Glad to hear Gabriel's doing well so far. So Lucifer's not going to show up until Gabriel finishes a skill, career, and LTW, right?

That's right :). Gabriel also should have a child of his own by then, but that's not as important as the rest. To be honest, I think by the time he reaches his LTW, he'll probably have one anyway (that's why his third choice for Renaissance Sim is Science ;) ). This first part wouldn't have been necessary if my hard disk hadn't crashed, because... Gabriel had his own DNA ready to be cloned (as well as some others, like Jamie the butler and Fluffs the doll). He also had enough cash on hand to build a home for them.

Will post update as soon as my sight clears up. Black spots everywhere, can barely make out what I'm typing <.<. Will hopefully clear up soon.

To Raise The Devil. (Gabriel's Return)(4) Looking around
« Reply #18 on: December 07, 2013, 04:38:14 AM »
When I wake up the second day, a storm has taken over Midnight Hollow. The skies never seem to clear up over here. It looks like night even during day hours. I already start missing blue skies...

Because of the dreary weather outside, I immediately start sculpting, without even bothering to get out of my sleepwear. It's not like it will get dirty, after all. This is angel-clothing. No washing necessary... One of many mysteries Mariska never found out more about. I wonder how she's doing... And the others too. Are they even still alive? I know time passes differently back home, so who knows how long ago my previous journey has been.

Mmmm, there's a sale at the furniture shop in town... Maybe I should go and check it out, but I already have everything I need for the time being. Of course, said shop is rather close to the consignment store. I really would like to take my second statue along though, so I keep working for a while longer. My second work turns into a Two-ton table, which I may actually be able to use. Even so, I think it's more important to sell my products for now. I don't really need a table... and there is only so much room in my house.

In the end, I decide to check out the sale and put up both of my works at the same time. I need cash more than I need furniture at the moment. I'm sure I can find something to eat while I'm outside too. There's nothing interesting for sale in the furniture store, though... this building may be a nice hideout for runaways. All amenities are available. I'd better keep this place in mind. Lucifer may very well end up here if I ever lose him!

I eat at the diner, another dark place in town, before heading to the consignment store.

The shop owner, one Edmund Flynn, doesn't mind taking over my sculptures, though he seems to think I'm pretty boring. Our short conversation after I hand over my items tells me the man is grumpy... and doesn't like children. He must really hate the store's next door neighbor then. When I also find out he is evil, I run out of the store through the back door before a fight breaks out. I refrain from asking how he feels about working next door to the town's large toy store, which is my next destination. I'm extremely curious about this store, because I'm sure I'll spend quite some time at it as soon as Lucifer arrives. He may be forced to stay indoors, that doesn't mean he needs to be bored, right?

I can't remember building a furniture or toy store on Salvation Isle... and I hope Mariska's descendents won't think bad of me for failing them this way. I just never heard of these kind of shops before...

The toy store... is definitely a much better place than the consignment store... and I think I've located the workshop too. I'm already sorry I can never bring Lucifer over here. I'm sure he would love to see this place. At least, he should as long as he's not grown up yet.

After that shopping trip (in which I didn't really see anything to buy yet), I went back home to shower, sculpt and sleep. I did dream about making Midnight Hollow into a lighter place though. I suppose I can, if I can spare the time (and the simoleons) once Lucifer is here.

I also finally managed to get the first part of the new world done... as well as the first two houses that will be part of it.

For the first draft, the cemetery will be a Gabriel-ified Grim's Ghastly Manor, just because I love that place. It's the only location I actually plan on using more or less unchanged (for now, at least).

I was wondering whether anyone is interested in the world or the buildings? If so, I may start another build-a-world thread. Hopefully this one will get finished without any hardware trouble <.<.

I'm definitely interested in seeing the buildings you make :)

It seems like Gabriel is doing pretty good on his second day, sculpting is definitely a good money maker.
From the moment I fell down that rabbit hole I've been told what I must do and who I must be. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alice, and of not being Alice, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here.

Sculpting also helps with furnishing ;) and it's one of my favourite skills to have my 'main characters' max.

I've started readying the build thread off line, so it should be up some time in the coming week :). Next update will be for tomorrow though (or maybe a small chance at this evening), I don't have time to play a lot today.

I don't know whether I'll be posting today... One of our dogs died last night. He was only 9.

Sorry to hear that, it can be devastating when a pet dies :(

You post when you feel like it, I understand completely.

I played a little today, to distract myself.

I hope I can upload the pics and post an update tomorrow, but our mother's coming for a visit. She often does on Wednesdays. It will depend on the length (and strain) of that visit.

To Raise The Devil. (Gabriel's Return)(5) Gaining money
« Reply #26 on: December 11, 2013, 10:10:49 AM »
(Thanks to the 'I spy' load screens, Gabriel already earned enough for his first award by the third morning, but I'm letting him wait for the Fast Learner reward first)

Though it's still Summer the rain doesn't let up for a moment. I wonder whether this has anything to do with the darkness here. In any case, I concentrate on my first requirements, as I want my twin brother with me as soon as possible. I don't know if I will manage to retrain him in the way Mother wants, but I'm sure going to give it my best. At least She is willing to let me try for as long as I want, no matter how often She has to make Lucifer into a toddler again.

Even though my home may be rather boring, I don't want to spend any simoleons in making it brighter or better furnished. Every simoleon I can save up for his arrival will make the day he can join me come closer. This time, money is an important factor of the first part of my challenge, so I hesitate on spending any. I'd much rather change some of my furniture for things that give me more time to work than for items to cheer up the place.

"Gabriel?" I can hear Azaziel whisper as I work on my next sculpture. "If you need more simoleons, you may want to travel to the future some time... and check the lottery results. That way you may be able to get enough for a mansion really fast." I frown at his advice, wondering whether that wouldn't be considered cheating. Of course, there are no rules against using the Sims' games for money, but that kind of tactics feel wrong to me. "Lucifer wouldn't hesitate," my younger sibling adds, as he notices my hesitation. He seems surprised that this makes me even more reluctant to use his scheme... though I'm here exactly to make sure my twin doesn't do anything wrong or evil any more.

In between sculpting, I also try to keep my house clean... and start painting. When the consignment store lets me know that they have managed to sell my first sculpture, I'm working on the third one of the next batch to sell. I will deliver the next group of sculptures (and paintings) to the store tomorrow I think. That way at least I will have some simoleons coming in.

(He is now a level 4 in sculpting and a level 1 in Charisma.)

(He also has sprung two more wishes to learn new skills: Social Networking and Bot building. I want to allow him to choose to learn new skills himself... so he will be learning those two now, along with painting. I'm not sure how he'll learn Bot building though. That item is too big for his house, so I'm wondering whether he can learn it in the future, without having to buy the skill item for now.)

About the world/buildings I'm working on. Would you prefer me to wait with putting up that threat until the first building is actually furnished or not?

I have two shells ready (both mansions, but for different islands), but the furnishing of the first and biggest one is taking quite some time. (Really. I've spend three days furnishing... the hallway last week. Today I finished the library.)

I am using different folders this time though, because of the sheer amount of EA-store content. I've build the shells in my 'Build'-folder, copied the store items I needed to the 'Buy'-folder, where I'm now working. Gabriel's game-folder is still another one, which only has the premium items, Midnight Hollow and part of the male CAS-items.

I guess I could show the shells, but only for one of them the actual placing in the world has been decided. (That would be the 64x64 one... the more modern one is on a 50x50 lot)

To Raise The Devil. (Gabriel's Return)(6) Becoming a Celebrity...
« Reply #28 on: December 12, 2013, 07:05:18 AM »

When I get to the consignment store again, it's full with celebrities and paparazzi! They're rather curious about the new sculptor in town, though, so they don't really mind me. I seem to get along quite well with one of them, Hyun-Moon Yun... maybe he can become a good friend of mine in time. I'm sure his music can help me get over my aversion for the lack of light in Midnight Hollow. Our rather public starting friendship helps my sales a lot. Before I even leave the building, all of my sculptures have sold.

However, I call it a day once zombies start arriving in the store. I hope my new friend follows my example, as I don't have the skill in Elixir brewing any more to save him should he fall to one of their number. I think I will stay home and work until the danger passes.

Of course, I now have become a celebrity in my own right. I remember only too well what this will mean: paparazzi trying to get under my skin. I will have to be careful with what I do in public from now on, as I don't want to cause anyone any hardship.

That evening, I learn to paint again. It feels strange, knowing I was quite good at this so long ago. After all, we used to spend most of our family time painting together, back at Redemption... but only when my toilet breaks down, I remember there are other skills too. Skills that I will need for my own comfort. With a sigh, I crawl into bed, realizing I will have to unclog the toilet in the morning if I don't want my small bathroom to be flooded all too soon.

(lol. And now he wants to learn 'a new skill' as well. He should be getting close with both Social Networking and Cooking by now though, so that one will take care of itself.)

I think you should post the buildings when you think is best. Of course furnished might be a good idea :) as for the bot building skill, you can learn it in the future without needing to buy the workshop. Would Gabriel be allowed to keep the bots to help out Lucifer comes or will he have to sell them to make it harder?
