How good are the chances to restore a broken save?
« on: July 07, 2026, 03:51:03 PM »
Hello.

I have this up on other forums as well to get maximal input (but everyone seems to be out or to uninterested to answer).

Anyhows, I did play some sims 3 the other day. I did pause and save my game to do other things but when I later wanted to save it again and close down the game (due to bad game performance) my game seemed to be stuck on save so I did close the game down with help of the Task manager.  After that a restart of the computer was needed to re-launch the game and when I came into my save I did not end up at the home lot, I did end up at the world overview and all lots were empty. So somehow the save was broken.  :'(

Now, I don't know if it's possible to restore the save or even if it's worth the time to do so. If I only lose the last hour of gameplay it's okay with me but if the save is doomed, or in case I lose a lot of gameplay made that day I might as well leave it. I have to check what the correct name of the save is but in the Sims3/Saves folder I find two folders that might be correct. One of them also have a corresponding Backup folder (at least this is how it looks on my USB stick that was updated a year ago or so). I know the time frame when my save attempt broke down and I'm sure I should find a save file that it slightly older. But would it be worth the effort?

If you rename the backup from SunsetVIPPopulated01.sims3.backup to SunsetVIPPopulated01.sims3, that will restore it as a save. Make sure you save the SunsetVIPPopulated01.sims3 folder somewhere else first just in case -- this will change your data.

If SunsetVIPPopulated01.sims3 isn't the save name -- just replace that with what the save name is here. Best of luck!

Okay, so that how it works. As I don't feel I have anything to lose I will try that. I will post in this thread and tell if it worked or not.

Okay, so that worked very well.  ;D I like easy fixes! Funny that no one suggested me that before. The game take a lot of time loading in the save but I guess it had to re-crate the Backup file while loading. But as told, it worked. I came back into play about the time I left (I did save when the one of my sims who have a scheduled job  came home from work, and now I did find her halfway through her shift). Thank you Seabody!
