Free food

I am playing a rags to riches in Sulani and the neighbours regularly bring round food which is great. Is this just part of island living and something that happens for every Sim. Or is it because my Sim has the child of the island trait.

It must be for anyone living there, because they showed up for me a lot and my sims didn't have the trait.  For some reason though, they usually left the plate on the ground, at the point where they would spawn before they came and visited.
Neighbors will also walk in and visit, unannounced and without even knocking if you have the sliding doors from IL. 
And if you have a fire start, people will run in and put it out.
