I have sets of bunk beds but my child Sim always chooses the double bed over the bunk bed for a bed time story.  The option are found in with the chat options, though your child can "ask <parent> for a bedtime story" or your parent can "read <child> a bedtime story".  Both times the kid ended up in the double bed.  Personally its what happens next that is really cute... the parent reads, kid gets drowzy and falls asleep, parent tucks the child in and kisses him/her good night.  One of the cuter actions (still think child playing peek-a-boo with toddler is the best) the Sims have.

As far as I can tell, you cannot read a child to sleep in the top bunk, but all the other beds work fine. The reason the kids keep switching beds seems to be because they are going to the nearest bed available, like when you tell your sim to read something and they sit on the chair that's right near the book case, instead of the couch that's a bit farther away and more comfortable. At least I think that's what they're doing. ::)

Thats an excellent point, my double bed was always closer than the bunk beds.  that explains it.  I might have to investigate this further to be sure but it makes total sense.  The Sims do that for woohooing and washing dishes (why do they wash dishes in the bathroom? haha)

My children would walk past their rooms with the bunk beds and climb the stairs to the parent's room with the double bed so I don't think that is the case.  Even when they were in the room with the bunk beds they would head to the double bed upstairs.

As far as I know the normal Mysterious Mr Gnomes are the girl gnomes too. As I understand it, you need to have a wedding with the wedding arch on your property where you have two gnomes to get baby gnomes

In one family I was playing (no weddings in the family) I ended up with baby gnomes sleeping all over the lawn. In another family (no wedding there either) all I found were two *sniff*  gnome graves with their little markers on them.

To clarify things a little bit - a child can be read a 'bedtime story' in a twin bed (even a bunk bed) and it can be any book.

Here is a picture of Mom reading a logic book to her son while sitting on the lower bunk.  The Mom had the logic book in her inventory and the child also received a logic credit for having this read to him.

Double beds work, too. I just haven't successfully read to them on the top bunk.

I wonder what would happen if the only bed was a loft bed?

Good question. But I've heard many times that children on loft beds can't be readen a story.
The game isn't simply designed that way.

I've noticed you can read toddlers to sleep too! When they're tired the option comes up for the adult to read them to sleep, so they go get a book, put the toddler in the crib, and squat next to it reading the book while the toddler goes to sleep. It's very cute :)
If the toddler is too tired when they do this they will stand up in the crib screaming their heads off a few times before going to sleep. If you want your child to sleep in a particular bed have them change clothes and the "relax" on the bed you want them in and then you can send the adult there offering to read them to sleep.
