess it's not impossible.

I'd like to hear from others about having accidents, too.  I've always been very lucky with my Sims and have had very few accidents in the 2.5 years I've been playing Sims 3, but I know that's not normally the case.  If you post about having an accident or disaster, be sure to include how long ago it happened so maybe we can track if it's changed and when the change happened.

I have had meteor strikes in all locations except (cross fingers) Appaloosa Plains.  Meteors always take out my garden and leave a gigantic space rock which is little compensation for the loss of my perfect vegies.

My Sims regularly get singed using the inventing workshop or chemistry labs if your have them invent or discover potions, especially for more than two inventions or discoveries in a row.  I've had my Sims upgrade every appliance and so far, they haven't been zapped from repairs or upgrades.  I had a stove fire only once, on my first game, since then I send them all off to the library on their first day to learn basic cooking and handiness from the freebie books in the bookcase.  Since then, no problems.

Thinking back, it's been a while.  Unless I actively ignore them for a long time my Sims seem to be unusually satisfied. My kitchens don't catch fire, I've only had one meteor and while inventors and Sims at the chemistry table get singed it's not serious. Occasionally Sims used to take it upon themselves to repair things and die. I had a butler get electrocuted while trying to repair a hot tub, various Sims tried to repair electronics and it didn't go well for them.

I'm not trying to kill off my Sims or be morbid but it does make the game less random and surprising.

If I were to really test this what kind of things should I try for? As in what are the most accident prone traits?  Does one town over another seem to spawn more accidents?  Do the cheap stoves catch fire more?

What really brought this up in my mind was the fact that I had three Sims in a row repair electronics safely when they had no handiness skill at all. One repaired a dishwasher while standing in a puddle, one repaired a lap top and one repaired a  big TV.

I've only been playing for about a month, but I've only ever had one accident (an inventor catching herself on fire, about a week after I started playing). I didn't even know you could get meteors until reading this thread! Then again, I do always try to have at least one sim with at least 5 in handiness skill in every house, so maybe that helps to avoid the more common accidents.

My sims are normally safe unless I myself am in a bad mood. Than they seem to have all kinds of accidents. Meteors are very destructive and I hope to never have another one. Yes, the cheap stove catches fire easier than the expensive one. Unlucky is the only trait that comes to mind, but with it Grim won't take him/her if they do die in an accident. I've never noticed one town having more bad luck than another, but normally 95% of my games are played in Sunset Valley so I can't help with that one. Sculpting metal also causes them to frequently catch fire.

Yeah, Grim came and I had this ghost roaming around until I took the urn to the cemetery.

It took 11 generations for me to get one meteor strike. I was happy when it finally happened, because like you said, it adds a bit extra to the game. I was expecting one sooner, especially as I had lots of astrologers (though I guess it's never been proven that the telescope makes it more likely to have more meteor showers).

As for other accidents, I've had a few birthday cakes setting alight. They probably would have happened in the past week, as often as they normally do.

I've had birthday cakes set afire and my sim set the backyard on fire when setting off fireworks. The firemen came and put it out.
