Maybe they go stir-crazy and that's why they leave. Unless the developers programmed a response to stir-craziness, they'd probably leave, just as they do.

Maybe this is why they run off?

I forgot all about reading those, lol.  That might make a difference.  That is probably why mine is still there, he has a relationship with both ladies of the house. :)

I fired mine Butler after 2 days. I don't need a cook in house since I have nice fridge and master chef in the house. Maid was cleaning what household members didn't. She had the nerve to skinny dip with a couple who were already making out in hot tub without knowing them, on her first day of work!? And she kept taking beds from everyone, it made a mess and I couldn't say who is sleeping in who's bed. And her car in the street was annoying. So so far, I don't like them ;D

You're supposed to assign her bed to her.  If you click on the bed you want the butler to sleep in, you'll have the option to make it her bed.  That way, she won't take any of the other beds.

Thanks Pam, I didn't know how to assign her to her bed since everyone else had their own, I assumed she will pick the free one. But she was too annoying anyway so I was looking for an excuse :D

Yes, I was bored with reading one, so I scrolled through the others, and was surprised to find one about the butler! AND then with all the trouble people have been having with them...

Random butler question

If I were to build a kitchen and put a lock on the door to "Everyone but me" will that also keep the butler out? If so, that might be a way to fix the butlers' penchant for making random feasts.

Or he might spend all his time at the locked door, stomping his foot. If you try it out, let us know!

No, at least not in my case. Both family members were good friends with the butler, and one of them had just spent several hours interacting with him, and still he ran off as soon as both of my sims were off the lot ::) . He has not been seen for two days ...

I don't think it's random.  He fixes a meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Every day.  The times may vary, but I think it's pretty steady with 3 meals a day, plus sometimes dessert.

I had to fire mine - he seemed to cook every time any sim was hungry, which would be fine if every sim in the household didn't get the "grab a plate" interaction added to their action queue. I put up with it until my butler sabotaged my Sim's wedding party - as soon as the guests arrived he made a plate of autumn salad and everybody immediately went to grab a plate. I couldn't cancel the action from the sims that I didn't control, so most of the wedding party - including the groom - sat eating salad, whilst the bride twiddled her thumbs. Total Disaster!

Think I'm going to have to try this out. My Sim did a very Bad Thing, and I had to hire a butler to help her out. So far, he's actually left the kitchen alone, but I'll remodel the kitchen to lock him out.

As far as the butlers going missing, there are 2 that are terrible for it.  I'm really hoping its a bug, but Bertram Plunkett and Bret Marion around the second day both got the meet-up thought bubble and ran off the lot.  It ended up being like many have said here that you can't call them to get them back to the lot because they say they are working and don't know when they will be finished.

I had a save just before they both were hired so I tested it some.  3 times with Plunkett, as soon as he makes breakfast on the second morning he runs off, with Marion it was around noon of the second day.

What does kinda work is locking the doors to "all but my household"  once they are inside.  They both got the thought bubble to meet-up once, and when they couldn't get through the door they went back to work and haven't tried to leave since, been about 3 days.  I have unlocked the door and they haven't run yet, you could leave it locked but if they need to take out the garbage or recycling they just stand at the door.

Edit:  Well, unlocking the door does allow them to escape after another couple days, again he tried to meet-up.  I'm starting to wonder if its a bug at the lot at 272 Windsor drive, the only open lot with the vista moodlet, because I have had several games at 64 applewood (no moodlet) with butlers and never had one run off like that.  I am going to test it out a little more and see.
