2020 Sims 4 World Ranking
« on: December 16, 2019, 06:39:38 AM »
2020 Sims 4 World Ranking

The World Ranking has two components: a Wins component (50%) and a Participation component (50%). It's a simple ranking system, but still an effective measure of player caliber. To receive a World Ranking a player must finish a) three regular Tournament challenges, or b) one Major and one regular Tournament challenge.

The goal for this year is 50 ranked players. Jump in and help make it happen.

2020 World Ranking — July 6

Each Tournament challenge has a spreadsheet column. Each column cell is a ratio of how many players a player beat in relation to how many could have been beaten. Let’s take a look at Joe Blow and how Joe did in the first 3 events of the season. Event #1 had 25 players and Joe finished 8th, so he beat 17 out of a possible 24 players (Joe is not counted). Joe’s event #1 cell is =17/24. Event #2 had 30 players and Joe finished 6th. Event #2’s cell is =24/29. Event #3 had 25 players and Joe won it. Event #3’s cell is =24/24.

Down the spreadsheet after all the individual challenge columns is the “Sum of Wins” column - the total of all of one’s ratios in each challenge column. So, for the first 3 events, Joe’s “Sum of Wins” column is 2.537. Next comes the “# of Events” column - a simple count function for all challenge columns. Joe has only participated in 3 challenges so far, so his “# of Events” figure is 3. The “Sum of Wins” is then divided by the “# of Events” for an “Ave of Wins” column: 2.537 / 3 = .845

Now it’s time to add the weight for the Wins component. The Wins weight carries 50% of the final score, so we take .845 X .50 and get .422 for Joe’s final Wins component.

The second component is Participation. Everyone who submits a score in a challenge receives a 10% participation bonus figured into their ranking. So, there’s a 10-event cap at which point a player receives 100% of the Participation component. If someone participates in more than 10 Tournament challenges, then a player’s best finishes will be used to compute the World Ranking.

Joe participated in the first 3 events. His participation bonus is .30 (10% per event). Participation counts for 50% of the final score, so we then take .30 X .50 to get Joe’s final Participation component of .15.

Joe’s World Ranking is his final Wins component + his final Participation component: .422 + .15 = .572

Tip: If you have limited time and are forced to pick and choose which events to participate in, then do not miss the two Major events because they both count as two regular events.

With 3 events now in the books already for 2020, the first World Ranking is now posted. No real surprises at the top given either Rainbow Dash or Sruixan have won all 3 events. Grats to both of you. :) I forgot Lena and Nandarelle did not participate in the first event, so hopefully there will be more players added soon when they finish their 3rd event.

No matter where you fall, as always, my thanks to all participants.

I have my own Discord channel, but it's mainly for the Challenge team and my other gaming friends I play Diablo and other games with. But, that's not a bad idea. If I remember, I'll mention it to Carl and MrsFlynn...something just for forumers.

Whoa, I didn't expect to have scored so high! :o Still it won't last as I'm not participating in the Pancakes challenge and I'm not sure about the Hobos To Heroes one either so other players will no doubt catch up to and overtake me.

I don't mind joining a Discord group but I may not chat much, I'm not very sociable, lol, could be nice to find other people to play different games with even though I use Steam for all my games.

It's nice to finally have a World Ranking, it kind of makes the Tournament Challenges feel more complete if you know what I mean. :)

I've already got discord channels set up for my Startrek RPG Group (we role play via forum, not Discord) and my multiple National Novel Writing Regions.

One more won't do any harm for me. and it would be great to just have another place to chat to more people given current world events and the inability to meet up physically at the present time.

The World Ranking has been updated to include results from Pancakes Triumphant. Rainbow Dash remains in 1st place despite her not particpating in that event, but the top players narrowed her lead a bit.

The following players earned a World Ranking since the Pancakes event was their 3rd event -- GlazeyLady, LenaLJ, Nandarelle, Kirstie, and Ginj. Grats to all of you. :)

Call it a "senior moment" - lol. The World Ranking should now be correct. Sruixan, LenaLJ, Nandarelle, and Nikitachi were slightly out of place on the Pancakes leaderboard, and because of that I entered in incorrect information in my WR spreadsheet. All is good now. Sruixan jumped ahead of Rainbow to claim top spot by the slightest of margins. Should be a great fight this year -- lots of time left.

The World Ranking has been updated to include the results from Hobos to Heroes. Sruixan extended her place at the top of the mountain with a nice win in that event. Vesper and Nikitachi leapfrogged over Rainbow Dash and now sit at 2nd and 3rd given Rainbow sat out the latest event.

Hobos to Heroes was the 3rd event for quite a few players and now are included in the World Ranking: Isabelalabe, SoulGal7, lizzi6692, and Eighty8Keys. Welcome to all of you. :)

Bill Nye's Science Challenge just wrapped up last night and the World Ranking has been updated. The big news towards the top of the leaderboard is Vesper, who was in 2nd place, dropped to 5th. Nikitachi, Rainbow Dash, and LenaLJ all jumped ahead of Vesper who was not able to participate due to frustrating game bugs. :( Better luck in Baby Boomer, Vesper.

The Bill Nye event was the 3rd challenge for celinegreen and CynKuy, so welcome to the World Ranking to both of you.

With the close of the season’s first Major, Baby Boomer, the World Ranking has been updated. There’s no question Sims 4 is in its twilight, but I was hoping for more than 23 players. Nonetheless, it was a fun event and a new twist on a popular forum annual event. Grats to oshizu for the win. No stranger to high level competition, oshizu took 3rd place overall at the end of the 2018 season, but it’s been awhile since she won a single event. This season she is a latecomer to the Tournament and this Baby Boomer win was her 2nd event which puts her in the World Ranking. 4 other players were also added to the World Ranking — Poffin, Whimsical Peanut, junegem, and the challenge team’s very own MarianT. Welcome to all of you. :)

Sruixan posted an 11th hour great score last night and solidified her stranglehold on 1st. Given Baby Boomer counts twice in weight, I was wondering if LenaLJ would leapfrog over Nikitachi, but that was not the case. No other real shifts aside from Rainbow Dash dropping significantly since she opted to not participate.

The Handiness World Championships ended last night, so the World Ranking has been updated. Not too many changes at the top -- Sruixan still holds onto 1st place, but Nikitachi closed the gap between 1st and 2nd slightly. Lena opted out of the event and because of that quite a few players jumped ahead of her -- Vesper, mismck and Elinoee. Elinoee and Lena are essentially tied - I had to carry their World Ranking to a 4th place to rank them properly. Several other players further down were also in the same boat. Noyo joins the World Ranking - welcome. :)
