Pets and cabs

Is there anyway that I can get my pets into a cab when going back home?  It works when im going somewhere like the dog park, but when going back home the pets just run home and it takes forever.

The way I do it is to click on the home lot with a Sim who is with the cat/dog and select "Go Here With..." and then choose the pets along with whoever else needs to go home.  This way, they will all come home together.
