Daddy #11

As you may or may not (probably not) have noticed, I asked that my most recent attempt at Who's Your Daddy be moved to the graveyard.  Playing with Aurelia and her family on epic lifespan is extremely relaxing, but the odds of finishing in this lifetime aren't good.  Something about the choice of epic lifespan, allowing Aurelia's children to age naturally and spacing them so far apart may have been just a tad unrealistic.  So while they are safely resting in my saves folder, I have the inspiration to try again.  Recently I reattempted 2011's Baby Boomer III challenge and, unlike the real thing, I had lots of fun this time.  17 kids isn't that far away from 26, so why not give the WYD another go, too?  One of these days I'm going to have to finish this thing I created.

Once again, don't expect much of a story, mostly just me poking fun at my pixel people.  I hate not keeping a record and sharing what's going on, though, so I've got to write something.

This is Genesis Sims.

She is rebellious, friendly, charistmatic, flirty and a virtuoso.  She's actually an adult from the bin, but I aged her down in CAS and gave her a very, very different look.  I can't call her steam punk really, but that was definitely my inspiration.  Her lifetime wish is One Sim Band, something nice and easy that she can do while she's stuck at home.

Not that being stuck at home is what she does at first.  It took about four sim weeks of prep to get to where I really felt ready to start with the babies.  In retrospect, I probably should have waited longer.

Genesis does buy herself a motorcycle.  I chose Riverview for one of my favorite lots, that one up on the hill out of town by the Newbies, only to discover it occupied by a randomly placed Showtime lot.  Oh, well, I substituted a nice, long lot by the river instead.  The motorcycle means Genesis zips around town quickly.  She also makes it look really, really cool.

In other attempts at this challenge, loneliness was a major obstacle, and pets usually mean a significant source of income in my game, so I went ahead and found a pet for Genesis.  This kitten, who I renamed Gremlin for his resemblance to the creatures from the movie of that name, became Genesis' companion.  In reality, she didn't really need it, but it's still nice to have a pet.  I've refrained from sending Gremlin out to hunt incessantly to sell the creatures he catches.  Too much money too fast is no fun at all.

And what can be more fun than lawn living?  Keeping things simple, folks.

I actually just received Supernatural and Seasons as gifts today.  I really don't want to screw this newborn (all puns intended) challenge up by installing them now.  Can I wait until it's done?  I doubt it.

Free for the time being of ties at home, Genesis makes the rounds, joining the stylist career every other day or so just to quit again immediately.  Jobs are boring and I get the feeling Genesis wouldn't approve of working for the man, not even if that man is Lucky Perkins.

Besides, why not spread the music love and get people's toes tapping?

Music brought these people together.

And these.

But not these.  Unicorns?  Seriously?

In my previous attempt at this, I simply took fathers in the order my sim met them and I started to do the same here.  Genesis' first contact was Tom Shallow and they actually got a decent romance going, but Tom simply would not let things move past a certain point.  Even when it was clear things with June had ended, he didn't make himself available.  So I had a different idea.  With the new romance scoring, why not take the sims who find Genesis attractive in the order than I find them?  It might even mean I don't need to purchase the Master of Seduction lifetime reward.  So Tom got booted and a growing list of more willing men has taken his place.

Finding them was not difficult.  Playing for tips guaranteed Genesis enough acquaintances to get a friendship boost from the skill challenge.  Then she made a kajillion friends when she took an opportunity at the school that made her friends with all the children and teens in town and voila, virtually instantaneous friends with everyone.

Except Skip Broke.  For some reason "all the kids are doing it" didn't move him at all.  And Tom Shallow, who still won't give Genesis anything more than a friendly hug.

Most of Genesis' friends are made this way.  I never like sending my sims to just hang out on community lots because they're usually too crowded and lacking in amenities.  The performance park is my new favorite place to go, though.  Genesis plays for tips when she can, but when she has a wish to jam, everybody jams.  At least everybody male.

Finally, about three weeks in, Genesis earns herself her age freeze potion and things can slow down just a little.  I decided it was time for babies.

Daddy #1 is Larry Cooper, who in this Riverview is the proprietor of the performance park.  Usually he's a paparazzo, but he's always fun and he really digs Genesis.

His occupation proves to be a stumbling block, however.  It's virtually impossible to get him to come over at a decent time.  He's always working!  So I cheated just a smidge.  The performance park actually lacked a restroom, so I built one.  It happens to have a shower to allow woohoo in the park.  Sue me, I still had to get him to agree!

So right after Age Freeze, I purchased Genesis No Jealousy, but something seems to have gone wrong.  Larry was very upset about Tom.  Yeah, Tom, the guy who won't kiss Genesis and says they're just really good friends who sleep in the same bed.  Yeah, Larry, the guy who couldn't leave the park to come over for a visit dropped what he was doing to throw a tantrum at Genesis.

Woohooing Larry in the park also gave Genesis a cheater reputation.  I'm thinking I should have saved up for Above Reproach before I started in with the kids, especially in light of the lady's prior Shallow entanglement.  It's next on the list.

Anyhow, Genesis and Larry's romance was over almost as soon as it began, but we got what we needed.  The chimes have sounded!

I was curious as to whether Genesis would ride her motorcycle while pregnant.  She did, and she still makes it look cool.

I thought for a bit Genesis and Larry might be able to patch things up.  I may think their trials are funny, but I don't actually like unhappy sims.  Sadly, Larry called it quits almost as soon as they were friends again.  Well, like I said, we got what we needed.

A baby!  Genesis wanted a girl, so I loaded her up with watermelons and Antonia Cooper Sims arrived.  She's a Loner and a Genius.

So, like I said, just observations from my part, but hopefully this will move a little faster than the last one.  Thanks for reading and I hope you'll check back in next time!

Ugh, we really need some walls.  This guy isn't even on the list!

I'm so glad you have a new story! I love the way you write.

What I find funniest about this is that I work with a gal named Genesis... who looks almost exactly like this. But has more hair. So is fun for me to follow your progress.

I find this such a fascinating challenge. I've started it before a couple of times but I am so OCD about it it's hard to get far. I wish you luck!

KachieSan, that's very funny!  I chose the name for its meaning, not really knowing any real people with it.   ;D

ombradellarosa, I find there's a point in this challenge where you have to give up control in order to succeed, at least for a little awhile.  It's always tough for micromanaging me, too!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

An update.  So soon?  In anticipation of a real baby arriving soon, I'm playing frantically, trying to stock up on playtime until it disappears for the next 18 years.

Last time, we had a few incidents involving uninvited guests bothering small babies.  We don't have those problems anymore.

Now the babysitters are free to goof around like all our guests.

As in my original Sims 2 Who's Your Daddy attempt, I'm playing with a self-enforced rule I call Answer the Door.  In Sims 3, random visitors are rare, but when someone does get invited over, either by Genesis or her children, they're free to stay as long as they want.  Most stay in excess of 24 hours unless something strange happens.  (Something strange does happen later.)  I try to keep them away from certain things (like babies), but otherwise they can entertain themselves however they'd like.

Antonia isn't confined to that crib for long.  She turns into quite the cutest toddler ever.  I say that about every toddler, but it's only because each one is actually cuter than the last.  Toni is rocking those little buns.  She looks absolutely nothing like Genesis, except perhaps for the darkness of her skin, though its color is Larry's.  I've never seen a child look so little like a parent before.

Whoever she looks like, she melts hearts.

This is Rhett Funke.  He's not important, but his presence here bears explanation.  If you played Sims 2, you'll remember face #1.  Everyone loved face #1 because it was the most attractive face template.  In Sims 3 we have the same thing, that bland yet not unattractive face all the generated townspeople have.  The original point of WYD was to make me stretch my boundaries with the appearances of the sims I created.  If every father has the same face, that is boring and counters that purpose.  So, with the birth of each child, I'm importing a family from somewhere else.  Antonia's birth brought the Funkes.  That's not to say I'll use them or even that the game won't move them out again right away, but there's that extra chance of running into a potential father who actually looks like an individual.

Not that the list is short right now.  I probably have about half of what I'll need, provided they all stay alive long enough.

Anyway, back to the family.

What I love best is letting sims do what they want.  This particularly applies to children and pets.  I fill the lot with toys, they make the choices.  At first, all the choices are on the lawn.

But money is slowly rolling in from the occasional space rock, opportunities and Gremlin's hunting forays.  The family has a living room and Toni and Gremlin make the most of it.

So what does cause your guests to exit early?  Fire.  Travis McDermott was all like "You set pancakes on fire, what's wrong with you?!  You stink."  Then he left.

Fires only happen once in any given family of mine, I know better, but Genesis pulled off two.  She's lacking in cooking skills because I was having her eat soup and cereal at first to save time and get her out and fulfilling wishes sooner and it shows.  At least the second one didn't burn down the entire kitchen/office/bathroom nook.

I'm still trying to space the kids out so there's not more than one baby/toddler at a time, so a few days before Toni's birthday, babydaddy # 2 gets an invite.

It's Jon Lessen, not the babysitter.

Jon's aged a little, but he and Genesis get along really well.  He had zero problems with her past or present.  The purchase of Above Reproach awhile ago probably helped with that.

Then it's birthday time for Toni before the new baby arrives.  We didn't throw a party, but the postman invited himself anyhow.  He took a piece of cake, dropped it on the floor and ran off.  A real winner.  Can't imagine what he's not on the list.

Toni, already a Loner and a Genius, rolls Angler for her third trait, which inspires me to Tom Sawyer.  She's a barefooted, overall-wearin', fishin' GENIUS.

I don't usually indulge fishermen in large families like this, but the Sims do live right on the river, so it's an easy hop, skip and barefooted jump to a bunch of wish-related happiness for Toni.

With Toni able to look after herself for the moment and the new baby not yet arrived, Genesis takes a day to go back to the Performance Park to play for tips.  She adds a couple new babydaddies to the list and earns enough to buy some big girl toys for Toni.

Then, in the middle of the night, baby B arrives.  Welcome to Basil Jon Sims!  Basil rolls Clumsy and Good for traits.

Thanks for reading!  See you next time!

Move on, folks, just a dinosaur with a fishing pole.  Nothing to see here.

Thank you, Louise.   :)

It's only been eight days since I last posted my progress, but it feels like an eternity.  If you didn't notice the couple posts I made on the Babble Thread, the baby we were expecting and hoping to adopt was born early on 9 December.  He's doing great, but he's not going to be ours.  On 12 December his parents changed their minds.  It's been a really rough week, so rough I couldn't even bring myself to load the game at all.  You'd think a game about so many babies would hit a sore spot, and it does, just a little bit.  It's also a great escape from reality, though, so I'm still chugging along.  We don't know when we might be contacted about another placement, so I might just be able to finish this project at last.

So this is dedicated to Will, who now has a different name, but who was my nooboo for three wonderful days.  I'll always remember him.

Last time we ended with the birth of Baz (Basil), the son of Jon Lessen.  Genesis' first child, daughter Toni (Antonia) is now a child and boy does it make a difference!  Though Genesis is still tied down more or less at home unless she calls a babysitter, Toni can a) stay home by herself and b) collect rocks for Mommy like a good little girl.

Baz becomes a toddler.  I like to let the game roll the first two or sometimes three traits to help inspire me to a character, then I'll choose the rest.  Baz is good and clumsy and that gives me ideas.

Time goes by and Toni has her teen birthday.  You can see I've tweaked Baz's shirt.  What you don't see right now is that Toni doesn't keep this look, but it is a good shot of her face.  She looks absolutely nothing like Genesis, definitely favoring Larry.  Her nose is itty bitty.  I don't know where that comes from.

Then it's time for Daddy #3.  I'm not ready for Genesis to marry yet, and it's too bad.  She and Dallas Shallow have a lot of chemistry.  As always, Dallas got a moderate makeover for his role as babydaddy.  I don't change genetics, except for muscle tone (since these townies don't have any).  I also add body hair for these guys, at least.  If the gentleman is randomly generated and has genericface, I roll him a new face, too, but preserve his old eye color.  Dallas just needed some new duds.

This conception was tougher than the others.  I had limited time before Toni came home from school.  The only enclosed rooms are a half bath and the garage, so privacy is an issue.  What's more, I'd forgotten woohooing sims will ignore toddlers in cribs, but not those on the floor.  I had to escort Baz into the garage and lock him in.  Even so, it took seven tries and I was convinced I'd failed.  I never heard a lullaby.  Toni came home from school and then went to work, allowing more tries.  I was debating whether or not to knock Dallas to the next spot or try again the next day.  Because . . .

Dallas Shallow was with Ma Bagley.  I know, what?!  I didn't notice, but then Ma died in the middle of the second woohoo.  Dallas was much less receptive once she died.  Cheating on her was okay, but not honoring her memory?  Unthinkable!

Yet as you can see, it worked.  I never did hear a lullaby, but Genesis definitely became pregnant.  And Dallas was still sobbing over Ma.  In the same bathroom.  Isn't it ironic?  Don't you think?

Toni would like to take this opportunity to show you her real self.  I had imagined Toni as a sort of prodigal outcast, the sort of person who relates to animals better than people.  Hence why her triple agent look from earlier didn't work for her (despite looking gorgeous!)  This is more her style.

She also went to a dance and wowed everyone and was voted prom queen.

So much for consistency of character, hmmm?

Baz has a birthday before the baby arrives.

His new trait is Slob.  I tried to make him overweight by feeding him umpteen extra bottles, but it didn't work.  He was decidedly average upon aging up.  I edited that in CAS.  Otherwise he's unaltered.  He does resemble Jon a little, with Genesis' coloring.

We know pregnant ladies will ride motorcycles, but in a dress?  Yes, why yes, they will!

With no one at home to look after, births in this family actually happen at the hospital.  Meet Claude Dallas Sims.  He's Excitable and Insane.  Should be fun!

Thanks for reading!

They run away if you look at them, but they have no problem napping on the lot next door.  Hopefully I haven't put you to sleep!

Insane and excitable? That will be interesting. :P
Toni is cute, perhaps the nose look better when she is a adult. Teens can have a rather round face.
Buz look like a clumsy slob lol!
Sims is the best way to escape reality. I've done it too, believe me.

Would I get the ribbon for least reliable commentor? I've been reading your attempts from the start and I don't think I've ever posted a comment. You most certainly haven't put me to sleep.  :)  You've got a lovely writing style and I always enjoy seeing genetic experiments (speaking of which, jaws and noses always look smaller on female Sims, which is why Larry's nose looks so tiny on Toni). This will probably seem like a silly thing to comment on, but Genesis's maternity outfits are gorgeous! I thought I was sick of that base game dress but you made it look amazing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your adoption trouble, CSquared. It's very sad to be set back like that, but at least now you know you'll make wonderful parents when the time comes.

I am sad to hear about the baby, but I know the right one will come to you when the time is right. I'm glad to know you have Sims to take your mind off things. It's wonderful for that, isn't it?

Genesis sure makes cute babies! Congrats on Baby #3! And it is definitely ironic, and yeah I really do think ;)
