Strangely delayed actions-- not lagging, just delayed. (?)
« on: December 07, 2011, 10:48:52 AM »
So, I've noticed on more than one occasion when I send my sim to do something... it just seems to take him/her forever. This seems to happen more often in Bridgeport than anywhere else (I have since gotten Generations, the Town Life Stuff Pack, and Pets), but I'll select an action, my sim will stand there and look around aimlessly for a bit, and then take their sweet time doing that action. This happens when the game is at normal, 2x, and 3x speed so it's not like I'm just speeding through everything and it's causing issues. The rest of the game continues at normal speed. For example, I had my sim playing computer games before work to boost the fun need and I x-ed out of the action about 15 game-minutes before the car for work was due to arrive since it always seems to take them a while to get downstairs in the apartment building. It took him a whole game hour to get downstairs and then was late for his first day of work (Which, annoyingly, popped up as a memory). Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any fix, or is it just something I'm gonna have to live with?  :-\

I occasionally get a lagging. For instance, when my sim is talking to someone and up pops "shared traits" it takes them forever to get excited about the "shared traits". They just stand there staring at each other. A sim could starve to death during that time. I just ignore it.
As for apartments in Bridgeport, sometimes I just teleport them to the lobby rather than wait for the elevator.

Is it happening when your sim is having to change clothes? For some reason in my game if something comes up for the sims to change clothes (work, graduation, eating the bistro...) they take forever to change. I haven't found a fix for it, but sometimes I change their clothes ahead of time so they are ready.

Bridgeport has been notoriously bad for lag.  This is due to excessive cars spawned in the city from the big bridge.  If you don't use a mod to remove the excess cars, then the only way to 'reset' the lag would be to copy your sim household to the library, start a new Bridgeport and move them in.  It takes a while for the excess cars to build up to where they start lagging the game.  I tend to avoid Bridgeport now. :(  I don't know if this is what's causing your lag or delay, but I know it did in mine.

I love Bridgeport, so I put up with the little lags. I get around it by teleporting my sims and not doing too many interactions when there are a lot of sims on the same lot. You learn to work with it. Since I live inn a big city, I KNOW there are quirks and advantages!

Could you use the "Delete Object" cheat (with testingcheatsenabled true) to go around Bridgeport removing taxis? Maybe this would help rid the town of lag for a while?

I have the same issue - but only when they are changing clothes.  I've had them stand there for two sim hours before they actually changed - glad to know I'm not the only one.

I have this problem, I always assumed it was because my game or computer needed a clean up. There are good instructions for both on the technical help thread.

http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/board,12.0.html

It would seem my Sim is standing there tapping his foot, thinking about whether he/she is going to complete to task. I think a good clean-up will at the very least take that possibility out of the equation.

Kindest Regards

They just seem to respawn.

If your sim take long to spin into the maternity clothes, don't reset her! She won't get the moodlet and don't have the option to announce it. She will get pregnant but kind of without knowing it. I did it once, never again!

I had this so many times, I even caught myself jelling at my Sims to move already LOL. Game does not appear to be frozen, it is not pausing due the lag - time is ticking smothly, just like it takes a long time for our stubborn Sims to obbey. I even think it could have something to do with traits and moods of the Sim (or I'm giving them too much credits and it is in fact a problem in game itself).

Something that realy help when the sims take forever to do something is to pause the game. I don't know why it help lol but it sure do.

I have this happen all the time and it's quite annoying but it isn't a lag as some have suggested because the time continues to tick on as if nothing is wrong but my sim will just stand there for a good 30 minutes in game time before he will actually do what I want! But unfortunately I don't have a fix.

I do not think this is trait related, it could be but I think I have a theory.

I played one of my sims last night and before he went to work I set up his action, eat, shower, pee, woohoo with wifey. Then I put the game on speed 3 and waited, Then just as there was about 15 game minutes before he was due to go to work I realised that he would not have enough time to woohoo, so I cancelled that action in the queue right before they began. He stood there tapping his foot until he was late for work. I think this foot tapping lag has something to do with the game mechanics, it seems that when a task is cancelled sometimes it is stuck in the background as an action and the sim can't do enough else until enough time had passed.

If I find the patience then I will play test this, by playing without cancelling tasks that has been started and see if those sims will stop their foot tapping at me.

I'm very sorry for going necro, but I've been having the exact same problem for a few months, and instead of starting a whole new topic, I decided it was better to reply to one that has a similar issue.
For example, when I send my Sims to bed (this is when this issue occurs the most) they walk up to the side of their bed and just stand there waiting for up to 3-4 hours. Their energy depletes into orange and sometimes red, meaning I have to cheat to raise it up high enough to make sure they wake up on time in the morning. They eventually get into bed, but it's about 1am. This sometimes happens when the carpool arrives; the Sim just stands there, causing them to be late to work.
Is there anyway to prevent this issue?
I apologise if I made the wrong decision to resurrect this thread, but I thought this was the right decision to make.
