So, I want to know if you can end a date earlier than the timer? Because I find the dates are really long and my sims have other stuff to do

If you hover the cursor over the timer there is a option to end the date early.
Edit: Just to be more clear you hover over the round timer at the end of the progress bar in the upper left corner. Click it to end the date.

Gee, naturally there was a super easy way to do this, and I missed it! Thanks grimsoul, I have a sim with the soulmate aspiration and there are a lot of dates in my future.
